Need a new TV series to watch...

Archive: 43 posts

I've ran out of tv! I currently watch/watched:

Fringe, Dexter, 24, Breaking Bad, Criminal Minds, Flash Forward and Doctor Who.

and all of them have finished except Doctor Who which finishes next week!

My 'get in to bed - watch a programme - sleep' routine is in serious trouble.

So that's where you come in...! (Other forms of entertainment aren't up for discussion so don't be making me any offers Comphy)

Anyone got any good shows? I'd prefer ones that I could get into and not have like 12 seasons to catch up on. (Usually by that stage they've done everything they can and are just dragging it out for the money anyway!)

Something clever and well written! (no one suggest Heroes or Lost!)

BattleStar Galatica! D:

It's got like 4 seasons... 6 box sets... 80+ episodes... It'd last you a while unless you get addicted.

And trust me, it just transcends TV. I unno if you mean a LIVE show, but you just need to see it. Everyone does. So yeah. don't be fooled by the name, it just is the most, well, human show out there. And the mere thought of the ending makes me burst into tears. D:

You must see it! ... So yeah, give it a shot?

Exactly, so do not assume from the name it sucks.

Because it is the single best story out there.

I wish I could erase my memory and watch it over again.

To be honest, most of the good shows are off the air. Some good ones like Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air are still syndicated, but there are good ones on air, like NCIS. Some good ones which recently went off air are Lost, BS G as Rock mentioned, Monk, among others, which you can get on DVD and easily enjoy. The shows I mentioned have a lot of seasons, like around 5-8.2010-06-20 04:58:00

I wish I could help you, but if I tried, you'd get only Johnny Test. The rest you probably wouldn't watch at your age (e.g. Codename: Kids Next Door(which, though the series is finished, is still running on Cartoon Network))2010-06-20 06:38:00

I watched season one (the urban setting) of "The Wire" on TV and I loved it. It was on @ midnight every week, and I couldn't stop watching it even though I needed to get up @ 4:30 am the next morning.
Would have been even better without all the ads.
I didn't really like season 2 dock storyline though.

Also "Flight of the Conchords" is really funny. Both seasons.
Plus if you can find it (it's a NZ show): "Leigh Harts Mysterious Planet". The host/writer has a unique sense of humor, and he plays a host of a NZ doco team uncovering mysteries about things like Bigfoot and Roswell, very funny. Part one of bigfoot ep. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgFk3pUiXDI)

EDIT: And "Samurai Jack" is my favourite cartoon of all time. It has a film like pace unlike most hyperactive cartoons. Many people missed it.

Looking at the shows you noted in your OP, it's a safe bet you'll like it.

Watching sporadic episodes of House has entertained me greatly so far this summer.

Also, I approve of Fringe.

LOST is (mostly) fantastic, watch the pilot episode and if you don't like it, well... I guess everyone has their own tastes but yours are wrong.

Too bad it's the summer... the greatest show on TV right now is Wipeout.

Have you seen Prison Break yet? The first season is awesome and should get you addicted enough to watch the other 3 seasons. Its not on TV anymore, but you can easily download or get the boxsets. I've seen the full serie about 3 times now and I still love it 2010-06-21 21:15:00

This almost makes watching it a scary thought, will we be desperate to rewatch with wiped memories?! Even willing to Kill?

They had that weird pill that wiped bad memories from rats, maybe in the future they can target your BSG memories and let you have your wish. Although this notion is totally strange to me..

I don't watch TV...

Oh, if you're willing - on Cartoon Network, check out Adventure Time. Each is episode is just 12 minutes or so so it's not a huge time investment. I love it.2010-06-22 02:49:00

Are you into or willing to give anime a try?
Really good for all ages (some )
Do you like action/ gore/ comedy/ mystery/ other genres?
Does it have to be in english or can you understand other languages like spanish or french?
Would you mind if the series was subtitled in english fomr any other language?
Do you prefer live action/ animated/ both/ or just don't care as long as its good?

I got a great list of really good series, but i'm asking that for the sake of not makeing a gigant list, and find something more to your taste.

Of course if you don't really care and would like to try something different, that can be arranged too.

Scrubs.
It has 9 seasons so far (9th is kinda a new story all together, but 8 seasons is still a lot of episodes.)
Now, I know it is not on the same sort of cliffhanger level as 24 or Flashforward but it is entertaining and each episode (1 two parter) has it's own moral/message. I think it is great!
Seasons 1 to 8 will last you for a while until you find something you'd prefer to watch.

Okay, time to reply

The type of stuff I'm after is kinda like the stuff I posted in the OP, like that kind of drama, 45 minute episode type thing.

I watch loads of sitcoms and stuff already and don't really class them as the same. They're just things to keep you amused for half an hour rather than something that I will watch intently and be dying to see the next episode when it's over

I'm getting The Wire at the minute, and think Battle Star Whatsitsface will be next (if only to shut Rock up ) but I'm still open to more suggestions. As you can see, I was watching quite a lot of shows at once, so there's definitely room for more

Dexter and Breading Bad are probably my top two at the minute. While Dexter is probably my favourite, there's no doubt that Breaking Bad is better. That is without doubt the best TV show on at the moment (well, it's just finished). The story is absolutely fantastic, so well written and the characters are actually believable and real. The subtle black comedy is also brilliant.

Sorry to bump but I can recommend a documentary (if you like those kind of things).

It's called 'Bear Grylls: Born Survivor'. It's not a TV series but hey, it's more entertaining then one.

Smallville!!! Or Stargate!!

They are both awesome. Smallville is superman and Stargate is sci-fi which is the best, I loved it!
Or, I'm not sure if you would have heard of 'Merlin'. I've never seen it, but I've seen the ads for it on Tv and everyone one of my friends that watches it, thinks it's incredible.

Don't know if it's mentioned (don't have time to read through previous suggestions);

But my favourite series in recent years would be The Walking Dead;

You like Smallville? I would never have guessed!

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia is one of my favourite sitcoms in recent years. It's into its sixth season but I don't think that matters so much.

Edit: Bit of a big bump there...
