Elevator Help

Archive: 8 posts

Hello. I made an elevator but I can't get it to work right, I spent like 2 hours on the logic and I got so close but eventually it failed right at the end. Anyways, I need an elevator with two grab switches, one on each side, when you grab one side I need the doors to close and then go up and when it hits the top have them open again. Then when you go back you'd grab the other side and have the doors close, then go down then automatically open when you got back down. I got up to the end but I couldn't get the doors to open up when you got to the bottom. A drawing from paint or something would be really helpful, thanks!2010-06-18 22:49:00

right, imagine a strip of glass with a glass square on top of it with a cube, and then two flippers either side on pistons to shunt the key/square across to the other side. If you put a key switch with a radius spanning just one half of this, you can make the doors open and close, or the elevator go up and down in just one direction, until you pick another.
If you have the pistons on the "flippers" or "shunts" set to flip outwards, you can have a grab switch set to one shot connected to that...

Oh it's too complicated to explain... If no-one can explain it better, then add me and I'll come show you personally, okay? ^^
I should be online either tomorrow or sunday, but i'm rather busy!

Sorry but that's not what I'm looking for, My elevators doors are on the thin layer and they slide over, not out. Plus, everything is already built, I just need to apply the logic.2010-06-18 23:28:00

Have you tried the LBPC Logic Pack? They are a series of levels on LBP and each level has their own guide here on the site itself.2010-06-18 23:30:00

Yes I did, I'm looking to make it with 2 Grab switches though, not a motion sensor2010-06-18 23:40:00

Yeah I thought you meant those kinds of doors, But you just need to apply that onto your doors instead...

Also, JspOt is right, there is a level in the Logic Pack that shows you how to make a complicated elevator logic. Of course, if you don't have many floors, you can just remove some of the logic to make it less simple

Actually, the elevator in the logic pack is with just One grab switch as the main input. You grab it, it goes up, you grab again at the top, and it goes back down. If you were to study the logic a little more, it might not be too difficult to incorporate a second grab switch.

I'd say that's your best bet for two reasons. One, you don't have to reinvent the wheel, and two, you get the benefits of all the built in fail safes.

I have something very similar in my copyable level "Elevator Example for ziggurcat". The only difference is it uses a single grab switch to toggle between the two floors, rather than using a different one for each floor.

I also have another (unpublished) level which is kinda the same thing, except it additionally has a grab switch at the top and the bottom to 'call' the elevator to that floor.
