Nintendo 3DS

Archive: 39 posts

Didn't see a topic for this, then again i was never good at searching for things, lol. So hopefully i didn't make a dupe :x

Anyway, most of you already know of this, but at E3, the Nintendo 3DS was officially announced! With a pretty good line-up of games, including two Nintendo 64 remakes! So, what are your opinions on the Nintendo 3DS?

http://e3.nintendo.com/3ds/

There are a few rumors i've heard, unsure if they're confirmed or still unconfirmed of including possible achievements, friends lists, voice chat, and game installs.

^Agreed. Nintendo is just mass-producing handhelds, remakes and sequels lately. Bring on the original stuff!

The 3DS, hrmm... I find it different. Not exactly good, but not horrible either.

well, expect it to be a 2D traditional layton, but with added "depth", like layers. It might end up being only the dialogue and menus and such that are 3d. Perhaps some 3d puzzles? That'd be interesting.

I think the 3ds (and lbp2 naturally) were the big winners at E3. I can't wait to get my hands on a 3DS and try the thing out - from reports it sounds astounding. the potential for innovative new gameplay is pretty big here too, and that's reason enough to sign up. I'm not a big fan of the remakes either. I'd much prefer new stuff here... but the 3d camera is a really cool feature! What more can be said? Must try it out, until then, I'll have to take people's word for it and wait for reports of what kind of cool games are going to be developed specifically for it.

Sonys PS2 HD series collection ports.
Xbox classics on XBLA
Segas constant ports of mega drive classics and the recent announcement of dreamcast ports.

And many more. Everyone raids their back catalogue for easy money.

The ps3 and xbox actually have new fresh games coming out though. Nintendo, not so much.

So? Nintendo usually brings fresh mechanics with every new first party title they produce. They make fresh games all the time. Look at Kirby's Epic Yarn; despite using a familiar character, the game itself is very unique and innovative.

And most of the new titles coming for Xbox and PS3 are..... sequels. Just sayin. Halo Reach, Fable 3, Gears of War 3, LBP2, Twisted Metal, GT5...

I spent a good 45 minutes with the 3DS in the Nintendo Media Room at E3 a couple of days ago. Here are some impressions I posted @ neogaf.

- The depth it displayed was really nice and enhanced the experience a lot, especially with Nintendogs. You really have to look at the screen dead-on in order to keep the depth visuals in sync or it will double up really quick. It was pretty much the only issue I had with it.

- Played an altered reality tech demo where you point the 3DS outside cameras on a card with a question mark. Once everything is calibrated (which took a few seconds), the visuals it displayed were very very awesome. The area around the box morphed as it expanded and contracted while targets were placed on the new contours recently made. You move yourself around the area (literally moving myself around the stool where the card was placed) looking for the targets and shooting them with arrows. The 3D depth again made the experience a lot better as it helped me navigate around the created contours and it really felt like there was an actual video game lump just showing up on the stool. It even created a hole in the area where the card was where I had to move the 3DS over to find the last target. It then generated a dragon (up to its neck) out of the hole where I had to position myself to shoot it in the mouth. Once done, the dragon came to life and you had to shoot its neck parts several times before you could attack its head. The dragon would lunge at your screen and I literally jumped several times to get out of its way while attempting to position myself around the stool to shoot its neck. Very very cool.

- Played a game where the 3DS recognizes faces in front of it and puts them on balloons you get to shoot at. Freaking awesome.

- Checked out the Snake Eater demo which was basically a real time cutscene where you have limited control of the camera. #1 - graphically it looks better than the PS2 version #2 - Kojima and pals did an awesome job showcasing the 3D capabilities. The fight scene with The Boss with all the petals flying around looked gorgeous.

- Checked out Resident Evil Revelations. I would assume it was all prerendered cutscenes, but the 3D effect was impressive. It allowed you to pause the action and zoom in on the scenes up close with limited camera movement. Looks great.

- Mario Kart 3DS looked like a little step down from Mario Kart GC graphically, but again the depth created by the 3D made the game pop out tremendously.

- Watched a trailer of How to Train Your Dragon. I'd argue the 3D effect looks much better on the 3DS screen versus in the movies and on a 3DTV. It felt more natural, plus you have the luxury of not using glasses that impair the colors.

- Buttons felt really solid and less plasticky than a DS Lite or DSi. Same goes for the d-pad. The enlarged analog nub feels wonderful in comparison to the PSP one.

There were a couple other things, but I got lost in the fun of just looking at the 3DS screen. Nintendo really has another money printer on their hands with this one.

I definitely need it. Is that a Kingdom Hearts 1 remake? Since when can Riku run around in Traverse town?

And is the Sims 3 gonna be another terrible handheld version, or will it be closer to the real game?

Can you buy pants on the new Animal Crossing?

Ocarina of Time 3D. 'Nuff said.

Paper Mario is always good.

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory? Again? How many different versions of the game are there?

And the Nintendogs look fuzzy.

Hm... I'm kinda interested in this... How much would you expect it to cost? :kz:

... Though I don't want another PSP lying around. D:

But anyway. So the 3D of the DS... it doesn't pop out at you? that's what I've gotten, and I'm kinda confused as to how it's still 3D... someone... enlighten me? D:

The graphics were disappointing to me, not that they matter that much but PSP games look better imo and that thing has been out for years. The 3d idea isn't enough to make me buy something.2010-06-21 14:32:00

It's more the type of 3D that goes -into- the screen, instead of coming out.
Like looking through a window.

You obviously haven't seen it up close. Aside from some of the technical marvels on the PSP like GoW or maybe Crisis Core, the stuff I viewed and played on the 3DS were noticeably better than what the PSP can output.

Screenshots and offscreen stuff does not do the machine justice at all.

I shall take your world for it, without a doubt my DS got way more play time than the PSP, I found the games a lot more fun and tailored better to hand held, if they continue that trend with the 3DS then there ought to be some gems. The memory capacity seems greatly improved over DS cartridges so I expect to see a lot done with that. Admittedly I am still not sold on it but it is looking more attractive. Like you say you have to see it to believe it kind of thing which I haven't so I am at a loss.2010-06-22 02:46:00

It looks like it! ANd also, check out the outside items! Maybe they'll have that feature in the game? :O (ALthough, seeing as they're grounded in cement gives me a sense of doubt :L) But this game looks pretty promising!

For people who can understand this stuff...

http://kotaku.com/5644430/report-nintendo-3ds-hardware-specs-revealed

So technically it's looking like a Gamecube. Which is to be expected because, well, it needs double the processing power to produce 3D. Or something. Anyone care to elaborate?

Also, announcement info thing on the 29th. Release date, pricing, features and new games. o noez.

Well the double the processing is because for 3D they need to have 2 sets of images running, one for each eye. So basically they have to run the game twice over to get the 3D effect, hence doubling the processing power. For 2D it will obviously not need to display the 2 images at once.

That's how other 3D works, and I'd imagine it's a similar case with the 3DS.

I hope this doesn't come out this year... there is no way I can afford it!! D:

November is already shaping up to be a horrible month... CoD (though not a must... just want), GT5 (collectors edition plz) and LBP2 (collectors again plz), I need to start saving!

no no no you are wrong.

PEOPLE WANTED THEM.
STARFOX, Legend of zelda OCARINA of TIME,
nintendo still has their ideas.
look at pikmin.
that was completely different.

thats true. but twisted metal is different.
i have nothing against ps3 or xbox but yea they all are sequels.
so nintendo is doing nothing wrong. They are answering fanservice.

Dunno weather you guys have seen this trailer, but you need to check it out RIGHT NOW. You don't even half to watch the whole thing, just the first ten seconds, and then read the rest of this post.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7detDcmMKY

Now I'll bet you would never guess that this game is a 3ds exclusive. This entire trailer is taken directly from the game itself, and believe it or not, those graphics are not from the wii but are in fact from the 3ds! These are the kind of graphics you can expect from the 3ds, except imagine them in 3d, which would make them 23 times better...

Ok they really aren't PS3 worthy, they're very impressive for a handheld and look great when compared to a current generation game resized down to their resolution if you took a 3DS game and had it running at the resolution of a current generation console it would compare rather poorly to something designed for the consoles resolution.

I wouldn't say they're worthy of a PS3, but certainly the best handheld graphics ever. It also seems to me these graphics are better than the N64's...

I'd probably buy it if it had good online functinalitys, was under 200$ and had games that I liked.

But nooo. Nintendo messed up the new Kirby game as far as I'm concerned aswell.

They can stuff it IMO. I've bought too much semi-recent stuff from nintendo that looked promising, but was fail IMO.

The wii just doesnt have any games I really liked, and I suspect the 3ds will be similar.

1. Nintendo admitted there online atm sucks, and are trying to make it 1000% better on the 3ds

2. its not just nintendo games... SSFIV, MGS3,RE... much more developers are taking advantage of it, so don't say it will only be nintendo games.

3.if you where just gonna persuade us not to get it, please don't post
