Sticker-ing and Material Changing Craft Earth

Archive: 37 posts

Has anybody seen the video for Community Game Jam 2010? In that video (at around 28seconds)it shows a craft earth with a bunch of sloppy sticker-ing and random decorations on it.

Here's a screenshot:
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4009/4707729284_77188707c2_b.jpg

I also caught this in the trailer:

Sticker-ed and material changed:
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4008/4707687239_8bc7b4696d_b.jpg

Normal:

You'll notice on the red one it looks all shiny and metallic and the normal one looks wavy. I can't wait to see what type of levels the community will make.

Mm hasn't officially said it yet, but evidence points to this! what else could it be?

EDIT: Thanks to outlaw jack for reminding me! I forgot to mention you can also change the background.

Personally, I like anpostteller's title for his.

That's pretty cool. Plus, I think that you can change the background as well (anyone notice Big Ben in the 2nd picture?... or am I just stupid realizing this?).

Yes, you can do all of that stuff to your craft earth. =)

And all those names are from the levels they made in the community jam.

They do, but you also have the ability to change yours up as well.

Oh has anyone mentioned that you can have different icons for you levels. So If its purely a cutscene level the level badge will look like a clapperboard.2010-06-17 17:06:00

Oh really? They have different shapes? Nice! What are some of the others? I take it regardless of these new icon shapes, you still can customize them with pics? Very nice!

It's funny how the most hearted level there is asking for hearts!

Hang on, what's this? There's no star rating, you only tag it with 'good' or 'bad' by the looks of it...

Probably for the better! Before a lot of players just went for 5 stars if they liked it, 1 star if they didn't. It's just like on youtube and so they made it so you either "like" or "dislike" videos now. I prefer the new method of rating stoof.

The like/dislike method will hopefully be better.

I for one would like to hear more about these alternative level icon borders.
But my main question:
Do you think that it will be 20 publish slots again?

I like the "like / dislike" method and that we supposedly have a REAL tag system now (even if they didn't show it yet).

HOWEVER, I sadly don't see any categorization yet for the levels and this is just lame. And since now the game is even more open, it's really a bad idea to not have a genre field in the level info. I really hope their is.

I can bet we don't have a difficulty field either and they probably think (wrongly) that their website LBP.me is gonna save everything and all problems they had with LBP.

This has been confirmed to be in the game.

And with LBP.me, c'mon. This is Mm! They know what they're doing.

I hope for publish spots that
A: you get more for being PS+ (Im signing up to PS+ day one) and I hope they do some better stuff using PS+ instead of just not doing it,
B: you get an option to purchase 10/20 more for $5.00 or a (reasonable) price.
C: if you get alot of love form the community people can "donate" publish spots to you.
D: you get 50 by default

Hmm... I find this idea to be... INTERESTING... Giving a creator one of your publish spots would be very cool, but I can think of very many problems >.>

Maybe they'll do what Modnation Racers is doing:
If you create mods that people download, you get extra slots.

LBP version?
Get a level with certain requirements, you get extra slots.

ok I'll try answer a few questions.

Yeah I think they will be doing away with the stars and at the end you just click "Yay" or "Nay" I think this is a fairer way as one person can't just bring a great level down to average by one starring it.

As for the level badges, All I saw was the regular one and the clapperboard one. I think they might have a "MM approved" one if it gets promoted by MM (like the normal one but with a pink florette). I'm guessing, that if you make a game with several levels you will be able to group them with that polaroid type icon that they use to group their own levels, this is jjust speculation though. I think there going to have a section you can go to ingame where its all MM approved levels. Like their twitter list but ingame.

Im not 100% on this now as there was a lot of info to take in in a short amount of time so don't hate me if these things don't become a reality. Also, their are a lot of things undecided so lots of things can change before the game comes out.

EDIT: Oh and as for the extra slots, I specifically asked them about this and they said they still don't know what their going to do about this. Their trying to find a balance between allowing people to publish levels and trying to stop people abusing this and spamming levels.

Level tags are no longer opinionated, and only descriptive. Gone are the 'Great', 'Rubbish', 'Bad' tags, to be replaced with only descriptions of the type of level it is. There are different tiers to the tag system as well, and you no longer have to cycle through to find the one you want.

When you publish a level, you can tag it as Single Player, Hard, and Shooter, for example. If someone disagrees with you, they can tag it with 1-4ish other tags and provide a mini-review. If others agree with the review, they can give a 'Yay' vote, which will provide that rating with a higher weight. If enough people disagree with the publishers tags, then they can be overturned.

I'm loving the concept!

I'm worried about overturning tags. People could ruin the categoration D:2010-06-18 13:37:00

Well then let's hope that breaking this system would require a larger group of organized people, than would actually bother to try. I'm sure something like that would only really be a problem for the high-traffic levels. I just hope that the person that owns the level has a bit more control over the info pages of their level, this time around.2010-06-19 21:11:00

I hope that when people look at your levels page, they can see your Craft-Earth. You'd be able to coordinate stickers and decorations with your level placement.2010-06-19 21:53:00

Very, very bad idea.

Commercializing this aspect of the game would tip the laying field in favor of those who have money. So that spoiled rich kid can wield more power than the more humble but better skilled creator.

Interesting but tags aren't proper classfication. And if they still can be overturned, it messes the classification even more. We should have tags that are put there by the creator and then it stays that way.

Also, do they force the player to "yay or nay"? This is another mistake they shouldn't repeat imo.

Oh and tks for the detailed info man

By the looks of it, "Yay-Naying" doesn't look forced. If you look, there are less yay-nays than there are players, which probably means you can skip it.

Now that got my hopes up! I really hope that this time the system does not end up broken. Howeve, I'm still worried about the categorization of lvls; I'm also afraid of people overturning tags. Sure, it can be a good thing if a shooter is tagged as a platform so the community can change its tag; but we all know how the community is, and it kind of feels like the more power you give them, the more trouble they produce.

funny, people at the jam should have added h4h at the end of the title for every level, would have been pretty funny.

That yay-naying stuff sounds awesome! Though it should be mandatory the first time around atleast.
About the Jam, who whas that named their level "WITH REAL WATERZ" at the end? That was awesome!

Maybe the reason as to why those levels have more play than "yay/nays" Is becauset the people replayed the level instead of just playing once and voting?

This could be a possibility and therefore lead to the fact that replays still count in the play count.

Here's hoping that this is not the case

Yup, apparently each creator will now have their own personally designed Craft Earth which you can visit when viewing their levels. Cool, huh?
