[MACHINIMA] The Adventures of Trey and Kirk

Archive: 9 posts

I've decided to create a sort of 'show'. Basically, a 15+ minute long machinima.

Story
Trey Triangleman's friend, Kirk, is playing around with a hypnosis kit, and accidentally hypnotizes himself to make sandwiches. Trey finds his friend in a daze, and takes him to see a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist analyzes Kirk and decides that his condition is only temporary, and that it'll go away after a good night's rest. Trey takes Kirk back home, and puts him in bed, then goes home himself. Meanwhile, Kirk goes on a rampage through the city, terrorizing supermarkets and cows trying to gather the materials to create...SUPERWICH (a super-powered sandwich that will show up in later machinimas). Trey goes to Kirk's house the next day and finds him lying on the ground. Kirk says that Superwich has escaped, and they dedicate the rest of their episode to defeat Superwich.

Any suggestions for the story?

Is there any more epicness you could add to this?

I cannot wait to see this.

Woah a Machinima!? In LBP PSP? That's awesome. The story is already great, I'd just say go for it.2010-06-17 03:15:00

Oh, one more thing! How fast do y'all read? Like, how long would it take you to read a speech bubble pumped to its max with words?2010-06-17 04:25:00

Oh, I don't know... Maybe 15 seconds? 20? Never timed myself.

One very, very nice thing about LBP PSP that people don't often talk about is that there is apparently NO maximum character limit to a speech bubble. I have seen speech bubbles up to 7 or so lines long, so maybe 3 times what the PS3 allows you.

Really? Awesome! That'll make this a lot easier ^_^

But be careful, the more text is in your level the higher is the possibility of missing words at the end of the texts. I had this problem in "trapped transition"2010-06-17 06:41:00

But be careful, the more text is in your level the higher is the possibility of missing words at the end of the texts. I had this problem in "trapped transition"Ah yes, that's true. Truncated speech bubbles do tend to happen, and it may be a result of extensive use of speech bubbles. Nobody knows for sure what causes it but it does happen.

So, basically you'll write a speech bubble that says, for example, "Oreos are the best cookies ever!" It will look fine in create mode and also when you play the level, but when you publish the level sometimes the last bit of some speech bubbles may get cut off and look like: "Oreos are the best cookies e". You can check this by downloading your published level and playing the downloaded version.

If you're doing machinima, you may not be doing any publishing at all and so won't have to worry about this. If you do run into this problem, however, here is how you solve it. The truncating that you see is always limited to a specific number of characters, say 5. No matter what you do, the last 5 characters of an affected speech bubble (not all speech bubbles will be affected) will get cut off. To counteract this, just add extra characters to the end of your speech. You can use dashes or periods or anything you like. So, using our example above we can see that the last 4 characters of the text are being cut off. So, edit your speech bubble and add 4 extra characters like so: "Oreos are the best cookies ever!----" When you republish the level, the speech should now appear as it was originally intended, although sometimes the spacing is a little weird: "Oreos are the best cookies ever !"

Cool, I'll be sure to do that!
