Nazi themed Contents

Archive: 14 posts

Hello there LBPC

I There's something i have to get rid off.
Please don't get me wrong now.
I'm not offending anyone.
I checked out the Community Levels bout 10 Minutes ago
and there's quite a Number of "Nazi Zombie"-Stuff published.

Besides LBP i play Games like Modern Warfare 2 or other Multiplayer-Games.
As soon as People find out i'm from Germany, they start calling me Nazi or keep saying things like "sieg heil" and alot more Nonsense.

So do i feel offended? Yes i do!
It's not my fault, nor the fault of my generation this Cruel Part of History happened back there!
You know...to be honest, sometimes it is kind of a burden being from Germany.

Please think twice before creating Levels with such Contents.
LBP is a Game played by many Children.
Such Contents should not be published there.

We ALL have to take Responsibility for what we're writing, saying and creating.

I hope you undestand how i feel bout this.
Thank you

I understand your reason for posting. I avoid being titled anything stupid by avoiding to play CoD and co nor checking into XboxLive. :-D I have never received anything like this in LBP or here. "Nazi-zombie" stuff doesn't relate to us (modern?) germans in any way. Killing nazi zombies is cult since wolfenstein I thought?2010-06-16 16:40:00

And one more thing to add - Even back then, not all Germans were Nazis! Some despised them!
I agree, these really shouldn't be in LBP....

I think there are too many survival levels too... :/

Nazis shouldn't come back in anyway, not even as a zombie.2010-06-16 16:51:00

Even back then, not all Germans were ...
True. Anyway, there are only a handful of people who could be described as nazis today. Every one who is younger than 60/70 and yet believes in such thought patterns was clearly born after and thus must be named differently, like neo... or something. As far as I'm concerned with LBP: Nazi Zombies are bad, killing them is good (but not always fun ;-))

I have loads of German friends on PSN. They help me practise my German. It's a shame you've only come across people like that who insult you because of your nationality.

The problem is many things are insulting to all kinds of people. Some people may find Soviet-themed levels offensive because of the gulags, others may find American levels offensive due to the slave trade, Japanese levels for their massacres in China, British and Roman levels for their connection to imperialism.

If you hold any kind of faith, whether you're a Buddhist, Jew, Christian, Shintoist, Muslim, Taoist or whatever else, and you include elements of your beliefs in a level you will offend somebody.

What are we to do?

Here in America, one of the most widely debated laws is "Freedom of Speech". This would fall into that category.

Now, don't get me wrong; the Nazi regime wasn't that well looked upon. Why, with the millions of Jews murdered under Hitler's orders, the totalitarian pathology and direction and cult-like society, it's pretty obvious why swastikas and tiny mustaches are frowned upon these days. And ever since the fall of Nazi power, Germany is still shunned for being associated with Hitler and are, to an extent, stereotyped with the misdemeanor. Not to mention that prominent "white powers" such as Ku Klux and Skinhead have grown to be a significant threat in society today.

... But hasn't Al-Qaeda grown in the same way? And L.A. gangs? And North Korea?... you sure see your share of terrorists, gangsters, strippers and dictators around LBP now these days (part of it's probably my fault... ALLAH!). And yet... we don't see any significant force appealing for a complete wipeout of such levels.

Which brings us back to "Freedom of Speech". Why is that brought back up, again?... well, aren't videogames "Freedom of Speech"? We sure see terrorists, gangsters, strippers and dictators in those (all of which Rockstar does so well *applauds*) and there sure seems to be no major movement to abolish those games anytime soon. No matter where you go, what you do, or what you say, someone, or something, may, or will, insult, offend, disgust or even anger you... that's just life. Things like that happen, and there's nothing we can do about it. Hence why there really is no barrier on what you may "express" in your life (besides starting white clubs... that's racist -_-). It's just society; there's your high points, and your low.

Besides, in all honesty... I find Nazi stuff pretty cool...

You've got every right to be offended and the truth is that having Nazi villains in works of fiction hasn't really lost much steam at all since WWII (the latest Wolfenstein game was released less then a year ago and Captain America's archenemy is still the Red Skull). Whether this is a good or bad thing is debatable (let's face it, some Nazis were incredibly monstrous and thus make effective villains) though that doesn't really justify people calling you one based on your nationality alone. Actually, due to the high probability that the people who call you a Nazi are Americans (our educational system is generally lacking in the fields of history and politics I'm afraid...) it's more statistically probable that they would have ties to Neo-Nazi movements, though still very small.

There's also the theory that online multiplayer modes in games, with the sense of freedom internet anonymity they bring combined with the competitive atmosphere, are simply breeding grounds for complete douchebags. Probably the reason I tend to shy away from online multiplayer myself.

Spoken like a true American.
Anyway, I've delt with this stuff too before- I've seen cars with stickers on the back saying "What Mormons Don't Tell You.com" (Which deeply offends me) and I feel pained unable to do anything.

At first i have to thank all of you for the resonance.
Outlaw-Jack, i totally agree with what you say about "Freedom of Speech".
And of course i didn't mean it happens everytime i play online.
I've met some cool People from the uk, us, egypt, spain...well
everywhere.
Many of them are part of my buddylist now.

I think it's sad, there are people agitating each other just because of their origin.
I've met enough germans who aren't better than the guys i've been talkin about in my first posting.

At least most of the Players around the World take it like what it is.
A Chance to share good times with someone sitting at the far end of the World.

Wait... Do we have strippers in LBP? I thought this was a children's game, was it not?
There are things like Nazi zombies and etc. But I keep neutral to that. Yes, you might find it offensive. But the author has made it in a good way. you're getting rid of things that never should be. That's how I see it. When it comes to origin, I don't care. If you're a nice guy, then you're a nice guy.
When it comes to war levels, they are certainly made for a little older audience than the game is supposed to be for. I don't care too much. The term of "age rating" is something that does not affect me, only that I have to make my dad or mom buy a game if I am too young. You could say my mind is torn up enough so much it does not affect my mental health. It only adds on my imagination. But having 7 year olds play things like that is not the best idea. They get way more affected than anyone else.

It's quite simple, DeKay; you feel insulted because people associate you with Nazis simply because of your nationality. Well, if you're not associated with Nazis, why are insulted when people post levels with them in it? They have nothing to do with you, you have nothing to do with them Just sit back and enjoy history spitting on the face of history's most infamous regime.2010-06-17 18:50:00
