I don't think they'll be letting people play in full create mode on the show floor. judging by what the guys said from the game jam, it was quite buggy and prone to freezing. not what you want people on the floor talking about.

i'm very interested to see some cutscenes in action. Hah, taking requests, donkey? I require cutscenes! And lobster tail.

I'll see what I can do with the cutscenes. And I'll be able to get a closer look at the game aside from what is shown on the show floor assuming the stars align the way they should, lol.

Awesome, awesome! Thanks gev. Forgot to mention before, some shots or clips of circuit boards and microchips, the more complex the better, would be oh-so-grand. Most of us still have very little idea what these are really going to look like all spread out. Your vids are at the moment my most-anticipated upcoming E3 reveal. Because, frankly, I've seen pretty much everything else I care about.

Are the cogs seen throughout a decoration or object? They appear to pass through things. Would be a nice feature to be able to disable collisions on certain objects.2010-06-16 20:39:00

Good point. The vids I took with Spaff (thanks to my wife recording, lol) do help with the visualization of it all. Needless to say, you and the other guys made an awesome level (I think it was the Cow herding one... right?). You get blitzed by enemies so quick, lol.

So I'm back home now working on the vids. I'll be uploading them on youtube soon.

Lol, the Controlinator. Love it. Nice video man. Really appreciate seeing some videos in create mode. It looks as though that "simple logic" section has parts designed after RTM's logic guide diagrams? xD It sure looks that way (unless rtm didn't come up with the symbols for AND/OR gates, I really don't know). The ease that seemed to come from the "Controlinator" (that'll take some time getting used to...typed DCS first) and movers combined makes for something unbelievable. Haha, thanks for the cool comments on my level. They do come thick and fast the enemies, I would have set them up in waves if I'd had a little more time to tweak it, there were so many things I wanted to add but couldn't fit in!

That sounded like some very cool music, and the camera tool looks a lot simpler to use rather than hooking about 200 LBP1 cameras to make a simple zoom in technique.

The voice acting was hilarious too.

I'm in tears dude. That was wonderful...magical, and I couldn't even hear the interview. lol Think you can write up the questions you asked and his answers? (I could turn up the sound really loud, but I doubt my sleeping family would like that). The voice overs sound great (from what I can hear), although I'm not sure if Mm is using the PSeye or any other low tech microphone (or if they're even using the in-game feature of voice over). I basically asked if we had to essentially jury rig switches to pistons in order to get the effect in this level. He said the new camera controls will allow you to control the panning of the scenes and link them without having to resort to what I mentioned. Also you can add your own voice.2010-06-17 08:25:00

How far in can you zoom in the game camera? And can you attach it to an object and have it project at different angles, such as ending up being able to make a first-person game by attaching it to the hood of a car or something?

Also, can you make DCS invisible or change its size?

I had the feeling that you can zoom in (and out) further. Don't think first person is possible with using tricks.

You can make it invisible, not sure about changing the size.

If you can, please try to get a video that toys with Sackbots, programming their speed and whatnot if possible, and jumping into them. Maybe even something playing with a Creatinator if you get the chance.

I asked because I'm brainstorming workarounds to having to have Sackboy "on" something to move around in top-down mode. If the control seat was invisible, that might help. Or if you could shrink it. OR if you could place it on a material so incredibly small that it wouldn't look like Sackboy was on anything at all.

Just a heads up... that wasn't level designer Johnee doing the voice-overs. It was another Johnee... or someone not even named Johnee. When we went on the tour of the office, we met the guy who did the voice overs, and it wasn't Johnee. That said, I'm terrible with names.

Amazing! Great compliment to the recent write-up by rtm and the jam fellers. Just one thing I'm wondering. How could you not resort to violence to get Spaff to show you the star fox and RTS levels in create mode? This is your mission for tomorrow, should you choose to accept it. Spaff cries easy, so I suggest make him cry (punches work, or making fun of his eyebrows). While the waterworks are going, apologize to him and go in for a hug. He'll appreciate it. As he reaches for you, gingerly take the controller from his hands. Make sure his back is to the tv screen.

Now. Gently hold him while you play his game. Tell him it's going to be okay.
But secretly just get into those levels.

Well, I can describe the starfox-ish level at least. Sackboy is actually in the back layer on his direct control seat. Then, everything you see on the screen is actually in front of sackboy, and entirely in one layer. We went into the level and turned the camera way off to the right, and it was mind-boggling seeing all of that run in one thin layer.

@David - Your second task is to get into Wex, rtm, and I's level, which we not-so-aptly named 'Go Kart Rally (With Better Glue).' It has no Go Karts at all, and the glue only means that I fixed the level just before we ran out of time.

I've seen the starfox level in create - it's even more mindblowing seeing the entire thing from the side as the perspective breaks and you can see it's all compressed into a single thin layer!

The RTS we could have seen in create (we had access to everything in create if we wanted it - debug builds FTW). I don't think there was much point though, it would have been a mass of wires and holograph materials all over the place. Having played with the tools, it's clear how such a thing could be done, just that it would take an awesome amount of time / effort. Plus ambition to be the first one to do it (I'm ever so slightly jealous of christophe for pulling it off so well )

@comph: didn't we change the title when we stopped it from overheating?

Thank you this is awesome. Alot more informative than the actual thing showed at the e3 presentation, it's cool to finally see the create mode.
Also the direct control (seat) and microchips is just like i imagined, it must be much more cool to create complicated logic.
The camera tool is very useful and cool, i will be creating alot of cinematics in my levels.
I think the final video is amazing it really shows the new dimensions and possibilities of LBP2 compared to LBP1.

On the second video i think the level did break (?) at the end because all the vehicles were gone and the sackboy couldn't continue (also everytime they tried to load a level it said failure ).
I suppose this is still the beta (you can also see the text at the bottom of the screen like in a beta) and i hope they will release it too. I really want in the beta and play this as soon as possible but i know it probably wont happen

That would suck though because there would hardly be any PS3 exclusives this holiday...just SOCOM 4 and Grand Turismo 5 (neither of which I'm interested in).

Hope this can make it to the target release.

Alex stated in one of his interviews that it will release Q4. He said it with extreme confidence too, so I'm fairly certain they'll work double time if they have to to get the game out for us all before '11. If we have to wait until '11, that's no big deal. We're getting this amazing piece of hardware from them regardless, and if they take that extra month or so to perfect it, by all means, I'd be more happy to have a perfect game (yes, LBP2 will be perfect) rather than one that has a few bugs that drive me insane.

And I loved the helicopter level. :3 I can't wait for this game now, and the water material looks fantastic!

I sat down with Tom today and got some good create mode vids that go much deeper into Controlinator, Sackbots, and Advanced Logic. I also got a little behind the scenes with Barrel Rolling.

I smell a delay on this to 2011. It's not even done with alpha yet and it only has like 5 more months to go.

That would suck though because there would hardly be any PS3 exclusives this holiday...just SOCOM 4 and Grand Turismo 5 (neither of which I'm interested in).

Hope this can make it to the target release.

And I loved the helicopter level. :3 I can't wait for this game now, and the water material looks fantastic!

It's not so much about these 'useful' gltiches, more all the problems with the cool levels, lag and other annoyances that were the big problem when LBP1 was released. I'd much prefer they eliminate as many of thsoe problems with LBP2 rather than rush it and miss a load (but you can guarantee there'll still be one or two, there is with any game). I'm sure there'll probably be even more 'useful' glitches that people will find when it's released.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but i've been in LBP from the begining (even preordered ) don't assume that because i joined LBPC a tad late that i didn't own LBP before that.
Yes i know about all those bad glitches, but hey, you can't expect them all to be good, of course you're gonna have a couple of bad ones, but if yo know how to deal with them it's not really a problem, specially now that we can back up our data regularly, that shouldn't be a problem at all, unless of course you're one of the ones that thinks nothing will go wrong and only backs up their data every 6 months of course.

Oh but enough about this little discussion m8, don't wanna start with the wrong foot here.

Hehe, I never really thought about trying it. You'd have to ask the guys who went to the Community Jam for some insight on that since they made those levels. They all seemed geared towards single player anyway.

We thought about it, but the concept wouldn't work on a local system as shared screen wouldn't be practical, and we were only demoing on a single screen.#

Don't worry about the platforming guys, remember that the sequel is built upon the current game - everything you can do in LBP1 you can do in LBP2 and I honestly believe there will still be a strong contingent of platformers and puzzle-platformers in both the story mode and the community levels. Platforming is just to much fun

Plus grappling hook + bounce pads == win. As does grappling hook and low gravity. With maybe some bounce pads in there too :hero:

You can control from far away for that i belive, remember there's a "remote control" feature, so just hide the sackboy somewhere and control the sackbot!

yes, but if you notcie, 6 sackbots take up around the same thermo as 1.

it appears to be an initial cost of thermo then after that sackbots dont take as much.

They confirmed at E3 that they go to Alpha in like 8 days...they're not there yet.

So we're a ways away until Beta. Maybe August? September?

They said in an interview that the majority of the team has only been working completely on LBP2 for about 9 months now. Features like DCS, Sackbots, etc. have been in the making for longer than that, but not at all with the entire team.

I recorded all these vids in HD, so give it time to process. Also, as of now Sackboy glows when he has the power gloves on. Don't know if they plan on keeping that effect, but that's what I have for now.

They should make the power-ups more subtle...the huge helmet for the Creatinator and glowing for Power Gloves seems to be a bit much.

Now that the video's cleared up...yeah...I really hope they make changes to the look of them, OR they let us make gadgets invisible (something I've wanted for a long time).

Yes you could, you can have a sackbot and stick an emitter (that shoots out electricity) on him than use the direct control seat to control the sackbot and the emitter without making it look weird.

Excellent, thanks for posting all these! Awesome to see this, I'm getting a pretty good handle on it. Still going to have to play with it to see how it flows. Particularly the TIMING or editing of cutscenes. I'm imagining that instead of going straight from camera to camera, we'll go out from a camera into sequencing logic, event-event-event, pause-event-pause, and then finally out to the next cutscene camera. The camera tools looked quite robust. Zooming, depth of field, rotating, handheld shake, animation, transitions... It seems that almost anything will be possible, though my big question is going to be HOW MUCH on axis can we rotate a camera in order to look at a sackboy as he runs down the level. Obviously head-on will be impossible, judging from how far the camera rotates in the video. But won't know how it looks for sure until we get in close with it on a sackboy and see it in action. I know 90% of my shots will be way way in up close, but it seems that you can actually move the camera up on a wide angle rather than just zooming in, like it is now.

I'll check the video again once it's done processing so I can view the tweak settings in HD, but if the zoom and z-position tweaks are what I hope they are, you could do a hilarious vertigo effect by moving in while zooming out or vice versa.

Hmmm... One thing I'm interested in is playing with the "freeze player" tweak for "live acting" during cutscenes. Either as part of the level (choose your own adventure style?) or simply for recording machinima. Argh, I just can't wait to get my hands on this. This is perfect though, the details are coming in such that we can all start planning out in some detail what we're going to try with this.

I recorded all these vids in HD, so give it time to process. Also, as of now Sackboy glows when he has the power gloves on. Don't know if they plan on keeping that effect, but that's what I have for now.

Ok, yeah, sorry, just seen the better processed one. Now I have nothing to complain about. Other than when will we be expecting an RPG video (I know you told me to use my imagination but I just can't imagine it).

Not everyone wants to use sackbots for everything, you know. They do actually cost thermometer space, and take more effort to make and tweak.

Many people will be using Sackbots considering Sackboy's jump is terrible and they'll want to tweak his jumping physics...but anyway, if you can just have Sackboy automatically enter a Sackbot at the beginning of a level that looks exactly how you want it and can shoot what it wants, why would you want to have a silly hat and tank to use an emitter?

As for thermometer space, I doubt there's going to be one level in LBP2 that doesn't utilize at least one Sackbot anyway.

When I was running through these demos with Gev and Tom, I did pose the question about thermo space and sackbots... Tom's answer was something like "It's still in the early stages and still there will be room for adjustment." Meaning that Mm is still working on the sackbots NOT taking up SO much thermo space. Also I noticed that the thermo would bounce up and down, especially when Tom was messing about with the "Starfox" level... He said that was because the thermo was only taking into account what was "on screen" and not in the entire level. Still, he said there was plenty of room for the devs to adjust the thermo features. Hope this info helps.

I said that it wouldn't work on top-down levels since you can't use Sackbots on those

Anyway, regardless, if I'll just say that in my case, if I can make a Sackbot that looks like Cole from inFAMOUS and put an emitter on his hand, and have my Sackboy enter him immediately from the beginning of the level, I'd rather work around that than use the Creatinator with a giant helmet and tank and hose to totally destroy the immersion.

An idea that occurs for the burning animation would be to actually set it on fire using the lethaliser, than then destroy it after a time delay. Not sure which of the effects would work though. The music isn't actually sorted out yet. The stuff that's in the current builds is largely unlicensed and I don't know if it's even intended for the final game. I wouldn't infer too much from the symbols that appear in the popit. I'm sure there will be some more interactive music coming our way.

You can hide microchips like Wex said. The other way to hide everything is through the start menu, and there's a 'preview' mode. Which let's you see exactly how it would look in play mode

This is just speculation, but usually pins are used to mark stuff. For example when on google maps you mark a location with a pin. So maybe I was thinking they are used for marking lvls that you want to play later or that you really like? idk Also.....Donkey you are awesome!!!!! These videos are great! Indeed. Most people surely have the trophy by now but you still see lots of people after hearts and high ratings etc just so that they can stay on the cool pages and become 'famous'.

One thing I still understand so much is how you use the holographic material. How exactly do you make it light up? And is it the same material as the dance floor in the trailer or are they different?

Hm, honestly I think they should eliminate all instances of automatic rewards given for being hearted. Whether trophies or pins, people are going to get rabies in their attempts to collect every pin. To me it's just sort of a thing where the community had a chance to be grown up, and failed. It's a "we're not allowed to have nice things" situation. There are ways to create rewards for things that will actually help the community - by playing and rating others' levels, for example. But they're going to run into the same level of H4H if there are pins for hearts.

The hope is that with level streams and lbp.me, they will simply be drowned out by better stuff. But who knows yet what that's going to be like?

Either way, as good as the IDEA is to reward successful creators, way too much of the community is going to abuse these pins and pursue them at any cost, even if it means hurting the community as a whole. It's going to end up cheapening the pins anyway.

I considered maybe a better solution would be a pin you get for being "featured" on MM's picks. But then just imagine the extent of annoying non-creators pestering and bugging poor Tom and Spaff incessantly, begging and pleading to get on Mm picks. We're MONSTERS!

Indeed. Most people surely have the trophy by now

I don't. I don't even have the "I published a level" trophy. I really should get back to finishing that two-player level, but thinking about what I'm going to do in LBP2 is so much more appealing!

Sadly what Teebonsy said is right (At least in my opinion) WE'RE MONSTERS. I think that the only solution is to not include any type of trophy or pin that has to do with hearts U.U

I think I have some stuff about sound objects in the next 2 vids. As for the game being not final, if people don't realize that, it's their fault. I'll put a disclaimer about it regardless. And yay sticky!

It's hard to imagine exactly how they work and would be good to see them in action in create mode to get a better understanding

Yes you could, you can have a sackbot and stick an emitter (that shoots out electricity) on him than use the direct control seat to control the sackbot and the emitter without making it look weird.

If thats the case, Why do we even need Creatinators!?

Well because (at least I hope) The creatinator costs less than a sackbot with a DCS and an emitter on his hand. And if you would rather do it that way there would be no problem. Its just one more choice
