"Smirk"?

...SMIRK??

If you ask me it looks like someone needs to give him his munchies post-haste and let him take a nap before he gets paranoid and starts mumbling about the purple elephants again.

Okay so YouTube is being poopy for me; the audio worked fine but not the video.

Which one of you lot is from right here in Toronto? Do you know how many pints of beer in this city go un-drunk each day? We should do something about that!

Hmmm, I'm not entirely sure I want to watch that... All I remember was just struggling to think of anything to say, blabbing away, thinking to myself that it sounded rediculous and being horrified that Alex seemed to be enjoying all the bits I thought sounded stupidest, lol.2010-06-16 10:29:00

Hang on, I just... need to... do this one thing... no, no... two things.

I realize some of you may not want to watch the video, and that's cool, I'll extract the best pieces here. Remember that I do this because of three reasons.
1) I love.
2) You freaking went to Media Molecule on Sony's dime and played LittleBigPlanet 2.
3) I love.

Grant was suffing from drinking too much beers from the night previous! Don't worry, they had a fridge full of beer ready to go there too so we were kept in style throughout the night.

*and if Fullgorrs mother happens to reading this Im only joking of course they would never do such a crazy thing like that and even if they did your son is far more sensible than to try and sneak anything out of that nonexistant fridge*

You know, there were no better screen captures of you than the one youtube picked by default to be the face of this video. It captures the scene I think, that one. Captures the mood in the air.

That video is excellent. At :45 in the video, you can see a brief snippet of our helicopter level, but unfortunately they were on their last life so you can't see the HUD. Oh well, still incredibly awesome!

Actually that level looked really neato, what's the deal with the water/river effect, how did that work? I may have just missed this explanation somewhere along the line, but that there looks like a water material, or at least a few layers of various translucent stickered materials.

By the way, don't think I don't know what you're doing. I'll let you get this back on topic THIS time, but only because I ran out of funny screenshots.

It's one of the new animated materials. It's cartoony, but it works for things such as how we used it there.

---

Also, you should note that our level is called "Go Kart rally (With Better Glue)" When it really has nothing to do with Go-Karts. We were being weird like everyone else, but I think it's probably the most confusing!

Edit: here you can see the HUD on both you and the enemies:

Is that the animated water material? It looks like something like that...

I realize you were going for The Hulk, but in the end you only revealed that compher is in fact among your legion of tiny warriors that I can hear scratching at the walls of my house while I try to sleep every night.

But it has better glue! I could tell in the video.

The glue was... comph, let me tell you, okay. The glue was SUPERB.
Possibly the best gluing job I've ever seen.

I see MM realised (http://www.littlebigplanet.com/en-us/news/article/littlebigplanet_community_game_jam/) there was no way they could write a better article than this.

However, one thing worth noting from there...

In a few weeks time we?ll have an even longer edit of the video, showing more of these wonderful creative folks, and of the games they made, so make sure to look out for that. The Community Game Jam was hopefully only the first of these type of events to come, we?ll have to see!

...so sounds like a bit of a wait before we get to see the rest.

Also sounds as if they're keen to try it again.

There are a few things women are naturally better at... like multitasking (cooking, cleaning and complaining simultaneously) and giving birth.

Just to reiterate, and I've said this before, and to get the topic back on track, I'm happy for you guys who got to go to this thing. I went through a big long period of mourning and bein' depressed about it when I first found out about it, but I really am happy for you guys who went, as you're my friends.

But the girl thing, I did find it a bit weird. If there's another one of these, and women are allowed to come, I'll overcome my fear of flying and even get my passport for it.

I posted that picture as sort of a lighthearted thing, though. Don't y'all go thinking I'm some sort of feminist or anything, cause I'm really not. I think we're all equal.^__^

But at any event when you have women thrown into a mix, they become... distracting.

Frankly, I think it would've taken quite a lot to 'distract' these guys from LBP2.

I highly doubt anyone would be distracted by lil ol' me, megablob. That's why I wear the box over my head, afterall.
But the subtle scent of female pheromones still linger in the air!

Actually, thinking about it, I still owe wex a big kiss....
This is what happens when there's no women to resort to.

My husband would say that "the women were where they belong... in the kitchen!"

That would be right before you drop him like a ton of bricks, yeah? Put those men in their place!

And um, not to be the worst buzzkill since Buzz Killington, but could we maybe tone it down a bit with the starting-to-get-a-little-on-the-offensive-side jokes about those of us guys who like guys?

I'm just frustrated there were no feeshe invited. I can understand not wanting all that female cooking, cleaning, complaining, and child birthing going on, but come on... NO FEESHE?

Sure, you are definitely the first person I'd ask for an arcade game. Maybe they wanted the others to still have a chance of winning?

Just watched the video and boy did they pick out the most cringeworthy bits from my interview

Just to clarify, the "more, more of everything", was me in a panic over the question "sum up LBP2 in a couple of sentences"... there was about 5 seconds of choking, then that, then me continuing on with some complete nonsense. Although that's how all of my answers went, so maybe that was the only useable bit from my entire interview.

Either way, Alex Evans, I hate you

I know the feeling. Last year I got interviewed about a website for a local paper. This was at a meetup for this website, and apparently the reporter had been specifically trying to hunt me down all night.

She found me around 1AM. I'd been at the bar since about 8PM. You can imagine the load of utter cobblers that came pouring out of my mouth.

Man, you know the video interviews on the News networks where they show people that say normal things, then a mad that says complete nonsense, and they made him repeat the concept over and over?

what's age are you allowed to get wasted and stumble home at in canada?
its 18 (legally) where i live. but most youths start early (maybe 13-16).

Is it frowned upon in canada to get really drunk (just really drunk and not do anything to disturb any peace like)

It alternates by province, largely. British Columbia is 19, Alberta is 18, Saskatchewan 19, Manitoba 18, Ontario 19, etc etc etc.

We don't drink quite as hard as you lot in Eire, but we do our best. I work with a bunch of Irish boys and girls and boy howdy, are they fun when drinking!

so its safe to say ye are tolerant of our general binge drinking habits?

I plan on moving to canada with my soon-to-be degree someday, i'm not an alcoholic but usually when/if i drink and the there's merriment to be had i sometimes tend to get wasted/ paraletic/ astocious/ polluted/ twisted etc.

I imagined if i was at the Jam i would have gotten smashed on the last night.

"...No. I'm allergic to... interviews. NO I'M ALLERGIC TO BOARDS. CHALK!! CHALK board interviews, I'm allergic. I can't. My throat swells up and I break out into a terrible rash."

It's not even worth playing nevermind being shown on a video You can tell it wasn't exactly something I intended to show everyone by the fact I ran to anposteller's station and published it as 'jack' while everyone was demoing their levels at the end of the day

I guess Sony just know true quality when they see it

To be fair, 'favours' would be more than acceptable considering who was co-ordinating the video shoot

I just want you guys to know that I was speaking with Spaff recently, and he wanted me to pass his apologies along to the community about the "no girls" thing. I hope that this clears up some of the anger that a few people in the community have felt. I will paste what he said to me:

Regarding the game jam and girls - it wasn't a planned thing or anything, it came down to being about how many people we could bring from stateside, and how many from the the UK, and also started off being mainly Sacky award winning creators that we included. It was hard enough to whittle the list down to the people we had, and I was always going to be excluding people, which is sad but also had to be done!

It was just as you say, a kind of oversight, and we have no reason to exclude anyone female, in fact we all sat there pondering what to do about it ourselves.

But yes we for instance realised at some point, oh this is a room full of white guys, we should've aimed for a bit of diversity!

Sorry about that! Please send my apologies to everyone, it isn't a purposeful move, to be honest we didn't know the sex, age, race etc of half of the people before we got in touch

I just want you guys to know that I was speaking with Spaff recently, and he wanted me to pass his apologies along to the community about the "no girls" thing. It was a complete oversight on MM's part, and I was assured that it would never happen again if there ever were another of these sort of shindigs. I hope that this clears up some of the anger that a few people in the community have felt. I will paste what he said to me:

If there is a "next time" .... I mean, it's all speculation at this point... What I do know is this: MM knows about it and in the future, if they did for some reason have anything like this Game Jam, women and people of other races will be included definitely. ^__^

Also: If there is a "next time" ... I think it might be time for xkappax to try to conquer her fear of flying. I almost think I could get on a plane for something like the game jam. ^_^

To be honest I don't think Spaff or Mm have anything to apologise for. The fact that they simply picked who they wanted there the most without taking anything else into consideration is justification enough, surely?

Picking someone just because there gender isn't represented just seems patronising to me. If Mm were to discard their first choice to come and then say 'okay, so who's an awesome woman creator that we know?' surely that's not right?

Now of course I don't doubt that there are lady creators who deserved to go, my point is simply that gender was never a consideration for Mm and they just picked who they wanted there knowing very little about them other than their PSN's.

A lot of the debate has been tongue in cheek, I know, but its been mentioned enough to justify a serious response I think, plus, I thought I'd play devils advocate

So, the point of my post...Spaff apologising actually makes it seem like they have something to be sorry for, which I don't think they do (saying that, Spaff was probably just being polite and therefore this post a waste of time

My posts were just messing around, and my posts were tongue in cheek, but I'm sorry to say that there were a few people who were (are) still rather upset. Spaff asked me to pass that along for the benefit of those particular people. Please don't shoot the messenger.

Edit: And for the record, Jack, I agree with you. But there are at least two female creators that I can think of off the top of my head who absolutely blow many of the guys out of the water, and it was sorta a shock that they weren't included.

But, there were many things to take into consideration, for example, the fact that it was in england it's expensive to fly people there from the states, etc. Also, I'm sure they had a limited number of slots to fill.

I think it's kinda funny that it was a room full of white guys, though.

Anyway, I posted what I posted to try to stop the "why didn't girls get to go" argument. Cause this is a thread about the creator jam, the people who went, and the coolness of lbp2. ^__^ I definitely don't want to get into some sort of feminist debate, as i am completely NOT a feminist.

I also posted it to possibly help some of those that were left out feel a little bit better about themselves.

So, the point of my post...Spaff apologising actually makes it seem like they have something to be sorry for, which I don't think they do

To me, spaff's comment comes across exactly the way he intended: They didn't pick based on gender, they picked on the reputations of the creators and that even then there were plenty more people (male and female) that could easily have been invited alongside or instead of us - you could have run the event several times over without a drop in the level of talent there. I think MM knows that as well as everyone else.

It's not really an apology, more of an "It's not what we intended, that's just how it turned out". Anyways, simply looking at the staff at MM, it's clear that there is absolutely no institutional prejudice on race or gender within the company.

The whole thing kinda strikes me a little like the south park episode where the kids are perceived as acting racist, but in actual fact skin colour simply hadn't registered at allwith them as a factor. We're all people y'know

Of course, saying that, I'm a white, middle-class man in my mid 20s, what do I know about prejudice?

Exactly. I was just commenting on the one point where Spaff actually did say 'sorry', and people who were genuinely annoyed by there not being any women present could see that as that as Mm admitting they were in the wrong. (Regardless of what the rest of his quote says). What Sara said is in line with that too ''I was assured that it would never happen again if there ever were another of these sort of shindigs' that makes it sound like it was an error on Mm's part. When I don't believe it was anything of the kind, it was just how it turned out. At the very most could be classed as unfortunate.

But whatever, every sane person already knows it wasn't meant anyway so we're just treading ground that doesn't have to be tread really All is good!

Poms isn't white, per se! I think the thing that should be of most interest is the vast age span for all of the folk at the Jam. From 17 to [Redacted]. There was quite a variety there.

Yes, I apologize for saying that. I should have worded it differently. You guys have it right. I'm terrible with words. LOL. You guys can not let me post early in the morning anymore, got it?

Spaff just wanted me to pass that along to everyone just so everyone understood why mm chose who they chose and why people were left out. My first paragraph was rubbish, though. I've revised it.

Edit: It's funny, I posted that so we could AVOID this discussion. I've made a mess of things. Argh. *runs and hides under rock*

I have a question for all the souls lucky enough to attend:
How easy would it be to create a Lemmings Inspired level, with little sackbots walking along the ground, and there's a HUD with different Icons for different types of Sackbot, and you select an Icon then a sackbot and he gains that power up? And if you move the cursor to the edge of the screen the screen scrolls in that direction?
I'm guessing it would be hard but possible, but obviousply I have no idea how much more awesome than awesome the new tools are.

Yeah, I'd say that's doable. Similar in a way to the RTS level. I think the limiting factor would be having all sackbots having all "powers" contained within their own logic. Unless you were to destroy the sackbot and replace it with a new, powered up version.2010-06-24 00:45:00

Considering how much you can put on logic boards and such this might not be too bad, depending what the power ups are?

YES! Why you ask? Because it's LittleBigPlanet 2, it's the mother of all games! It's cold ice cream on a hot summer day. It's the feeling of sand between your feet. It's gonna change everything. It's a factory of innovation. It's THEE video game!

It's like RAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNN ON YOUR WEDDING DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY

sorry

I definitely don't want to get into some sort of feminist debate, as i am completely NOT a feminist.

You don't believe women should be equal to men? How odd. That is what feminism means you know.

Dang, I just returned to this thread after a few days and it seems like a real heated debate ensued after my last post. I wish I'd never mentioned the whole no girls thing. I guess my first thought after noting who was there, was "where's Morgana?" She's clearly one of the most talented and most popular creators here on the forums, in the same league as rtm, comph, grantos, jack, wex, etc. She just seemed conspicuous by her absence somehow, and then it dawned on me there were no girls there at all. However, as Spaff pointed out, they didn't know anything about the race, gender or sexuality of anyone they had invited and it just turned out that way, that the room was full of white men of questionable sexual orientation, lol.

Anyway, it would be a shame if they held a special day for female creators just to create an impression of gender equality. That's reverse sexism. If they do another jam, then I believe that Morgana should be invited not because she's female, but because she's an extremely popular top tier talent who deserves some recognition from MM. TBH, I still can't figure out why she wasn't invited in the first place.

Did Sony arrange a limo at the airports with a guy standing there with the sign "Happygadder" to take you to the offices? That'd be hilarious.2010-06-26 12:34:00
