LBP2 At Sony's E3 Press Conference
Archive: 171 posts
For those of you who may not be aware, we can expect to see some cool LittleBigPlanet 2-related things at Sony's press conference, scheduled to be held today at 12:00 PDT. There are lots of ways to watch the conference, so if you've already got a preference feel free to stick to it. If you don't, we've got a good option for you: E3.IGN.com/2010/live (http://e3.ign.com/2010/live/index.html) From now until 12 PDT IGN will just be showing reruns of old footage, but from 12 onward they'll be streaming Sony's press conference in the highest quality your bandwidth will allow. Until then, feel free to use this thread to speculate. When we finally do see LittleBigPlanet 2, this thread will double as a nice place to discuss all the new information we're expecting will be revealed during the course of the conference. Enjoy! At Sony's press conference, they showed some really fantastic things made in LittleBigPlanet 2 by Creators at an event held by Sony and Mm a few weeks back called the Community Game Jam 2010 (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=28709-Community-Game-Jam-2010&p=497557#post497557). Embedded below is the entire LittleBigPlanet 2 portion of the conference: <object id='vid_19675' width='480' height='270' data='http://media.ign.com/ev/embed.swf' type='application/x-shockwave-flash'><param name='movie' value='http://media.ign.com/ev/embed.swf' /><param name='allowfullscreen' value='true' /><param name='allowscriptaccess' value='always' /><param name='bgcolor' value='#000000' /><param name='flashvars' value='vgroup=e310_lbp2_demo_061510&object=19675' /></object> Also note that we're expecting more from E3 about LBP2 tomorrow (Wednesday 16th June) from IGN at these times - you'll have to tune into IGN specifically if you want to see them, though. Other press will have their own individual demos at separate times. 11:00 PDT (Pacific) 12:00 MDT (Mountain) 13:00 CDT (Central) 14:00 EDT (Eastern) 19:00 BST (UK) | 2010-06-15 19:14:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |

Here's an overview of everything from today's presentation on LBP2. So now we have competitive scoring! Awesome. This is obviously has top-down view, I believe the cameras are very advanced. The create-iniator is a hat that emits any object, and has custom controls. So the magic glove is something else. There is a competitive camera mode where every person gets their own camera! They invited people to the MM office, and gave them a day to create a bunch of amazing crap. The story mode will stick to platforming. Advanced AI. Strategy-game demonstration. There will be a second part tomorrow. (could I get this on the first post or something? it would probably help) | 2010-06-15 21:11:00 Author: Arkei Posts: 1432 |

Did anyone notice at the scoreboard at the end of the X & O's game, there's a level linking badge on the scoreboard? | 2010-06-15 22:47:00 Author: GreyMRP Posts: 588 |
Oh my god! Thank you so so so much GreyMRP! I've been looking for this for ages. I was watching E3 live, it was working fine, then as soon as they mentioned LittleBigPlanet2, the video stopped working, I went completely mad trying to get it to work again, when I did, they'd already finished! Lol, talk about unlucky... But OMG, that is amazing, Creatornator! ZOMG! Ehh... *head asplodes* I'm a little sad now. I wanted to see more! You're kidding me right? I was expecting less, much much less... | 2010-06-15 22:51:00 Author: Doopz Posts: 5592 |
Did anyone notice at the scoreboard at the end of the X & O's game, there's a level linking badge on the scoreboard? I really cant see it. Do you refer to that decoration of the history pack stuck to the scoreaboard? | 2010-06-15 22:54:00 Author: Keldur Posts: 628 |
I really cant see it. Do you refer to that decoration of the history pack stuck to the scoreaboard? Yeah! Judging by the info on the LBP2 site, that red badge with the ribbon IS the linking badge! | 2010-06-15 22:59:00 Author: GreyMRP Posts: 588 |
Whoa, whoa... So it seems that each player CAN have their own spawn point, plus each player gets their own screen, so they aren't locked onto the same camera. Already the multiplayer possibilities are absolutely through the roof. You could create Little Big Team Fortress! | 2010-06-15 23:00:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |

With this announcement of competitive scoring and competitive cameras, I hope we can choose if the level/game is cooperative with shared scores and shared camera like in the original or competitive in the tools bag or creation moon. Also, hat with an emitter power up? Object commanding for rts levels/games? | 2010-06-15 23:54:00 Author: SackBolt Posts: 97 |
With this announcement of competitive scoring and competitive cameras, I hope we can choose if the level/game is cooperative with shared scores and shared camera like in the original or competitive in the tools bag or creation moon. Yeah you can. I think the two may be linked - so normal play has shared cam, but competitive has separate, but I'm really not sure. Object commanding for rts levels/games? There is a LOT of logic making that work, it's not just a plug and play feature of the game, just so you know | 2010-06-16 00:02:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Already the multiplayer possibilities are absolutely through the roof. You could create Little Big Team Fortress! Correction: We WILL create LittleBigTeamFortress 2. We must! It's going to be a little weird doing any competitive with only 4 players, though. Sackbot AI? | 2010-06-16 00:06:00 Author: Arkei Posts: 1432 |

So RTM, how does one do a RTS in LBP 2? | 2010-06-16 07:17:00 Author: shebhnt Posts: 414 |
Someone already broke down some of the possibilities, forget who. Just check earlier in the thread... or maybe in the new thread about the new details? Yeah I think that was the one. So the competitive camera plus separate spawn points means the following is possible. Player 1 spawns on the far right as Sackzilla, gigantic and crushing the city below. Your goal: Destroy city hall! Player 2 spawns as a tiny, regular sackperson on the far left. Your goal: Destroy Sackzilla! Think about it. Player one has to beat a giant boss PLAYED BY player 2. Player 1 maybe gets several lives, but player 2 only has one life. once sackzilla's down, it's over. sackzilla needs only to destroy city hall to win. Obviously the easiest way to do that will be to "remove" player 1 from the equation. Raaaar!! | 2010-06-16 08:34:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
All these things sound so exciting ! But are you sure each player has his own screen ? I mean, I did see the countdown to death in the video, when the first player goes up and leaves the other ones. Having his very own screen would be fantastic, we could play hide and seek ! :hero: Err...hmm, yeah...Or Team Fortress 2 as well... | 2010-06-16 09:37:00 Author: Oddmania Posts: 1305 |

You can have separate screens, in online multiplayer. We thought about doing 2-player helicopter ops, but we realised that we weren't going to be demoing online and the netcode was a tad flakey anyway, but it's definitely possible As for RTS - I'm sure as hell not writing a breakdown of how I'd go about implementing that in detail | 2010-06-16 12:06:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

Hm, I thought that there was going to be a dedicated LBP2 event today? I saw it on the E3 schedule, but perhaps all this was was just a little 4 minute interview with Alex Evans done by IGN? Because that's all I saw come up at 11 oclock over on IGN. I've seen no mention of an LBP2 event anywhere else on any site... Surely they're going to be revealing new stuff and that video they've got up of the game jam, right? Wha happun? | 2010-06-16 19:17:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
I think the LBP2 event was just what was on IGNs schedule, and no one realised how insignificant it was going to be | 2010-06-16 19:18:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

I don't think IGN realise how big an event to gadders round the world this is. Bad call IGN. Baaaaaad call. | 2010-06-16 19:23:00 Author: FlipMeister Posts: 631 |
I don't think Sony realise how big an event to gadders round the world this is. Bad call Sony. Baaaaaad call. It was an IGN interview. Nothing to do with Sony. | 2010-06-16 19:25:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
In fairness, for a single game, LBP2 did have quite a significant slot yesterday on the main Sony presentation. In fact, it may have been the only thing that wasn't tied into them selling more hardware. | 2010-06-16 19:28:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

Looks as if the build they took to E3 only had four levels in it, and there was no evidence of any create mode demos. Surely they're going to be revealing new stuff and that video they've got up of the game jam, right? Wha happun? From what they say on their website, they haven't actually cut together the Game Jam footage yet, other than the 90-second clip that's already up. | 2010-06-16 19:28:00 Author: Aya042 Posts: 2870 |
It's a shame that that was it. I was hoping for them to go into create mode and demonstrate some of the new features. | 2010-06-16 19:34:00 Author: ADS_LEGEND Posts: 140 |
Boo, I liked being able to do everything offline that I could online. I much prefer offline multiplayer... but it looks like the camera will be less accommodating this time around. | 2010-06-16 19:46:00 Author: monstahr Posts: 1361 |

Competitive play online apparently has separate screens right? And I don't think there's any splitscreen, so offline multiplayer will have a shared camera in both normal and competitive modes. | 2010-06-16 20:03:00 Author: monstahr Posts: 1361 |
Separate screens are not the only thing available online, it's a choice. | 2010-06-16 20:10:00 Author: Arkei Posts: 1432 |
Yeah, I know. But it just means probably a good many of competitive levels from the community will be impossible to play locally. | 2010-06-16 20:11:00 Author: monstahr Posts: 1361 |
Yeah, I know. But it just means probably a good many of competitive levels from the community will be impossible to play locally. I think monstahr's right here. If you have competitive game where the players spawn at opposite parts of the map, this is not going to be possible in local play. There's another issue, but maybe someone from the game jam can clarify this for me? It appears in recent videos on the show floor that in competitive-camera mode, if a player activates a checkpoint, it automatically jumps the second player to that checkpoint as well? This is what appears to happen in some of the bounce-bad level videos I've seen, but I can't be sure. Hopefully if this is the case it can be disabled. | 2010-06-16 20:16:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |

That's because the other player isn't there and dies and respawns all the time. I've seen a video where they work just like normal checkpoints. | 2010-06-16 20:39:00 Author: napero7 Posts: 1653 |
I think you can allocate different checkpoints to different players. There MIGHT be some form of split-screen because it wouldn't work properly if players spawn at different places in the level. | 2010-06-16 21:07:00 Author: Unknown User |
Whoa, so apparently Mm DID put on a presentation today! http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/16/more-littlebigplanet-2-community-features-lbp-me-functionality/ I'd love to see some video or a more detailed write-up, but alas, I have found nothing yet. Doesn't sound like there's a whole lot of new info that WE don't know, but it does look like they showed off the new community features in action with video, so this would be really cool to see. | 2010-06-17 02:19:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
