The Odyssey: Part II (a) and (b) - The Rise of a ChampionDuffluc
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d43/duffluc/APhoto_49.jpgThe tide of battle has shifted, but the Trojan war is not yet won! Explore the halls of this once great city, crush the last of Troys defenses, and write your name in the pages of history! Then, in part (b) finish the fight once and for all buy chasing down the last of the surviving Trojans, and ensuring their complete downfall!
Hey all!

Here it is, part 2 to my level series "The Odyssey", based on the Trojan war and the events thereafter! You can find the prologue and part 1 of this series here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=19997-The-Odyssey-Prologue-Journey-to-Troy&p=353982#post353982) and here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=23655-The-Odyssey-Part-1-The-Sacking-of-Troy).

This level picks up immediately where the last one left off, and will showcase the destruction of the city of Troy, the murder of King Priam, and a hunt for the fleeing survivors. Due to the incredible amount of 3D that I used, I was forced to break this level into two. The Odyssey: Part II (a) and The Odyssey: Part II (b). Please play part (a) first!

Here are some pics!

Part A:

I love feedback, so I'll do as many F4F's as I receive!

I have plans for a part 3 detailing the return home to Ithica, but am taking a break from the series to build something else. Thanks for playing, and have fun!

Another great Greek Empire levels. I loved the 3D layer visuals and the gameplay is good. In part a, at first I got kinda stuck near the door an Trojan army is blocking until I figured out that I should use a box to reach an torch. The enemies are fantastic too. In part b, I liked the idea of raising an crane and use it as an platform but the last switch seems to not raising it until I put that switch to between left and center [You should somehow fix that switch]. The final boss is ingenious and it is one of the best ones I ever go against. Overall I gave both of your levels 5 Stars and a heart.

Play and F4F "The Hero Chronicles LV3 Action Mansion" if you can.

Really a brilliant level, you are now one of my favorite creators. The level of detail that went into these two were incredible, and they are nothing short of brilliant, part b especially. The first thing that caught my eye are the stunning visuals, I had seen nothing of that caliber until I played this level, you are one of the finest visualists in all of LBP. You used the 3d glitch in such a marvelous way, by creating mountains, paths, chambers, and they all look stunning and fit around the also incredible seven real planes in such a way that looks absolutely fantastic. Gameplay wise, these levels were expertly crafted. Part "a" had some really brilliant platforming sections and looked made for some really fantastic scenes. One grievance I have with this part were the enemies, because they were a little hard to figure out, and were a bit unpredictable (which in this case is a bad thing ) and I had a bit of trouble defeating them. Part "b" however might probably be the most incredible level I have ever played, not only was the level, paced and created incredibly well, but that was the greatest boss battle in the world. I have never experience such an amazing fight ever playing this game, and I've had it from before day one. It was challenging, fair, exciting, original, creative, and overall outstanding. This, for me, was the absolute highlight of both the levels, and my week. You have done an outstanding job, recreating one of history's greatest stories, I really hope you are up to tackling the rest of epic tale, because no one will be able to do it like you can, and I cannot wait to play the rest.

Part A- :star::star::star::star::star: and <3
Part B- :star::star::star::star::star: and <3
and a creator heart, really amazing work

I would be honored if you would critique my Virus level, the link is in my signature.

Wow. Absolute wow! The first part was crazy great, and so was the second part! And the part b of the second part.
Anyways, it was stunning. That's it. Absolutely bloody stunning!
I rated the first and second 5 stars each, with two hearts, and the tag of brilliant on them!
Now to the criticism:
Well, in the first part, the soldiers were a bit confusing, and I got killed for a while when I tried to kill them, but I got it eventually. I felt so tiny though...
Anyways, the puzzles were very good as well. But in part b, in the platforms with the three way levers you have to pull continuously, you can just jump off the first one onto the highest platform next to the other zip line. The boss was somewhat confusing, but once I had him figured it out, it was also very amazing!
In part a, your choice of music is just the best ever.

Could you please leave F4F on my level River Rush? Link is in my signature.

Hey dude I just finish playing both part 1 and part 2 of this level and let me tell you I see the next spotlight level here. I really enjoy both level they are really creative and this is by far the best 3D layer level I have seen yet they are really innovated levels. I gave both levels a :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3

Ok so the prologue was great, so was the first one, and these two did not disappoint!
I loved the silhouette intro, its very artistic and cool. The levels had very good visuals, and the use of the 3D glitch was some of the best out there. The enemies were great. (How did you do the shield bash thing? That was cool!)
Part A was kinda short but its not a bigy.
Part B was interesting with the theme change that made it different then the others, it made it feel more like you were under ground.
I wasn't able to finish part B because I couldn't figure out what to do when you raise the big basket full of blocks, I raised it, jumped on it went over across and did the bit with the latter, then couldn't figure out how to get back across the chasm up above.
Despite that I gave both 5 stars and a heart.

There should be a switch right up at after the little weights section, what moves the lift up again. using it you can once again activate the lift to go up, jump on it then ride it up another level. you have to do that 3 times throughout the whole thing lol.

Those are just awesome levels!

Loved the 3d Glitch work.

Your final boss on part b is a beast! took me a good half hour to get rid of him! Kept getting nailed by the gas in the ceiling and couldn't get the timing right. argh! Still two wonderful levels though!

Thanks Morgana! Glad you enjoyed them!

yeah... he can do that lol. Once you get the pattern down he gets a lot more manageable (just run right with a rock as he hits the ground, get a hit on him then hid on the right hand side as the rocks fall from the sky) but a lot of people that play him the first time have trouble, or get frustrated! I still don't know what to do to fix it lol, I think it's just his nature to not go down without a fight.

I think the main problem is the rocks that you place to go up more often that not miss him and fall down again. That means people are doing exactly the right thing but getting no result because it's too inconsistent. Maybe a more angled roof to direct the rock towards him would help.

What I do is actually hold onto the rocks as they fly up lol. that way you can use your sackboy to steer the rock in the right direction! but you might be right, people using that strategy could have some trouble, I'll have to try and tweak the roof a bit.

Yes I tried holding them originally but got gassed every time so gave up on that method.

Well, I went and played the whole series, two player, and I have feedback for all of them. So you're getting more bang for your F4F buck here.
1) The prologue was kinda cool to start with, but the ship didn't work. We lifted the anchor, hoisted the flag, and then nothing happened. The prologue, sadly, got the "non-functioning level" rating of one star.:star:
2) Your intros, as in "a duffluc presentation, blah blah blah" were amazing. I'm inspired to make an even more elaborate intro for my next level now, not to 1-up you, but rather to emulate your intro-style.
3) The elevator that lifts you from the bottom floor of the seige tower to the top floor is very amateur, and I would recommend you have some kind of player-activated switch that sets it off rather than have it continuously move up and down.
4) At one point, we get a close-up of your greek commander shouting "charge!" or something of that nature, and he has a visible wobble bolt in his neck. I don't know what that's about.
5) I know angular player trackers like the one on your part 1 boss have trouble with two players, but i'm just reminding you.
6) In your part 1 boss battle area, it's possible to go to the left, walk to the top of the steps, then jump to the right, and land on invisible material. All in all your use of invisible material in that section was confusing and it was not obvious that we had to walk up the right side stairs then jump down. We thought we were lost, or that the level had broken or something.
7) Your use of the 3D glitch was amazing, especially for me in part II. Kudos.
8) One of the jumps in part II: a was a little lengthy and difficult, specifically the one which is featured in your final screenshot of that level. It was just kinda weird, and it wouldn't hurt if you extended one of the platforms out a little more, making the jump less frustrating.
9) The moments where the player flips the switch, then runs to catch the rising basket of whatever that is, are really stressful, and they aren't too fun.
10) Your enemy battles are nicely varied, but a little unpredictable, and they seem pre-canned. as in, you made the enemy, captured it, and then a month later just crammed them into your level without giving the battles much context other than "hey look there's a bad guy!"
11) Running on the falling bridge was a nice touch, especially since when you die it resets.
12) I like how you make the player go all the way to the ceiling of this vaulted room, then make us fall all the way back down. It's fun, and I like how we have to undo progress to make progress.
13) Your boss battle is awesomely conceptualized, and it's a visual masterpiece. It does get frustrating though, as it's easy to spawn, step onto the battlefield, and get killed by a random flying rock. And it takes forever to take him down, even if you are really good at fighting the boss, meaning it gets monotonous given the infinite lives. It sucks when you fling a rock directly at the guy and it demits right before it hits him. And you should tweak the camera to make the guy and his life bar more visible.
14) Your scoreboards seem kind of, i dunno, anti-climactic given the punchiness of the rest of your levels. They seem to lack theme and visual flair.
15) btw, the Odyssey basically only explains the journey home from ithaca. If i'm right, it mentions the journey to troy a little bit, how they had to sacrifice a virgin for the seas to calm and let them leave port, but almost nothing about the trojan war itself. Your levels so far are more like recreations of the Iliad and the Aeneid than the Odyssey. Try having the npc's reference the player by the name Odysseus or something.
16) oh, and your pump-back-and-forth mine cart things were AWESOME

All in all, though, this is a very impressive level series, and my previous comments stand. Visually, these are the works of a greek god. Keep up the good work, and always work to refine your gameplay.
