Any quick LBP tips to share?

Archive: 20 posts

To me, LBP (create) is full of those littlebig details you have to know because if you don't, everything takes much longer. Usually after weeks of fizzeling to get a workaround to.. well work around, I realize there is a feature that makes it easy or there's another way of looking at it or a well published and better refined way of doing it.

So if you have any quick pointers, that you are glad to know about, that are not too obvious and that any potential newcomer would help, share it in this thread! There will always be someone who didn't know. I start with three tips, I only recently became aware of, concerning the overall handleing of LBP.

Quick text messaging via keyboard: You may know, many usb keyboards do work with ps3, (less sophisticated is better) and while in LBP you can open a small text window anytime with one press on space, very descret and subtle in the down left corner; type something and with return it's like you used the long and sluggish poppit message item. But no screen darkening, no missed text bubbles. No one told me! It makes in-game text-chatting much more comfortable.

Hidden/bonus stickers in some costum-pack dlc: In LBPstore, when you've bought a dlc costume pack (several costumes but NOT a level kit) you can download the costumes each by itself or you can choose the whole pack (in the middle). I just realized: Buy choosing the middle bubble, you get some stickers. Happend to me with heavy rain and sonic costumes! Haven't seen any note on stickers there...

Screensize: Under Settings in the start menu: You can optimize the screen size, mine was way off, I now see ca. an inch more of LBP every second (I doubt it really changes your screen size (say resolution), it doesn't seem to come with any side effects, maybe its better called "zoom" or "cut-out")

(Please refrain from hints like "you can punch sackboys", however if you have the the perfect motion, so that every punch hits, we're getting closer ;-)

These don't particularly apply to me, But I've never heard of them so thanks! I really need a USB Keyboard because it takes forever to type with the on screen keyboard, and I can't see what other people say while I'm typing!

Also, I shall try that screen res thing too! See if that helps me in any way

Actually, Xario gives the impression of someone who is making an effort to contribute something helpful and constructive to the LBP community.

You however, posting facetious comments in his thread, sound like a newb.

@ Xario - rather than using a standard USB keyboard, I can highly recommend saving up a little hard earned cash to buy one of these...

@joypad keyboard: I found it so cool, when I first saw it and my game store had a used one (so not too expensive) but it's not working for me, I never developed a feel for it, I was even faster using the grey rectangle thing with lot of letters that lives inside ps3.

@ general thread: Actually, can a mod change the title? I think it was more interesting to have a thread like: "Quick usefull tips for LBP", a collection of anything you discovered months after others, but you don't want to miss anymore?! Or do we have that already?

You can change the title yourself, by editing the first post and clicking 'go advanced'.

Lol, yes, there it says title...see, that's how I don't notice major features in video games....

Or you can just start typing. No need to press space.
OMG, totally on the fly, without any preparation?!? I think I'll make one step at a time, leaving space key out will be the task for next month :-)

Well, I'll change the title and original post a bit, so that any reader feels more obligated to leave tips as well. Thanx, folks!

The first link on our Tutorial Spotlight (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=26372-Tutorial-Spotlight) thread, Little things/tricks some don't know (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=11643-Little-things-tricks-some-don-t-know) has quite a comprehensive collection of these, including #3 on your list.

I was merely answering the question "...do we have that already?" although the one I mentioned is no longer actively maintained.

However, if you have the time to maintain such a thread, I'm sure it'd be appeciated by many.

Awesome. Best thing would be to start a new thread in the Tutorials (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?75-Tutorials) forum, amalgamate the content from your thread and brnxblze's, clean it up a little, and I'll put it into the Tutorial Spotlight.

There's also a bit of crossover with warlord_evil (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/member.php?4945-warlord_evil)'s Unnoticed Things In LBP (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=17027-Unnoticed-Things-In-LBP), so you might be able to *cough* 'borrow' a few things from there. Probably ought to check with him first, tho'.

The thing I most often use in create mode is a thin block of dark matter with a camera stuck on it. It's really useful for editing things up-close or for objects that are difficult to select because they're behind another object.

If you don't do that already that would be my tip!

Thanx Ayneh for your tip post.. even though I don't completly understand. What's its advantage over the camera tweaking in hover-mode? Which has bigger zoom-in (and -out) and bigger angle for sideway tilting...?!?

Tbh, i reccomend a standard USB keyboard, cheaper, faster, and easier to use.
Rather than Spending $50 on a small, sorta akward to use keypad, y not just buy a $20 full size, easy to use Keyboard?
