The Hero Chronicles LV3 Action MansionJustinArt
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=18143The filming place is becoming stranger than fiction. First be part of Steven Sackberg's new movie, then investigate the studio mansion to find something suspicious. There's racing for points and the usage of paintinator.
The third installment of "The Hero Chronicles" level series features the racing for points that determines how fast can you defeat one of the mini-bosses and pass through obstacles, and the usage of paintinator to defeat some enemies and solve some puzzles and obstacles. For the visuals of this level, it's varied with scenery depending on which room you're in including the black and white image when you're in the Sci-Fi Room which gives you a feeling you're in an old alien movie.
I put even more work on this level than the previous ones and hope it continues to maintain the level series. While playing this level, see if you can spot the famous quotes from some classic movies.
SPECIAL THANKS TO:
ARMYSTRONG11-for testing the level for me before I publish it.
LBPC Crew-for including my previous level in the "Also from the showcase..." section in COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT EPISODE 41
And anyone in LBPC- for more encouragements and inspirations of my levels.

The level was a cool concept, going to different rooms with different themes. I liked the movie quotes. The paintinator puzzles were really good.
However, the Level as a whole was just kinda meh.
The gameplay was pretty good, but it was mostly paintinator enemies, which in my opinion are hard to make a good level out of. The visuals lacked polish. You could make them a lot better by using the corner editor.
Next time make more puzzles for the paintinator and less enemies to shoot.
It was a fairly well put together level. I gave it :star::star::star:.

Thanks for an honest feedback. After reading it, I went back to LBP to update it with a few changes which only took me 40 minutes. Some areas of the level is now polished with corner edit tool plus I removed a few UFOs in Sci-Fi room and there's something new in exchange [you have to see it for yourself] and instead of attacking the bandit mini-boss with a paintinator, you need to reach the cranium on his knee while avoiding the bullets. Hope this level's first update improves the level because for some reason the level has an average rating of 2 stars [only 3 plays] and that's not like me because I worked hard on it. Thanks again for a feedback I appreciate it.

hey Justinart. thanks again for your feedback on my Troy level. I just played through this level of yours, and it was really well done!

I've played few of your levels in the past, and I really think that this is the best one that I've come across. visually it is your best work, i think, and the platforming was also very fun. I thought the car race was a great way to introduce the level, and I really liked the different studios that you had to go through throguth the level. I also really appreciated all the movie references lol. you must be quite the film fanatic! I loved the "Shirley" reference from Airplane! lol, I actually just watched that movie again like 2 days ago, and that made be laugh thanks! I thought the end robot boss was really well decorated and designed, he was a fun paintinator boss.

Overall it was a great, humorous and fun level to play through. I think its visuals still have room for improvement, and maybe a little less paintinator use would we a good thing but I also think it's the best level ive seen from you, and I really enjoyed playing through it! I gave it 4 stars. cant wait to see the next chapter. thanks again!

Thanks Duffluc and glad you liked it. You probably made this level's average rating went up to 3 stars which it's about time it's catching up with my previous "The Hero Chronicles" levels. Surely I'll give this level a visual improvement but don't call me Shirley.

This is a very fun exciting level, i had fun playing through all the genres and I was really into the story, but near the end at the boss there was a brain failure so the boss stopped shooting but it didn't die so I couldn't continue with the level

In my notes page I put that I liked
LIKES
-playing through all the genres
-the interesting and challenging platforming sequences
-the storyline

and I put that I didn't like
DISLIKES
-brain failure at the end of the level

over all rating 4/5 stars congratulations good job on the level

Thanks Wolverine. I'm surprised to hear that there's a brain failure. According to the plays, there's 10 plays and 12 completeds which means there's no problem with the boss. Maybe it's just you. I even tested the level and I successfully destroyed the boss every time I test it. There must be some sort of bug that rarely made the brain failed. Have you tried destroying the arms first then the body?
Anyways here's the level's second update. I added a bit more visuals to the level.

First let me say that I am a big fan of your previous Hero Chronicle levels especially LV1. LV1 was a HUGE learning experience for me as a creator and some of the tricks I learned from your level have permeated all of mine.

LV3 was just as fun and playable as its predecessors, though it lacked the lavish decoration and minute detail of LV1 & LV2. I liked the obstacles which all functioned brilliantly, but again I was surprised at their visual simplicity. Also I was hoping to see more of that JustinArt style of camera direction and lighting effects that I have come to love and expect, there were a few ooh&ah moments but nothing like the epic scale of Hero Chronicles 1&2. The final boss was very impressive, the beam effect was timed perfectly with its associated sound effects. One note on the boss though, I would use a bright red foggy light to mark the target, (in beam mode), b/c once the paint starts to fly it is very difficult to tell what color the boss' parts are.

Huge fan of the series! Can't wait to play LV4. BTW I was stoked when i saw the creator of Hero Chronicles played my level.

Thanks dTOtheTEE. Glad to see that my own level series has a big fan. Good news LV4 is coming next Tuesday and it'll feature the real water and item search and will have even better visuals than the series' predecessors.

According to Wolverine, there was a a brain failure that could rarely happen during the boss battle so in the level's new update, I changed the activation of the switches from magnetic key switch that can be activated after the boss' defeat to paintinator switch so that even if the boss is not destroyed [which could rarely happen], the bridge and sign will still appear and the lighting and music will still change after the paintinator switch's remaining energy hits zero. I also added a bit more stickers. The level is now bug-free [so far].

Really enjoyable level, you had some really good platforming, and paintinator sections, that really worked well. The level worked fine for me, I don't have any complaints gameplay wise. However at the last boss, I think it went a bit too fast, it was hard to shoot especially with the frequency of the lasers, and as I was playing, something fell onto the ground, it was round and intangible though, so I can't really tell you what it was, but it didn't seem like it was meant to fall down. The one other major complaint I had were with the visuals, some of the bosses and enemies looked good, but they were all blocky, and the buildings were all the one material, which irked me. Other than that good job :star::star::star:2010-06-26 23:56:00

I've just played the first one to give you some feedback, but then I noticed this thread is for number 3 in a series. Oops.

Never mind, I enjoyed the first installment (I'm sure that hot blue wizard girl has got a thing for me! Woo-hoo!), so I'll play all three and then get back to you.

Thanks Optimafrogg, Ungreth, and Arnaldo17. The level is finally picking up after really low plays and fewer feedbacks than the previous levels. I forgot to mention that the recent update added a few visuals with more materials and stickers. Thanks for more feedbacks. I appreciate it. And Optimafrogg, it might be the brain cover or one of the objects after you destroyed one of the arms.

Coming in Tuesday, "The Hero Chronicles LV4 The Lost Lagoon".

I'm just saying Justinart, I haven't forgotten to play these levels. I've just forgotten to feedback-ize them .

I'm not going to say anything big about parts 1 and 2, mainly because this isn't the thread for them and secondly because those aren't in fresh memory.

These comments apply levels 1&2... Wow, you seriously impressed me when you succeeded to combine the Justinart-y feel where there was the specific character you helped out each time and the appropriate boss for the level to the fresh enviroments... Your visual-making skill have improved vastly, looking back to the Hero quest levels. The characters are even better: I would call them top-notch.

Ok, level 3. I have some mixed feelings on this level. While it still has good visuals and I thought the best boss up to date in your levels, there were some pretty amateur things you fell for. First, you used the "old" Sackberg character from your Future city L.A level, and I'm pretty confident you could've made a better one now. Second, The bandit shoots extremely un-wildwesty 3-layer shots. I mean, wha?!!! I'm sure you could've restricted the player to the frontmost layer only. Third, well not really a complaint but the UFO enemies were too easy, maybe you could make them move or have shoot plasma in moving angles.

The good things are the jokes in this level, great boss, some good visuals and varied gameplay. Overall it's an enjoyable experience with only some minor hickups: looking forward to part 4, which is supposedly coming out really soon. Yay!

Thanks Arradi. Well I tried to make the UFOs move but they instantly got destroyed when I attached them to the pistons. Don't know how did it happen though.

I got good news and bad news. The bad news is that LV4 has been delayed due to wireless router issues that prevented my PS3 from downloading updates and I can't gain access to PSN until it's completely updated. The good news is that I began my production on LV5 and LV4 will be published as soon as my house has a new wireless router. For now LV3 is available to F4F if there's any levels you want me to look at and I'll play them when I get a new router. I'll let anyone know when will LV4 be published.

Pretty fun levels with some neat ideas on using the paintinator.

I thought it was over after the robot! I was wrong!

At the miniboss robot it seemed like I could just stand in one place and kill it.

The floating eyes are cool-looking, but maybe have them actually move around on a piston or something instead of just being stationary?

Final Boss was pretty cool, I loved the laser attack!

I really liked your ending area. The stage opening was cool as well as collecting the keys.

Overall, fun level, some cool objectives and a nice, smooth playing platformer. Maybe just a bit easy though.

:star::star::star::star:

P.S. Why in the heck does it have only 3 stars right now?

EDIT: Oh, I almost forgot! The beginning! Really cool!

Hey everyone. I just got a new wireless router but I'm going to be on vacation soon but I'll be back on Monday. LV4 will be published on Monday just to remind anyone who's waiting patiently for the arrival of it. See you Monday.

And RSQviper, I'll take a look at your level when I go back to LBP.

Sorry for taking so long on the feedback. Regardless of that, I though your level was moderately fun but a bit tedious. I think you overused the paintinator in your level (I'm sure you've heard this a lot by now) and it got pretty stale pretty fast. I liked the theme of the level; it was fun seeing what movie set would come up next. I also enjoyed some of your gameplay elements such as shooting the sponge on a rope to get it aligned with the magnetic key switch, for some reason I found that specifically to be really fun. Visually I found the level to be bland, but that's not to say it looked bad; it's just the materials didn't blend together very well in my opinion. Overall I gave it four stars. Now onto the next levels in the series!2010-08-30 02:49:00

This is some really late feedback but here goes!

This one was better than the previous two in my opinion, both visuallly and gameplay wise. The gameplay was the best thing about this level, all of the paintinator based gameplay was fun, and I liked killing the enemies. Visually, it still has some potential, but there's still some visible imrovement from your previous ones. I suggest when pressing the button to open teh door, it activates a magic mouth cutscene showing the dooor opening up. The western room was nicely decorated, and the trick of using the shield one decoration as a roof was really cool, I always ike seeing that kind of stuff in a level.the ending boss was hard, and the scoreboard area was cool. So overall, pretty cool level, I rated it :star::star::star::star:.

Thanks Zynax555. Well most people seem to enjoy the paintinator puzzles of this level so it's fine the way it is. However, that was back then the first day it was published that it has way too many paintinator obstacles but it has been reduced already.

Thanks Frogboy. I added the cutscene you mentioned. Also I improved the visuals of this level as I did more corner edits, add a few stickers and decorations, and changed a material.

I thought of improving my levels [starting with this one] a bit further before my level series finale arrives in Mid-October. That way anyone who waits for the arrival of LV8 will check out the improved versions of the other of "The Hero Chronicles".
