Incongruous Adventure

Incongruous AdventureElvenbane A freak burst of deadly creative energy has inexplicably fused all the partially filled craters of Elvenbane's moon into a single hideous quivering mass of a level...and it's up to you to tame it. Already endorsed by the LBP community whose rave reviews include but are not limited to the following: Annoying Mad Ramps Witness the horror of the difficulty selector, the brazen jump-button-esque platforming section, a painfully dated reference to an ancient text adventure, and the strangely edible caverns. Experience first hand ideas and concepts best left unseen; it's incongruous and it's an adventure! Adventure not yet rated by ESRB. Adventure not suitable for adults, children, or small furry animals. Adventure may cause feelings of extreme irritation and nausea in humans. | 2010-06-14 13:12:00 Author: fullofwin Posts: 1214 |
Sounds pretty good. I'll play this today. I am allergic to incongruity though.... | 2010-06-14 15:58:00 Author: Nuffles Posts: 132 |
Ok, so I read the Intro carefully to make sure this level was appropriate for me... And I didn't fall into any categories that would be wrong for it, so I decided to play it. Great stuff! Once again, great stickering and objects. It took me forever to realize I could float the flower (by the way, not many know this but I pioneered the floaty gameplay in the bovine antigravity chamber in splat invaders) I need to go back tonight and play on hard mode.... I was too much of a pansy the first time. 5 stars and a heart! | 2010-06-15 01:28:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
So I should have written CCubbage-esque? The flowers are my "uber" floaty experiment using the compression tool. There was something similiar in White Knight Chronicles, but probably no one played that...I could add a speech bubble, "One flower per player, don't rush!" | 2010-06-15 02:48:00 Author: fullofwin Posts: 1214 |
So I should have written CCubbage-esque? Naw.... floating zero-gravity cows to a vertical slaughter chamber is a totally different experience than floating a flower. I could add a speech bubble, "One flower per player, don't rush!" Well, maybe a big grab object stuck in the middle of the flower would help. Hey, at least I didn't give my feedback in the style of Jabberwocky.... that was the most difficult feedback I've ever given. | 2010-06-15 13:06:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
PLAYED One of the best level EVER, only 5 stars because is'nt possible give it more And - EDIT put some random insult at lbp casual community- | 2010-06-15 14:19:00 Author: GEK83 Posts: 163 |
One of the best level EVER Hey, thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed it. The annoying tag is...annoying, because it's top 3...not sure what's so annoying really. Well, maybe a big grab object stuck in the middle of the flower would help. Ewww. flowers don't have big grab able objects on their stem...everyone knows that, sheesh! I think I may add a little waving sign like the no swimming sign at the start, that's more fun. Hey, at least I didn't give my feedback in the style of Jabberwocky.... Yeah, still not entirely sure what you thought of that level. * Played Splat Invaders, now that's the real incongruous adventure! All that stuff when you think it's over and have reached the score board! The bovine antigravity chamber is classic...the hamburgers were great and unexpected...too bad I died messing around...it looked like there was more to see. There's also 2 versions posted...are they the same (I played the one next to the sequels)? | 2010-06-15 15:44:00 Author: fullofwin Posts: 1214 |
Ewww. flowers don't have big grab able objects on their stem...everyone knows that, sheesh! I think I may add a little waving sign like the no swimming sign at the start, that's more fun. You know, if you have any thermo left.... maybe have 2 flowers next to each other, and one floats away as you enter the area as a clue. Yeah, still not entirely sure what you thought of that level. 5 happnees and a ribbleboom (5 stars and a heart) Wow... has it been almost a year? The bovine antigravity chamber is classic...the hamburgers were great and unexpected...too bad I died messing around... If you died at the Bovine Antigravity Chamber, you were a bit more than halfway through. There's also 2 versions posted...are they the same (I played the one next to the sequels)? Both are the same. I originally released it before the cool levels changed, so I wanted to see how it would do on cool pages. Unfortunately, I had the misfortune of releasing it THE SAME WEEK as the original bomb survival craze, so it got lost after about page 5. | 2010-06-15 17:32:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
I lol'd at your level description! I played this a few days ago and it's a lot of fun. I?m glad your moon got struck by a freak energy burst as this level has some amazing things in it which definitely deserved to see the light of day and putting them together has created something beautiful and whacky at the same time. It looks great (which we?ve come to expect from you) and has your trademark novel use of objects and decorations. The jungle section at the start is lovely - the snake is awesome and the frogs too. I also loved the whole underground cave section, including the random monster with very bad manners, lol! The chicken drumsticks just looked amazing! I don't think I've seen any caves like this in LBP before. The gameplay is fun and varied too. I enjoyed swinging on the snake and floating on the flower. The torch puzzles were fun and the underground cavern had some cool platforming. Nice secrets too. I got them all in the end but it took some work to do it. Oh, and I was too craven to hang around in the dark waiting for a grue. If I had done would anything have turned up? I shall be disappointed if you say no! So, yes, incongruous is a very apt word to sum up the adventure but it has bags of charm in its own whacky way and some stunning and original cavern scenery! :star::star::star::star::star: & <3 | 2010-06-15 18:06:00 Author: shropshirelass Posts: 1455 |
Hey, I'm not sure if you changed something, but I was loving it until I got to the part where the flaming platforms fall into the water. They aren't able to fall down far enough to extinguish the fire. You may want to look into that. I will wait on a full review until I can finish it. (Spoiler Alert: it's awesome) Edit: I'm dumb. Let me finish the level now. Ok... **** this level is awesome. It's just ripe with creative a impressive new ways of using the editor, and it's a real visual treat. I only managed to find one measly secret. The use of the chicken wing was fantastic, as was the flower. My favorite part, though, was the snake. Wow. 5 Stars, hearted. | 2010-06-18 14:53:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Ah, some new constituents! Ok... **** this level is awesome. Thanks comphermc, but are you certain you got the right "a" word...you probably meant to say annoying? Glad you managed to figure out that there's an actual puzzle involving the water level...took me by surprise too! I tried to add lots of hints here (dripping water, fire flies, spotlight on rock) but I bet this is the end of the line for lots of folks. You'll be happy to know that the AND and OR gates in this level are from the Logic Pack! Nice secrets too. I got them all in the end but it took some work to do it. I enjoyed seeing your picture uploads and was quite amazed to see that you managed to find them all...at least a couple are rather evil. Oh, and I was too craven to hang around in the dark waiting for a grue. Darn, now you've got me thinking about having a grue make an appearance...too bad I don't know what one looks like. | 2010-06-18 21:34:00 Author: fullofwin Posts: 1214 |
Nah, I assure you that I meant "Awesome." I enjoyed it so much that I went through and played again. I've only found 4 secrets (bah!) but that still only puts you and Shropshirelass ahead of me on the scoreboard. | 2010-06-18 22:50:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Ok. First things first... you're amazing! the snake, jumpin on pollywog heads... the flower... amazing stuff. So good infact it took me like 10 minutes to realize the flower floats! (I really like Ccubb,s suggestion there) I got stuck in the dark not 'seeing', (thank you) an obvious way to proceed.... Still you're one of my favorites, hearts and stars. | 2010-06-19 05:09:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
comphermc - My score doesn't count, you've got the #2 spot. Would be nice if the creator could hide their score or something. Gravel - Those pollywogs have legs...they're proper frogs now! What's the difference between a pollywog and a tadpole anyway? I liked CCubbage's idea for the flower too. The decoration and collected objects thermos are running pretty hot...usually it's the shape thermo that does me in. I did add a sign that I was hoping would help...guess not? I intentionally made the radius for the emiiter large because I thought it looked bad seeing the first flower pop in...had you seen that you'd have probably known what to do? I also wanted a checkpoint in the flower section but couldn't due to the thermo...I gave some thought into a moving checkpoint but in the end opted to make the section a litte shorter. Suprisingly the completion rate for this level is close to 50%... | 2010-06-19 07:24:00 Author: fullofwin Posts: 1214 |
The creator of The Wizard of Time & Space and Fat Chipmunk is back ! :hero: I gotta play this. | 2010-06-19 08:54:00 Author: Oddmania Posts: 1305 |
apparently, largely its regional. In my particular case your world just had my creativity so fired-up... pollywog was fun-ner to say! Pollywogs have a tail... tadpoles have both legs and a tail. I think. Genrally my shapes thermo starts overheating about halfway thru a level... and I pare back from there... Again, stunning visuals some of the most unique I've seen in the craftverse. | 2010-06-19 14:38:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
your levels are really good 5 star!! | 2010-06-19 16:01:00 Author: Iop330 Posts: 40 |
Hey dude I just finish playing your level and first thing I want to say is how you created the underground carver it was so cool. The visualization of the level was not half bad and the creativity and originality were impressive as-well as the torch puzzles it was fun. The platform of the game it was really nice I like it wend it is challenging. The overall score Visualization: :star::star::star::star: Originality: :star::star::star::star::star: Creativity: :star::star::star::star::star: Platform/puzzle: :star::star::star::star::star: I gave your level a :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 keep up the good work Also can you comment on my level thread. You're definitely the king of stickering ! :hero: Seriously, the snake, the monster inside the cave, the statue and its pedestal... Everything is so gorgeous... The way you use decorations and objects is way rad ! And everything else was brilliant too. | 2010-06-19 17:36:00 Author: Oddmania Posts: 1305 |
Lovely! One piece of eye candy after another, but that underground cave is something else, I had NO idea how you made it till I read the thread, and now I'm even more impressed! I love that all the solutions to the platforming are subtle and not overly obvious. The rock at the water is the biggest head scratcher, but Im not sure I'd recommend you changing anything, other than putting an infinite checkpoint there. Personally, I always reckon if you're going to ask the player to experiment with a hazardous environment in an attempt to proceed, it's better to let them do it without paying a price for curiosity. I was down to my last life with no idea what to do next, and wasn't sure if my next guess was going to kill me or give me the answer. Other than that, it's a fantastic level, full of win, in fact! | 2010-06-19 17:52:00 Author: julesyjules Posts: 1156 |
I finally got around to playing this last night and by god is this awesome. I'm still amazed at how unfamous you are (that's unfamous, not infamous, which should mean the same thing but doesn't...). Undoubtedly you are the king of innovative visuals. Every single one of your levels has some ingenious combination of visual elements that I've never seen before - where is the link between "I need to make some caves" and "let's just use some chicken"?? It works, but I have no idea how you come up with this stuff! Overall it's gorgeous, every bit of it looks as fantastic as your other levels and I think this might be your best work so far gameplay-wise. Not to say that the others had anything wrong with them, just this one was a little bit more fun than them. A couple of points - the first ghost guy that you vanquish with the glowy orb - you can bypass him by swimming underneath. I actually did this first time the got totally confused by the second guy. There is also the bit with the snake where if you accidentally jump into his mouth, you get stuck and have to pop, you can't layer shift out of there. I'd suggest blocking that up with invisible matter of some kind, or maybe emitting some gas when the player gets inside (using MGS searchlight) to give the effect that the player got munched. Anyhoos, :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 | 2010-06-19 20:02:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Thanks all for the plays and comments. I've been sitting on some of this stuff for quite a while...glad I decided to do something with it. The snake for example pre-dated water, was going to do a river safari type level tentativly titled "hippo country" and abandoned it when water was announced (never made a single hippo!). Of course very little got used without being modified in some way...the only original piece on the frogs might be the prox sensor. julesyjules - My expectation was that people would initially play on Easy and have all infinite check points throughout the level. If they llked the level they could play on hard for the score after finding all the secrets, etc. It seems that a few people go for Hard on the first play through. Thanks rtm! Shropshirelass told me she did the same thing with the 1st ghost/water...you law breakers...a no swimmng sign was clearly posted at the start. Pre-secrets that water was lethal...I should be able to tweak the ghost so you can't slip by...you can still exit the water on he left so drowning shouldn't be an issue. I haven't gotten eaten by the snake before...I'll have to try it, I hope you uploaded a picture? I like the MGS sensor gas idea...but the invisible gas to stop the plane shift might be better...it's a slow section to have to redo. | 2010-06-19 20:03:00 Author: fullofwin Posts: 1214 |

You know what, I actually completely forgot about the hard/easy lever at the start, which is a really nice touch by the way. My suggestion makes no sense now! | 2010-06-19 20:09:00 Author: julesyjules Posts: 1156 |
Hi- This level was epic! I loved all of the characters and innovative things! One of the things that really blew my mind was using the drumstick in the caves, and the fang/pimple mushrooms, I never would have thought to do something like that! There's a lot of other things on there that blew my mind, I think you truly are a master creator. You have inspired me for my next level. I rated it :star::star::star::star::star: and <3ed the level. | 2010-06-19 21:20:00 Author: X-FROGBOY-X Posts: 1800 |
I remember getting the Monster pack and thinking that pimple decoration was so disgusting I'd never find a use for it. I originally thought I could make a credible stalactite from the red pepper but had trouble with the stem...the drumstick is in the same group and I thought...oooh even better. Either that or I missed lunch that day and was just hungry! rtm - The issue with the snake and ghost should be fixed now. No idea how you got in the snakes mouth, that takes either lots of skill or bad luck and I apparently have neither... | 2010-06-19 21:37:00 Author: fullofwin Posts: 1214 |
Fascinating level fullofwin. You have once again added great visuals to this level [especially using those disgusting pimple decorations as the top of mushroom, an Anime girl sticker as an statue and the drumsticks as stalactites] and the gameplay is good too. At first I had no idea how to get out of the pitch black chamber, but I accidentally grabbed a torch and that puzzle has been solved. Good work. It's as great as your previous level "Fat Chipmunk". | 2010-06-23 22:04:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
