think my disc drive on my ps3 is broke. Please help

| right i'm about to sound really dumb. I've had my ps3 since christmas but i haven't really played it. I got it from a mate who didn't want it anymore for ?200 with 6 games. I tried it out and played a couple of games and downloaded that duck game. Now that i have been playing the beta i thought i'd get into playing some games but when i insert a game nothing happens. EDIT: i can play the games on my hardrive like the duck game and the beta and demos. I have the setting on that says disk auto start. But when i insert a disk, nothing. I'm a ps3 newb, so when you normally insert a disk does it show up a pic on the game section of the dashboard bar where the pics come up for your demos and downloads | 2008-10-09 10:29:00 Author: dorien  Posts: 2767 |
| Disk Auto start I think means that when the PS3 is turned on, instead of going to the XMB will go straight into the game. When you insert a disk and you've got your XMB up, you need to scroll to the game section and select it. | yeah i tried going to the game section and scrolling all the way up and down and nothing comes up to do with the game i have inserted. It's weird. It's not like i'm dumb either and i've had virtually every consoll every made. I'm missing the beta so so much being away for the night. Don't know what i'm gonna do with myself between the beta and full release. | Wow, I thought this only happened to me; turns out it's happened to quite a few people. Well, I phoned Sony customer service and they said they'll give me a brand new one, free of charge. Depends on if you have warranty or not though. The delivery was quick (2 days), but I didn't ask to have my HDD taken out and put in the new one. It might take longer if you want to do that... | Man, i know the feeling. My little brother stuck a two pound coin in my disk drive and even when i didnt play a game there was a loud chomping noise. I looked up on google and found a website that did repairs. You send the console off and they look at it and tell you how much its gunna cost to repair. | My friend had exactly the same problem. Blu-ray discs stopped working (curse the 60GB models) If you have a 60GB, ring sony and they SHOULD swap it for you. | Lets see if I can help. The Auto Play feature or whatever it's called will automatically start a game when it is put in (you don't have to go to it in the Games section and select it). If there is already a game in when you turn it on, it won't go straight to the game. It'll load the XMB first, then go to the game. Actually, I think you have to select it if you turned on your PS3 with a game already in it. Anyways, I have a friend on PSN, and after he got 2.40 update his PS3 no longer read discs. He emailed 'em, and within a week or two they sent him a box for him to ship his PS3 to him. He got it back in about two weeks, and it was working again. Two weeks might be too long, considering the day LBP comes out. Maybe you want to try and find an alternative before thinking about involving manufacturers into this. | First of all SORRY FOR THE DOUBLE POST LOL Just wanted to say thanks for everyone's suggestions BUT I think it's done for and it's maybe off to the LittleBigMenders for my PS3. Tried turning it on and off with disk auto start on and off and still nothing Nothing also comes up on the game section of the XMB no matter how high I scroll up and down. Tried putting in a DVD also and nothing comes up for that either on auto start or on the video section. The PS3 takes in the disks and ejects them fine and when inserted the blue light is on showing that a disk is present but nothing happens So looks like it's F*%**#grr  I'll see if i can send it off Monday (after the BETA ends) to weeee Glasgow if poss and IF it looks like I'm not gonna get it back before the 24th (Bloody Sony,MM or THE RETAILERS. Whoever screwed us in the UK) then i guess there is only one thing or it. Bite the bullet and get a new one as there is no way I'm missing even one second of the start (didn't book the Friday off work for nothing) Then I'll just give the fixed PS3 to my dad as I said before he's a computer nut still at 56 lol | 2008-10-10 18:25:00 Author: dorien Posts: 2767 |
