First Person Shooter - FPS Project

Archive: 39 posts

As you may have seen in this thread: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=28320-Layer-Glitch-Weapon-quot-3D-quot

I started by making a layer glitched weapon, then I eventually built a way to control it like first person, and I am now in progress of making something like an actual level. You can see what I've done so far by checking out my newest level FPS - WIP1.

This is an in-game screen shot with the standard camera tool. I managed to build screen effects by simply placing glass over the view of the player, and I also finally managed to hide the giant box the player hides in (and it was such an obvious solution).

Oh my goodness, that is amazing! This reminds me of Jagrevi's Ama Toor Project using that completely new view.2010-06-13 02:00:00

This is going great! I managed to make the screen blur when I shoot! (It's really just the camera moving, and when it moves over glass, which the HUD is made of of, it blurs.)2010-06-13 04:17:00

It looks amazing, but the movement is kinda annoying and clunky. Your guy hardly moves where you want him too. I don't think you can fully flesh this out though if the gun is 3 layers + glitch layers as you can't make elaborate enemies and scenery D: I'm sure you could make a gun with 1 layer + 2 thin layers with a bit of perspective trickery.

Also, the black border around the gun mucks up alot and sometimes covers the whole screen or jerks around in random directions. The triangle to aim thing is genius though and the shooting effect is spectacular.

Sorry about the movement, that's my biggest problem at the moment, pistons are acting wonky. If I make him move any faster, then the pistons could mess up even more, but I haven't tried yet.
The gun never goes into the background layers, I can add a full layer glitched background and enemies if I wanted. Enemies are the hard part though, I can't use creature brains for them (creature brains seem to break in the glitch layers), and dissolve seems to be the only solution.

I have a few ideas to try for game play though.

Until you see Qugz' level...
I'll try to look at it!

Well, since you use glitch layers, why not use glitch material, i.e. dissolvables? (We're just talking about it (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=28554-Materials-with-different-properties&p=494914#post494914) with level tips if you need some advice on this)

On the other side, the creature brains could probably stay in regular layers, linked via zero strength elastic.

I liked the scope in FPS-WIP1 and the dual SMGs in FPS Experiment 2. Can you see if you can make a bolt-action sniper rifle, just a thought.2010-06-14 23:16:00

Hmm if you want an aiming-down-the-sights system try these

I just had a look at the levels: AWESOME! You really forget you play LBP! Are you having something in mind like an eleborate moorhuhn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moorhuhn) playstyle, or say rail shooter? it could lead to quite a fun level to play, with some cinematic effects I could easily imagine some cool black ops story. besides its generall visual greatness.

Oh and your beach is really beautyful and has a total different atmosphere than the caribean theme itself. Great work there as well.

Until you see Qugz' level...
I looked, and I found that he's the creator of those Maxed Out levels, all of which I have played. What should I be looking for?

He often talks in riddles, I'm guessing qugs is doing something similar to you in an upcoming level.

Rather than making long tedious levels, I think I'll just make multiple small ones.

-Killzone
-Minigun
-Sniping?

Sniping would be epic, sitting on the roof tops and shooting stuff down on the ground

Nice gun, but it looks like you used all the 3 layers. It's going to be hard and tedious doing anything worthwhile using the "layer glitch". I'm planning to make a FPS in LBP2, so I think you have a competitor on your hands.

Here's the link to my idea.
