Materials with different properties?

Archive: 12 posts

Hello, LBPC, i've seen in previous levels, materials that have properties that they normally won't have. Like, metal that is slippery, grabbable cardboard, or rubber that floats upwards. Is there a way i can re-create these? I'm not at my PS3 right now, and i'm in the stages of planning out my level, and if i'm un-able to have these materials, i'm going to have to change some things Sooo, has this glitch been patched yet? Or does someone know how to do it ?2010-06-12 22:15:00

Hi, I used a showcase level published by Sehven (hope that's correct), so you just search in-game (well, in that comunity menu point in your pod) "@Sehven" (that searches for author) and you should find it. It's like almost every material (100 each? )in groups with differing properties, like dissolve, floaty, dark matter and so on.

Though the great things are:
its copyable, the materials are not corner-resistent
great variety and
ABSOLUTLY no glitch-flickering. Nothing, never. It's so cool, I have no idea how he did it. :-)

Edit: Though, that's Sehven's profile @ LBPC (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/member.php?8109-Sehven), but I couldn't find any Infos about that level here.

Btw, this is known as the "cow-glitch" and yeah its been long gone, it was patched more than a year ago.

Thankfully there are amny players and levels with various materials withthis glitch that would be more than happy to share them.

Hope that helps.

Glad I could help. And a huge thank and respects to Sehven from me at this point.

Though I kinda fear that LBP2 will render them problematic but we will see...

"cow-glitch"
Ok, I gotta ask, sorry if offtopic a bit:
...Do we know why "cow" glitch?

Isn't it named after hybrid material found on the MM cow from Boom Town?

that's what i thought.

the glitch itself was when you gassed a material, saved it, brought it out your popit, changed the material and then ungassed it. unfortunately, it was patched some time ago.

I used to have a complete set of cow-glitched materials. Unfortunately my PS3 recently YLOD'd, and I didn't have a backup.

However, I'm still intending to attempt to fix the PS3 for long enough to get my LBP profile off it. In the meantime, you should at least be able to find all basic materials cow-glitched into all basic materials, and the ones on Sehven's copyable level, which are all floaties, dissolve and dark matter.

Oh, like the grabbable cardboard in these meercat bumpers (those with head->jump->stomch->fly)? Can't you get it anymore? And how did one (or two) materials with mixed properties end up in "everything with every property?

Ugh, I hate that name. I don't know how it became the standard name: back when we used the glitch, we all called it the "material glitch," or "material properties glitch."

As for the issue of whether these materials will survive the transition to lbp2, I'm pretty sure they will. They're identical to some of Mm's materials (hence the name "cow glitch" relating to Mm's cow) though I'm sure they didn't have to go through the same glitching process we did. If they don't survive the transition, it will break several Mm objects and I just can't imagine them doing that. Of all the glitches out there, this is the one that I would feel safest in expecting to see survive. (Invisible materials is the glitch I'm least confident about, since lbp2 has some significant graphical upgrades and perhaps even a new graphical engine which may not handle the invis mats the same way).

My collection is nowhere near comprehensive. I'd say I've got about half the pre-mgs materials glitched into dissolve, peach and pink floaty, and I've got a handful of dark matters (mostly just glass). I prioritized dissolve for the sake of, well... dissolving things 'cuz we didn't have one-shot to creature brain back then and demitters were much more troublesome to use. I also prioritized floaty because I was working on a mech at the time that used glitched floaty to make the top lighter and easier to balance.

Good points, I can comprehend your argument. I was just "feeling", less thinking.
