Amazon Release Day Delivery

Archive: 13 posts

I got this e-mail this morning from Amazon.com that they are going to allow you to have LittleBigPlanet delivered to you the very day it comes out for a mere $6 extra:

67

I'm seriously considering doing this. My girlfriend is visiting the weekend before LBP comes out and this way I could play it with her. Anyone else thinking it over?

Nope. They don't guarantee release day delivery unless you physically go to their store any pick it up. If you work 9-6 and don't get home until 9PM, that's hard to do A pre-order just means that they have a copy reserved for you above everyone after you.

Those that do ship it don't ship it for free. Trust me, Amazon would've already been doing this if everyone else was.

By the way, I think I was a bit confused: it's $6 TOTAL for shipping on release day. That's basically the same as two-day shipping. You don't pay shipping plus $6, you just pay $6 shipping and handling, but it includes guaranteed delivery on Oct. 21. So my total cost is less than $66!

I'm changing my shipping speed right now! =D

EDIT: if you have Prime (http://hothardware.com/News/Amazon-ReleaseDay-for-Hot-Video-Games/), you've always been getting release day delivery for free.

EDIT #2: This is cheaper than 1-day and 2-day delivery and only a buck more than standard shipping. Of course, if you did super saver then you wouldn't pay shipping at all and would just take your chances.

I totally agree with THE-FAT. So lame, what a ripoff. Just wait a day... 6 bucks buys you a meal at Wendy's. lol2008-10-10 00:59:00

Actually, it isn't a special "upgrade" that you are required to pay extra for. It is the shipping speed he chose. All online stores allow you to choose a speed at which you want your item shipped, and the faster it is, the more you pay. I preordered LittleBigPlanet from Amazon with one-day shipping, and I got no notice in my inbox about this. It's definitely not an unfair "extra fee".

Yep That was what I was trying to say in my later post on this thread. You probably would've gotten the e-mail eventually: I got mine like 2 days after some bloggers did, which is where I later saw the story upon Googling for it.

Some people have, you know, stuff to do during the day like jobs. And for some people, the store isn't walking/biking distance, so you waste gas after an exhausting day to do what you could've done online in 2 minutes. You may end up paying more in gas than you would (theoretically) save by getting it from a Best Buy or Gamestop with terrible service.

Can get what costumes from friends online? Amazon, unfortunately, doesn't have the cool Kratos costume, but I don't see how you could give that to a friend anyway.

You eat at Wendy's? :eek:That food is terrible. Pretty much all fast food chains have terrible food that's still overpriced. It's only $2 more than the tax you pay in most places, so that gets me two crappy things from the dollar menu? That's really worth it as opposed to coming home to LBP right in your mailbox?

In Seattle, you can't get a good meal for $2, or even $6, unless you cook it yourself or you go to the Internaional District.

Lol @ Eptiger... If you have a full time job, when are you going to be playing this game exactly? And where do you live where a store that has games isn't just a couple minute drive away? Anyways, ripping on people that eat at fast food isn't going to get you anywhere. My point makes sense, yours really doesn't.2008-10-11 00:09:00

I don't have homework so I would say weeknights. Do you have a problem with that? I'm not the only person on this board who had a job. A full time job is only 8 hours a day on weekdays, College was more like 18 hours a day for me

I live in downtown Seattle, so the closest game store is a 10 min drive because of traffic. I don't like most stores that sell games though in big cities because I've just had bad customer service experiences with them. I know there are other people on this board who do not live a 2 minute drive away from a store that sells video games.

I'm not ripping on fast food because it's cheap - I have no problem with cheap food - fast food is just terrible for your health.

Admins: feel free to lock this thread. It's not going anywhere positive, I just didn't like the-fat's attitude. I was merely posting a news story, I didn't post it to have a debate on whether $6 is a fair amount of money to pay for shipping and whether or not I should be playing video games.
