Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

Archive: 26 posts

Well it's out today in the US, and 10 days time for us unlucky Europeans

So have any of you guys got it? It look absolutely amazing and I can't wait to get it. I'm going through MGS3 in preperation for it atm.

IGN gave the game a 9.5 (http://uk.psp.ign.com/articles/109/1095291p1.html) so it must be good!

They're not rumors. Confirmed by kojima production podcast ENGRISH host Sean Eyestone a month ago or probably more. I heard him say it myself. PSN or UMD - you choose. Plus common sense should tell you a PSN release would happen.2010-06-09 20:04:00

Indeed. Or I would sell my PSPGo instantly and snap myself up a 3000.

I am sad though that I don't get to have a physical copy :/

Bump to spread the word of this awesome game and how you should buy it. Yep. Seriously, I've only completed 1 chapter so far and it is AMAZING. The controls are great and this truly is worthy of the name MGS5 it once had when in development (they probably didn't want a portable game being called MGS5 in the end). The missions are good fun, and the amount of stuff to do outside of missions is insane.

Slightly spoilerish to what you can do (not story spoiler though):
You even get to build your own metal gear! which you can then send out on missions with your troops and other vehicles you've recovered

Anyone with a PSP, this is seriously worth wiping the dust off your PSP for. And if you're a MGS fan, well I can't believe you haven't bought it yet! :O

Yeah if you want a game which will last you ages, this is it. I'm over 16 hours through and only on the last mission of chapter 3 (of 5), and then there's still tons of missions to do when you've completed the game. I honestly forget im playing on a PSP while on this.

Seems not too many people in the forums are interested about this one

I just picked up my copy, played for 40 minutes before I had to pick my daughter up from school and plan on playing 2-3 hours tonight when the family is sleeping I never realize how much I miss Snake and the world of Metal Gear until I buy the latest MGS game and this is no exception. The whole MGS mythology is one of my favorite in gaming and I can already tell this will be one hell of a ride. My one and only concern is reviews saying some boss fights will be near impossible without co-op play. Unfortunately I have no one to play with where I live and I will be seriously ****** off if I can't finish the game because of such a silly design flaw (especially because the story in MGS games is one of my favorite parts and the endgame is always spectacular)! Time will tell...2010-06-21 17:24:00

Don't worry, I think the reviewers were just a bit rubbish tbh. I'm on the 4th chapter of 5 now and so far ive had to try a boss 3 times at most. You just gotta take your time and not rush. The bosses can take over 20 minutes or longer. They're quite possibly the most epic bosses in any MGS game though, they're huge! I must be about 18 hours in atm, it's so epic

I've been playing many hours of co-op with this very good dude named Xoealas or something that I stumbled upon in ad-hoc party while trying the demo. I added him and we've been playing the game for many hours. It's very fun but watching him going in alone taking out everything also got a bit boring and frustrating as I too want to play so I've not been on the ps3 for a while. Playing through the story alone first. The official uk playstation forum hang out in world J lobby 50 (europe) - not many of us so hook up on the forums...2010-06-21 19:38:00

I can't use Ad-hoc party cause my PS3 is connected wirelessly I tried to go on VS mode earlier online and there was noone on. Not one game, what's with that? :S I could always get in games on Portable Ops.2010-06-21 20:34:00

There is so much to do in this game that it boggles the mind. Recruit soldiers to build your own army, weapon/gadget/item development + full leveling system, Mother Base management, interactive, ultra-cool comic book style cutscenes, Co-Ops multiplayer, Extra Ops special missions, dozens of insignia to collect, hours and hours of radio conversations to listen to, the list just goes on and on and on.

The way MGS games weave their mythology into real world history is brilliant. I am not really into history but put into the context of an MGS game and I want to know EVERYTHING! Tell me more about the activity of the CIA in Central America. Enlighten me about the bio-diversity of Costa Rica. Edify me with tales of Cold War tactics between the US and USSR. The fact that I can sit in my chair and listen to a conversation between two video game characters for over 30 minutes (completely OPTIONAL I might add) and be absolutely riveted by what they have to say is beautifully absurd! It also raises the question of video games transcending the medium to become art and whether games can actually be educational (in the case of MGS, most definitely!).

Kojima's attention to detail is stunning. Here is a man who has dedicated the last 10+ years of his life to a SINGLE SERIES and every single installment has been met with critical acclaim and strong commercial success. This is a man who is committed to telling a story, who has an important message that he is relaying through his fictional characters for the player to discover and interpret. I picture him as this mad genius who spends his days designing these masterpieces and his nights poring over history books, doing research and considering every little detail of his creations (I do not think the man sleeps...).

So yeah, I am loving the game. Although I have already plaed 6+ hours I am still on Chapter 1 because I keep replaying missions to build my army, level up weapons and and improve my rank for each mission (I am pretty sure there is an isiginia for getting a certain amount of S ranks). Regarding online, I have a wired PS3 and a wi-fi network in my apartment but NO WI-FI on the PS3 itself (still using the 20 gig model I bought at Japanese launch lol) so apparently I cannot use Ad-Hoc Party. Oh well, I am having more then enough fun playing it solo

Woohoo! Glad to see you're loving it. I can't believe how deep it is. It's truly ironic how the biggest MGS game ever is on sonys smallest system. Ive completed all the main missiosn now, and it took me over 30 hours to do so, as i got sidetracked with the ridiculous amount of missions. I've also only completed 47 out of the 128 extra ops missions.
I can't see me putting this down in a long time. And I think it suits the PSP so well, I don't think the experience would be as good on PS3 as its clearly built for pick up and play, though still holds up for hours on end sessions. I just love that I have one of the best MGS games playable at any time, wherever I am

I am on Chapter 3 now. I am kind of surprised that after one regular mission there is immediately another boss battle, I just hope the chapter continues after I beat Cocoon. After every story mission I check to see what Extra Ops have been unlocked and do them immediately. I love the variety of Extra Ops, there are so many different types! After I unlocked Outer Ops and Metal Gear ZEKE I realized this is the best PSP game ever made. This game has so much to offer and although I agree it's suits the PSP perfectly it could have just as easily been a console release, it's just that good 2010-06-26 20:32:00

Indeed Just make sure you don't stop playing when the credits roll. The game just keeps suprising me. BTW have you unlocked the Monster Hunter collaboration thing? You may be able to now. To do so, listen to all of Chico's briefing files (or skip them, but they're worth the listen) so all the !'s are gone. Then go to the first item capture mission, grab your items, but instead of going to the exit go back to the first area of the game (you start in the second area see). Then go along the pier bit. I won't spoil the rest If nothing happens you still need to progress further and unlock more breifing files by chico.

My ZEKE is up and running now and it is awesome I've even told it exactly what to say and everything When it charges the railgun it says 'Imma chargin' my lazorz!' mwahahaha

But yes, easily best PSP game ever IMO. It's just so deep, and I can't see myself getting bored anytime soon.

Thanks for the heads up on the Monster Hunter thing. I finished that Extra-Op a long time ago with an S rank and had no intention of going back lol. Although I probably would have found out about this on GFAQS it's good to know it sooner rather then later I beat Rathalos after 23 mins. Tried Tygrex and literally couldn't move most of the match because he kept knocking me down. I think I will try a circle straff strategy...

I listen to every radio conversation as soon as it becomes available. I love all the extra back story and also the comical conversations that contrast with the more serious tone of what is actually happening in the game world. The conversations with Chico are among my favorite, his obsession with UMA's is pretty hilarious lol.

I finished chapter 4 earlier today and was very impressed (as I always am with MGS games) with how it "ended". The cutscene after the first Peace Walker battle when you are chasing it on your horse was the definition of epic. The chopper battle with the theme song that kicks in mid-way? Dido. Peace Walker battle 2? Took me 40 minutes!!!

Now I am really enjoying doing all the extra stuff, the scope of this game is ridiculous lol. Kaz just told me Zadornov has escaped (very cool) and I look forward to hunting him down

I absolutely love this game! That's the MGS I always wanted for PSP! Portable Ops was good too but I always had the feeling that something is missing. There is only one thing I don't like about it and that is the controlls! I just don't see why you can't move while lying or leaning against the wall...o_O It would have been no problem to add it and I never every needed to lean against a wall.2010-06-29 13:53:00

I actually haven't found myself in a situation where I would have wanted to move while lying down or against a wall. I use that mostly to avoid detection for a while until a soldier turns his back or to get better protection against missiles (though all of the new helicopter attack missions I've unlocked take place in an open field rather than the jungle area of the first one).

Epic game for sure, I still haven't put it down and I've been playing since day 1. I've almost finished the Outer Ops missions and am trying to do all of the optional missions (though for some reason I'm stuck at the paparazzi one, I'll have to check a FAQ to see what I'm doing wrong). Getting all of the A.I. memory boards is going to be a harder undertaking than I first thought so I might have to skip on that, but at least I managed to get all of the MG parts (armor was the longest to get).

My favorite parts definitely have to be capturing vehicles for my army (tank?mon, gotta catch em all!) and the tape messages. Peace Walker battle 2 has got to be one of my favorite MGS boss fights ever, even though it took me about 10 tries to finally figure out how to get its attention. I'd love to know the name of the song that plays during that fight if anyone knows it, I haven't been able to find it on youtube.

Kojima is god, lol.

i remember i would lean against wall and crawl in MGS: PO ... http://forums.qj.net/psp-games/52121-mgs-portable-ops-info-real-control-scheme.html and it seems i remember right...

Oh man Peace Walker Battle 2 is just epic. I was sometimes just in awe looking at the scope of the boss battles on such a small device. Sort of like Shadow of the Colossus on PS2.

Anyway keep doing those extra ops, and find Zadornov!! I haven't tried Tigrex yet (did the first one after a few tries) but I have a feeling I'm gunna get my butt whooped.

Oh and yeah... that bit with the horse stands up there with the most epic MGS bits in the series history. I was just like COOOMOOOOONNN!

While I thought Portable Ops was a decent enough game, I did have serious issues with the controls. There was no way to effectively control the camera, snake and aim well. It was frustrating, and I agree that the game had something missing. You can crawl and move while leaning in PO, but not in PW. But not once in PW did I feel I needed to use it. The games taken account for the controls and tbh they're pretty much perfect.

Haha indeed. Have you unlocked kojima? He's in one of the trucks when you search them in the cutscene xD

Possible spoilers about after chapter 4, don't read if you haven't found Zadornov:
Have you found zadornov again and again yet? keep unlocking them by doing extra ops more. I want to talk about that haha

So I received some tapes from an old friend (I do not want to spoil lol). I listened to them and was completely captivated by "her" story. Wow, just...wow. I really want to play MGS 3 again now that everything has been put into context (in fact, I want to replay every MGS now that the story is complete). I saw that they are porting Snake Eater to the 3DS, I might just have to buy the new handheld to experience that epic game in 3D (I still can't decide if MGS3 or MGS4 is my favorite. Then again, maybe it's Peace Walker!)

Btw, has anyone tried obtaining more soldiers when the base is already full (this includes your Trading Room being full too)? If not, try it (do at about 5 Fulton recoveries in succession when base is full)

And yes Gilgamesh, Kojima IS God lol. Without a doubt my favorite game creator, the man is a genius

EDIT: I just finished the 3rd Zadornov mission, this stuff is too fun. It's like the ultimate version of hide and seek lol. I wonder where this storyline is going... Oh, and I really like bananas

Bananas are the ultimate weapon!

I've tried my hand at playing the tougher A.I. battles, but Peace Walker has way too much health for my puny weapons. I ran completely out of ammo and supplies and could do nothing to stop it.
I suppose that battle was really meant for Co-op. I still enjoy fighting the Peace Walker though.

Also, I've finally found the song :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBUOPCi9sr8
I find the part starting at 1:00 to be really moving.
