The Spirit of Anne-Marie

Archive: 49 posts

The Spirit of Anne-Mariefenderjt
The Spirit of Anne-Marie is a short horror/music level.
So after my level "52 Whitechapel Lane" I have decided to make another similar level.

The story behind the level is about a family who mysteriously got murdered and the only on who survived was the daughter Anne-Marie. She was blamed for her family's death but she knew it wasn't her and couldn't take it anymore so she took her own life. The house was haunted by evil spirits and still are!

Your job is to investigate and to find out what really happened. Beware of the evil spirits as they will try to get you too!

I have included music made by yoda1604 and bigboijb helped me with the ending music.

I have also used scary photos for some of the frames at the beginning of the level too!

The level is short due to the thermo overheating but im happy with the length of the level as I didn't want it to be too long anyway.

I hope you all enjoy this level and I would appreciate your feedback.

Please see photos of level and level below.

Thank you for reading and playing!

I found this on the cool pages on the weekend! I loved it! The atmosphere was brilliant!

This realistic level style of yours appeals to me much more than the pink and blue style.

So thanks for this awesome level! I really hope it gets to page 1!

I got a chance to play this level with fenderjt before it was released, and it was pretty cool!
As we all can expect from fender, it has some great 3D layering and a nice suspenseful atmosphere..
The photo of Ann-Marie looks awfully familiar... I wonder who that is

The atmosphere in this level certainly gave the desired effect and the creepiness of the story was well portrayed. I did feel myself becoming absorbed in the storyline, the only thing that stopped me being totally absorbed was the slight irritation of the bubble popping noises, it was a little distracting!

Good work Fenderjt.

Yeah i didnt include bubbles in my last horror level as it would of ruined the atmosphere but i wanted the players to get points in this one. I know exactly what you mean though! Thank you Icey

Just played this level and i thourght it was fantastic. The visuals are very detailed and i don't usually like the '3D' layer glitch but you used it very effectively, really gives a great sense of depth to the mansion. Atmosphere wise, i don't think you could have done better, absolutely brilliant work.
The story feels very grown up which is often hard to create effectivly in lbp, with it being a cute platformer. My favourate part, however, has to be the custom music especially R.E.M's Mad world at the end, it put a right smile on my face.

My only gripes with the level were it's length and gameplay. Abit to short and not a great deal to think about, but a great level none the less.

Thank you for your lovely comments, im glad you liked my level! Yes i have had the music mad world sitting on my moon for months and i finally made a level i could include it in!

If i had more thermo i would of added more length and game play

I will try my best to play your level but i dont usually have time, thats why i didnt make this a F4F thread

I loved your "52 white Chapel Lane" so i got very excited when i played this one.
Great! Creepy and eerie and yet somehow sad.
The Gameplay fits the Story and it's not too complex, so
it's very enjoyable.

Weiter so! (in english: keep it up)

I saw this while it was a work in progress and its turned out really well. You captured the horror theme well with the design and managed to create a very eerie atmosphere with the lighting and musical choices. Great use of the layer glitch, as ive come to expect, and a good storyline.
Everything goes together really well, so all in all another top level from you Tia Keep up the good work.

Thanks for your feedback. The stains on the bed was where Anne-Marie took her own life, i used blood and didnt realise it looked cheap?? lol

And yes the level is ment to be very similar to Whitechapel lane. I didnt use a template as the house is a lot different to whitechapel

Hi-

I had a lot of fun playing this, the visuals and the music was great. I liked all of the destruction that this level had, such as the spirit that destroyed the bookcase at the beginning. I liked all of the photos in the picture-frames in the level. My favorite part was the ending, it was sad, and very well put together. I have no criticisms, the level was great! Your levels seem to get better and better.

I rated the level :star::star::star::star::star: and <3ed.

Ha this was a really nice level! I spotted it on cool pages originally, the name stood out but I failed to look at who made it. When I found out it was you I just had to play it! Your 3d work was really nice and I enjoyed running around the house. Then I also really enjoyed the thing freakin blowing up! lol I haven't played any horror levels by you before so I thought it was a nice change. Who was it in the house that wanted to hurt me?! :star::star::star::star::star: + <3 2010-06-09 03:11:00

it was really really good! i found it interesting how you made it so that you never really knew what was going on but went along with it.

sadly i had some irritating sisters making noise so i couldnt really enjoy the creepiness of the level, but ill probably play it again!

Really cool atmosphere fenderjt

Loved the sideways setup of the house at the end. Very nice lights in the sunset too.

When I started the level I noticed there's a big block of dm visible holding the start gate and the wall didn't dissolve after the intro. I had to hop on the vase to get out. Not sure if that was intentional.

The books dancing was cute but the ones left from the exploding bookcase still make banging noises when you touch them and there's some random fire bits on the stairs and floor that can kill players.

The only other trouble I had was on the top of the first room there's some layer issues when you go up the stairs. Player shifts between the floating books and the stairs. Maybe some thin gas material (glitch material) could solve that issue.

Gave it 5 stars. Nice to see you finding your design style in this one too.

Yeah I had the same problem at the start when I played again yesterday. The bit your stuck in at the start didn't dissolve and I too had to jump my way out. I could have sworn when I played before it dissolved.2010-06-11 04:10:00

Just played this level, it's really interesting.

The atmosphere is superbly done, and it makes really good use of the layers glitch. I especially liked the parts where things burst into flames, that was really well done. The custom music is a nice touch.

A well earned :star::star::star::star::star: and <3.

Really amazing level. This is exactly the reason I joined here, so I can applaud genius like this. The atmosphere was great and I enjoyed the story too. Yes, it was kinda short but with so much detail I guess that can't be helped. Also, mad world at the end worked really well with this level; I ended up waiting for a while longer to listen before I got to the end. My niece loves scary levels too (she's 10) and I can't wait to show her this tomorrow. Five stars of course!2010-06-11 17:28:00

I was expecting this level to be really scary, as I am a downright wimp. Instead, I found it quite emotional, when the building exploded and "Mad World" was playing in the background. And as I floated away on the little boat, I thought to myself "Wow. That's the only level that's truly made me sad!"

If I used Mad World in one of my levels, would it be copying?

Well done Fender, your skills with visuals & the glitch just get better & better, this looked fantastic. Not much gameplay to be had, but the level is all about creeps & atmosphere which you did a great job with. I think it's easily your most polished level yet.2010-06-12 16:28:00

Another great level from Fenderjt. The haunted house design is great and the lighting really gives you a feeling you're being watched while exploring the house. And as for the end of the level, you added something really cool that I see some radical reflection on the ocean. You put a lot of work on those amazing visuals just like Ja Ja Land and Malibu. Keep it up.

I loved it! I agree, I like this realistic scary style.

It's a real shame levels like this don't end up getting on the cool pages, instead they get pushed away by the crap that is the cool pages now.

EDIT: Wait, it is on the first cool page! Yay!!!

EDIT2: And it's the best level on there!

Another great level from Fender.
And again a few creeps down the spine.
Fender shows again great mastery in the use of the layer glitch, using it to create a great sense of ambience and immersion.
There are little bits here and there that helps the sense of immersion, like the black body bags or the paintngs on the wall.
The story is a little brief, but hopefully this one is only a prologue.
The level deserves to be played with the right pace, since it's a pleasure to look at the tiny details.
A particular mention for the closing custom music, Mad World, that is a very good pick with the right mood for the level.
5 stars and a big heart.

Played this last night. Great level. Very atmospheric. I really enjoyed some of the scare events, especially that "I think I'm not alone in here" bit. The jumpy bits came perhaps a little too often for such a short level though...a storm is stronger after a lull methinks. The end scene on the jetty was astronomically awesome!

Keep up the good work.

I've just realized I played it several weeks ago, without ever having left a comment here Sorry about that.

Particularly as I loved it ! I've never been keen on " haunted mansion " levels, they're often too roomy, but with 75% of its rooms that are locked, that can be unlocked with stickers. I find that kind of boring.

But 52 Whitechapel Lane was probably the first one I liked, so I was delighted to see you had made a similar level

Great use of the 3D glitch ! The books at the beginning made me laugh ! (I guess it's not the intended effect )

And the end is... stunning !
