LBP2 Comedy Shows using the new camera?

Archive: 18 posts

Whilst eating some pie I had a strange idea when the new LBP2 comes out, and yes I know what your thinking, "Why would pie make you think of this?!?" And I have a straight answer; I have no clue.

Anyway, using that new camera, making your own prop's, possibly the voice tool thingamajig, and other elements from the new tool's, you could possibly make a comedy series, or even a drama series if your into that stuff, ETC.

Heck, even use sackbot's as actors!

Any feedback from this?

I certainly think this will happen. LBP creators come from all manner of artistic and technical backgrounds, some of them are budding or even professional directors etc. We already have people making machinimas from the game, so why wouldn't they make them in the game?

The diversity of this game is what makes it so wonderful, and LBP2 is going to push that even further so expect to see a LOT of stuff well outside of the realms of playable platformers

lol, what do you mean why did pie make you think of comedy?
Come on man, pie to the face is one of the most classic comedy moments, that's not even a question.

(Unless you were being sarcastic of course, if so then nvm )

That just gave me an idea. You could make a full re-make of a TV program and record all of the voices by holding your mic up to the TV speakers while it's playing. You'd need 2 TV's in the room, but it'd be pretty cool.

And I might consider making a new account for my Machinima group when LBP2 comes out, so you can either watch the Machinima's in game, or on youtube.

Well, of course the cinematic possiblilities will only expand with LBP2 but I still would say: If you have to work around the fact, that you're creating stuff that others experience via a platforming avatar, you'll might want to give "changing the medium" a second thought. There might be creative tools in other "realms", that may fit better your creative needs. Of course, applying a foreign concept to LBP can be fun and satisfying itself.2010-06-10 10:11:00

If you have to work around the fact, that you're creating stuff that others experience via a platforming avatar,

But isn't this the whole point of LBP2 - that you don't have to experience the game through sackboy and experience it as a platforming game? We already have non-interactive levels that are some of the finest creations around - the only thing holding these genres back is that the tools don't directly lend themselves to it and the narrowmindedness of the community.

Soon we will only have to deal with narrowmindedness... but hopefully that will become less of a hurdle as well.

It will most certainly widen and push those boundaries to somewhere awesome. Will it make me forget, that I play a game on my ps3? Probably not.

Soon we will only have to deal with narrowmindedness...

Let's say I wouldn't be too surprised, to see a somewhat mainstream mtv musicvideo made in LBP1or2whatever in the nearer future. I would however be quite suprised, if LBP becomes the mainstream refence software for generating music videos anytime in the future.

And please, don't anyone missunderstand me: I don't want any creator to leave LBP or abandon a cool idea. Last example: Yes, it is possible to fake a FPS view in LBP, but its painfull (so: a boundary) yet of course it can look awesome and I am curious for any FP view level. If you publish a smooth showcase I'll be impressed, if you also make it an actual fun level to play, you'll be my creator-hero. If you actually want to expand your skills at creating FPSs, I would still say, checking out those HalfLife mods and their respective "creating tools" could be more fruitfull.

And I would presume, FPSs will remain a niche at LBP2. In LBP 13 probably not anymore.

Will it make me forget, that I play a game on my ps3? Probably not.

Let's play spot the difference:
I get a DVD (of an animation series say) off the shelf, put the disk in my PS3, load it up, go through some menus and select an episode I wish to watch, select it, put my controller down on the sofa and enjoy
I get my copy of LBP off the shelf, put the disk in my PS3, load it up, go through some menus and select an episode I wish to watch, select it, put my controller down on the sofa and enjoy

It has nothing to do with what is possible / practical, simply that there is narrowmindedness and prejudice (LBP creations are something you play).

Edit: Sorry, that sentence sounds like I'm saying you are particularly narrowminded. That's not my intent and you seem like a decent guy - it's certainly not meant to sound personal

@rtm: Wow, reading your PS gave me a surprisingly positive mood boost, thank you :-)

And I get your point, I might just be nitpicking about "reflect your medium". Does 2. really happen at your place? Because I never had that. When I put in the game, I want to play, create or get intrigued and inspired by some creations. There might be some narrowmindedness be involved on my account, I have some cinematics among my hearted lvls, but because I like them as LBP levels. I must say I haven't stumbled upon one that i liked "just" because it's such a good short movie. That could mean, I havn't seen the really good ones yet. Feel free to point me. :-D

No, it doesn't happen, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't. I think we'll see more machinima style things with recorded sackbots and voice acting (both of which will improve the quality, difficulty curve and production time), and I don't doubt there will be some quality animation series coming out.

If when someone produces a weekly cartoon (or whatever) on LBP2 that is good enough, I can definitely see myself firing up my PS3 specifically to watch the new episode.

Well, metaphorically I don't see a reason either. Practically, The PS3 remains a game console (it's not a multimedia device, that's an also-ran) and LBP a game or at least something that appeals to gamers and creatives that are into games. But we are not advancing, though let's just see.

A weekly update? Sounds to me like a full time job. But that could just be me :-D I definitly would be curious for your fav machinima. Which should I check out?

<--- just learned, that machinima means cinematics done with a game engine...cool.

PS: Regarding my FPS example above: Remember that layer glitch weapon thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=28320-Layer-Glitch-Weapon-quot-3D-quot&p=493260)? He's got it working. Guess how: By pulling the whole thing in the front layers!
