My game corrupted... weirdly.

Archive: 19 posts

Something weird has happened to my game. Really weird.

It all started yesterday when I downloaded my level "Frostbite" y'know, to attempt getting a decent highscore on it. But strangely, I downloaded it and it didn't turn up in the downloaded levels section. So I downloaded it again, then when I checked the section again there were two. Which is kinda impossible. Anyway I thought nothing of it and moved on.

It wasn't until today that things got really messed up. When I went to try and smash some of Spark's highscores for Poo's contest after a while I spotted that one of the Frostbites started to move across the moon along side the right of the screen everytime I turned the planet. The two that I'd downloaded were still there. So I had on idea why there was now a third one.

After a while of trying to catch the level I decided to zoom out the downloaded levels section. Then I noticed the level also turned up when I entered the Story levels section and the Purchased levels section. Now I started to think. "Ok... What the heck is going on?" So I left the planet and rotated onto the Community Moon. It was still there, now on the right side of the Community Moon. So I went onto My Moon. I was still there, now on the right of My Moon. Then I tried my pod. And it just sat there to the right as if it was a planet. And also everytime I moved the level swivelled through the air in time. Then when I connected to the Community Moon it was there with all the other levels. It was kinda freaky.

So I decided to reset my game and see If it was still there. It was. Sitting on there taunting me! But something different happened this time. I spent about 30 seconds loading, then a message came up: "Save data load failed because the specified file was not found. Retry? Or quit the game and restart." Retrying didn't seem to do anything it just repeated what had happened...

Then I decided to restart my game once again. This time I tried playing one my purchased levels, to see if they were still working. I tried Short Circuit... worked fine. Then I tried to edit a level on My Moon. It also worked fine... So it seemed that only my Downloadable levels page had been corrupted. The Community Moon was the next thing to try. As I was loading up the levels... The same message came up again! So it seems to be something to do with Community levels that can't be accessed anymore. Though I'm glad that my projects are still working and everything I've aced and unlocked is still there.

Seeing as though I don't have any recent backups of my game, (Not since March) Is was wonering if anyone had any suggestions on how I could keep the stuff I've got fro Story Mode, Purchased levels and my projects I'm working on. But at the same time recover the Community stuff? (I don't mind redownloading the levels)

Thanks a ton,
Fastbro

Thanks B3... Its gotten worse now (Somehow?) I can't access any of my saved data anymore. (on LBP) And the theme on my PSP and my connection settings have disappeared! It doesn't even have anything to do with LBP! Is my house built on an Indian Burial Ground or something?!?2010-06-08 17:56:00

Wow.., That sucks Fastbro...
Can you publish your latest levels?
If so, publish them up, and use your old game save. I don't think you can save your aced levels and stuff. Although, it's best just saving your levels rather than collecting everything. You can wait for Taffey to reply though.

Sad to hear that Fastbro.

If the glitch is affecting the XMB as well now, sad to say it probably isn't LBP causing it. It may be your PSP on it's last legs. Call the Taffey-Mobile for more help!2010-06-08 18:57:00

Holy crap! Your XMB? Are you using the Flinstones PSP aka the 1000? The last of those things should have died out a year ago, if you're using one I guess you'll need a new one.2010-06-08 19:04:00

I don't know then... maybe the red screen goulies that infect PSP's have seen an increase in power? Anyways, I don't think the even the godly power of Taffey can fix this one. Contact Sony is all I can say.

The exact same thing happened to me about a week ago, with the double level thing, except I deleted the original when it popped up. I had to kill my data because of it. Yeah...

EDIT: Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention, unlike your situation, I couldn't do anything at all due to the repeated messages popping up.

EDIT 2: I just read your reply that mentioned the corrupted system settings. So, yeah... Same. Creepy, right?

Actually, I have a 1000 and have had it since the year it came out. It is still in great working condition, with only one teeny tiny scratch on the screen. But yeah, I see what you mean. They are kinda extinct now.

And 'Bro, sorry to hear what happened. My only suggestion would be to format the memory stick. It's really frustrating (especially if you download a ton of games), but it should solve your problem. If that doesn't solve it, I think there's something messed up with the PSP.

To format, go to System Settings > Format Memory Card. That's on a 1000, but it should be almost identical on a 3000. Hope that solves the problem.

Ok, I know I said I wouldn't be able to get to this for a few hours but I'll post quickly here anyway before I dash off into a flurry of meetings and Powerpoint slides.

Quite clearly your LBP game data is freaking out, thus the strange loading and level errors you're seeing. Going deeper, it looks as though the PSP itself might be freaking out which would cause the XMB issues. The only reasonable course of action would be to to uninstall and reinstall LBP. This of course will wipe your data, so take a backup (if you can) of your current state profile. If you're having trouble browsing to your profile using your PC, try wiggling the USB cable and lightly tapping your PSP on the palm of your hand. If there's a loose solder point or other semiconductor barf-out this may temporarily fix it so that you can grab your data.

I'm hoping that the LBP install is freaking out other aspects of your PSP, which may be the case, but there's a good chance something deeper is going on with your PSP's operating system and/or firmware. It could be a software problem (like a memory leak) or a hardware problem (loose solder point somewhere). If it's a hardware problem then it's warranty repair time, but that's officially the last thing to try.

So, in this order: back up your current state profile
Uninstall and reinstall LBP, see if it works. If it works, install your DLC and check again. If still working, restore your current state profile. If this breaks it, your profile is messed up and we'll have to go file by file to figure it out, but we'll save that for later.
If reinstalling LBP didn't work, update your PSP's firmware via "network update" and try again
If that didn't work (or you're up to date) do a system restore/reset - there's an option somewhere in the "system" menu for this.

That's all I've got for now. If I come up with anything else I'll let you know. Keep me posted.

In addition to the points mentioned above, it could also simply be a corrupted Memory Stick Duo (and I suspect it is). Have you tried backing up what's left of your data and formatting it?

If it won't format, it's broken. If it does format, put your data back on it and try again.

I highly doubt it's the PSP at fault, since I've seen similiar-ish errors that spread to the XMB, always originating in LBP. Most recently it made the battery indicator flash crazily and glitch up... even after exiting LBP! I've also seen things moving around the moon of their own will, though admittedly not since 2.05.

Try cleaning it and blowing dust out of the memory card slot on your PSP. Sanding the contact points of the card VERY LIGHTLY with fine sandpaper may also do the trick, assuming that's the root of the problem. I wouldn't mess with that quite yet though.
