Ghost of Sparta - The final showdownkn0cked-0ut
The ending of my series, hope you enjoyed it! Get ready for one last fight against the god of the underworld. Lets see if you come out alive...
This level is just a boss battle so if you don't like epic bossbattles you can still turn back, its also not one of those paintinator shoot em up bosses.. i've heard people find it hard but heh.. should Hades be an easy man to beat?

This was supposed to be the ending of my third level but since the thermo didn't want to cooporate with me I was forced to make it into a single level. I hope you enjoy, here are some pictures I took the first 3 days, it didn't have much detail back then, let alone attacks so don't judge on these 4 pictures

I've done endless playtesting to make sure the level won't break, I also had alot of problems with the layers.. All of the bosse's attacks are on the front layer so it was pretty hard to make sure the stuff doesn't crash into eachother. I also chose not to use the standard paintinator because it would look terribly lame in greek mythology.. Hope you enjoy and not get frustrated

WOW. What a great series. I've just played through them all for the first time and i have to say that they are oustanding levels. From the first 1 to the last 1 i can say that i had no problems what so ever. As a massive God of war and greek mytholegy fan your series has quickly become my favourate.

The boss of this level was fantastic to say the least. looked very close to hades from the GOW series and it was in no way a simple challenge to beat. I for one like the fact that you've not used an infinate checkpoint, makes it actually a challenge to beat him.

I have to review this as a series because i played it as a series and i can say that the graphics are very good and works perfectly with the atmosphere. Your use of materials, global lighting and general design are top notch.
The gameplay was never dull and the puzzle's that you used were fresh and a little perplexing. It was interesting to see your creative skills improve as the series advanced. My only gripe was with the final level. Although it was very well made and challenging i would have liked there to by a little more in the way of getting to hades but thats a very small gripe to say the most.

Visuals: :star::star::star::star::star:
Sound: :star::star::star::star:
Gameplay: :star::star::star::star::star:
Overall: :star::star::star::star::star:

This is one my favourate series in the game and i thank you for making them.

Please give my new level a play 'Crystal Forest chapter 4: The mysteries of few. F4F

Awesome boss fight and a fitting finale to your series.

Hades is a boss on a truly monumental scale. His helmet with the flaming visor was great and overall he had real presence and felt genuinely ominous, not to say scary!

I thought your decision not to go for a paintinator battle was spot on. The attacks Hades has and the means to damage him are much more in keeping with Greek mythology, as you said, and make for a much more authentic and exciting encounter. I really liked the fact that the player has to work out for himself/herself how to beat Hades. The boss fight is a more challenging and satisfying experience as a result.

I also loved the two scorpion-like beasts who appear to shower you with points bubbles and you used some cool sound effects and lighting too - when I had a moment to notice which wasn't often, lol!

Epic battle - :star::star::star::star::star: & a <3. Now I just have to go and improve my score.

EDIT: I just wanted to add that I think you're right not to go for an infinite life checkpoint. The level is short and totally devoted to the boss fight so it's really not an issue having to replay a few times in order to learn how to beat it.

Thanks for the awesome detailed feedback I'm glad you noticed some stuff that most people would find normal compared to the boss like the scorpion beasts You have no idea how many sound objects I put in lol At some point I just couldn't fit in more because you just wouldn't hear them, there are atleast 100 sound objects and 30 keys on the bridge where you fight!2010-06-09 06:59:00

Alrighty I played this the other day so my memory may fail me I really enjoyed the visuals, they were beautiful. I loved the boss he looked awesome and the boat with rowing skeleton that takes you away at the end looked lovely. At least I think the boat was in this level.. As for the fight, I thought it was cool, took me a few attempts to get it which I liked. The first set of attacks, when I played it the second one a white light shines and then gas+chains fall down. That always appeared in the same spot. I think it would be nicer a bit more random, maybe it was intended to be that way but I played a bugged version. When you jump on his head for the first hit you seem to fall to death every time. Would be nice if you didn't die guaranteed, or was I missing something? What was the story with the heart? I remember grabbing it and lights coming on but in the end I didn't notice it to do anything, just visual effect?

Great boss fight, I thoroughly enjoyed figuring it out.

Hey I played your level (played the first in the series, got too excited to play the boss, and jumped right to it. xD), and I must say, the boss design is fantastic. I agree, it's somewhat difficult to understand what to do at the beginning, but I managed to find a really easy (and unfair) way of knocking off the helmet.

While he's rising from the "depths of hell" I guess you can call them, if you jump and grab the sponge on his head, his first set of attacks are instantly done and you jump to the second portion. I haven't tried to grab the spike as he rises the second time because I felt that wouldn't be any fun. xD Maybe there's someway to fix this (like have gas on a piston cover him as he rises). Also, as stated earlier, it seems impossible to ace as every time I tried, after knocking off his helmet, I'm stuck behind the spawn point. And after spearing him, I also die every time as well.

Other than a few bugs that you can avoid if you want to have fun, this level is top-notch! Fantastic boss design, awesome attack patterns, ect. It was too enjoyable for anyone to pass up. ;D I gave it :star::star::star::star::star: and a tag of "Brilliant".

I played this level the day i signed up and then the day after I took my friends to see it. I was impressed, very much so. It looked amazing. The sound was very well done. The fight itself isn't what's epic, its the whole set up you created. That said, the fight was alright but lacked an overall challenge. I do admit that when the spirits (i assume thats what the gassy looking stuff that goes up and down is?) started appearing i was shocked and lost the level to them the first time.

Honestly i was too drawn into the vibe you created in this level to dislike anything. The whole thing was stunning, I probably lost a live or 2 just staring in awe

I played this a couple times and I think you got 5:star: each time if i didnt heart you i likely will soon.

F4F: Can you play my bouncy bubble bounce level? its just a quick score challenge

Thanks for the awesome feedback people! I really enjoy reading them and see what I could improve

@oneEyedBanshee

The chain drop in the first wave is supposed to be on only one spot, im not very good at logic and this was a real challenge for me. I was already glad I was able to figure out how to make waves And when you jump on his head to crush the helmet, maybe try jumping a layer to the front if you don't want to die ^^

@Aeroforce22

I noticed the same cheat in the beginning : I just couldn't find a good way to make sure it doesn't happen, but a invisible gas layer sounds pretty good There were like 10 others cheats before; like jumping over the fences, dieing before hades comes up and holding his heart to switch layers. I did make sure you couldn't grab the spine in the first place, and if you want to know Its possible to ace it, but then I have played it a gazillion times!

@Dmack

The gas things are indeed spirits, they are the same as in part 2 and 3 if you've played them. Keep true to the series eh, except for the boatride in the end that was redone.. I'll play your challenge, you can expect feedback in your thread (You've got one right?)

of course i have a thread for it and about the boat ride! when i did the level with other people the boat didn't move, not even a little. I don't know why i forgot to mention that... maybe it was just us being crazy... And i haven't played the rest of the series but i plan to sometime soon!2010-06-12 10:29:00

I cheated on the boss, when he rises you can jump on his helm and immediately take out his first form. The third part was a bit confusing too.
But...

this I can honestly say is one of the most challenging (and epic) boss battles created

SUGGESTION
-sometimes it's kinda hard to figure out what you're supposed to do next and by time you figure it out, you've already died like 8 times so maybe make the instructions clearer
-when the lights come down from the top of the level maybe you could randomize where the "safe" spot is.

:star::star::star::star::star: and...wait for it...<3
