3% Completion Rate

Archive: 6 posts

Today, a level of mine reached 100 plays. It has been completed 3 times. Granted, it is extremely difficult, I had hoped for a far better turn out..

What are good ways to keep players going without breaking the "character of the level"? My level is made to be very cold and unfeeling in nature. I do award points at intervals, provided they work fast enough.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Tell them something interesting will happen at the end? Some players have probably left the level at the end & didn't let their high scores load. A level doesn't have to be very difficult for most to not bother finishing I think.2010-06-06 11:04:00

I think Mistervista meant that you should make your next level easier.2010-06-06 18:05:00

Put points in! Lots of points. The harder the level, the more points needed to make it fun, IMO. This encourages people to beat their highscores. Don't deliver points in huge rows - put them in in groups, so players have to string points together to make combos. Little triangles work well, or you can dangle diamonds from the ceiling. You can also put a race in with a ridiculously high time limit, so players get a large score bonus after that. Once you've put lots of points in, encourage people to beat their highscore in the level description, and if the level is fun enough they will every now and then try to beat it.2010-06-07 13:06:00
