Sarcasm

Archive: 13 posts

I think one thing that could make this forum better is if you could sarcastically thank people, which would, for someone you have thanked, remove it, and for someone who you haven't thanked have the opposite effect of thanks. That way, if you, for instance, had started a help thread and weren't getting any help, you could sarcastically thank all the people who didn't help you.
And, no I'm not saying this out of bitterness because I did end up getting help.

Like the ability to deduct reputation from others?

We had something like that, but removed it recently, and good riddance as far as I'm concerned. By it's very nature it's a very negative thing and as far as I am concerned, it was often used in quite a malicious manner - it's basically a stick with which you can beat other forum members. If someone has done something wrong, you can report them.

In addition you can remove your thanks if you decide to, using the link that says remove your thanks

Yes I know about that, but what if there was a thread where all the responses weren't insulting, but completely unhelpful and repetive, etc?2010-06-04 01:39:00

I think the vast majority of the time, a thread will get positive helpful responses. In the extremely rare case when a thread receives no helpful responses, it's probably due to a vague question being asked or something that has been asked a thousand times over.2010-06-04 08:23:00

Sarcasm has its place, but this kind of forum is not it. I think if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. I wouldn't support this idea. Sorry.2010-06-04 08:32:00

I dont think this would go down very well. We can thank sarcastically by going:

Thanks..... or Thanks A LOT!!!

I also agree. A down-rating system is not a good thing, and I'm happy that this forum is free of one. from what I've seen, it only forsters bad vibes and misunderstandings. Not to mention it enables cyber-bullys. The type of player that makes liberal use of the "rubbish" button, and considers LBP as one big slap-fest. I REALLY don't want that sort of thing here.

One thing I miss about the old system is, there was an option to leave a little note with your thanks that would appear along side of the thanks post notice in your profile.

Ya i made a thread suggesting something similar (a "disagree" button) and wasn't really liked, so i don't think this will be passed either, as its basically the same thing and the same points being "It would bring too much negativity."2010-06-06 07:10:00

okay, maybe not negative rep but a separate " "Thanks" " section after the "Thanks" section?2010-06-07 04:20:00

That sounds like a very good idea, would probably cut down on worthless posts of people simply going 'no' or various forms of such. I'd definitely support that idea.

I too would support this.

Probably to my own detriment...
