In Search of Idols by Coxy224Coxy224
Travel to a distant rainforest/ruin and try to score as high as possible with a single life! Find as many idols as you can, and grab them for more points.
Ok so I've finally managed to complete and publish a new level, and this one is very much in the same vein as Cave Of Legend so if you enjoyed that, you'll love this (hopefully).
A huge open world, with many directions to traverse within and thus more oppotunities for points. This level is my biggest and most open so far. Think Cave Of Legend with more spaces to explore and more challenging platforming.
If you can find the red dissolve switch, more points will drop into the level and you can continue further.

This is a full survival challenge, so hopefully you'll all enjoy. Feedback would be nice, and I'll be doing all the F4F I can

playing it right now!

Edit:

... hard one! (third try... )

Ah multiple paths! I like that but its very hard to get though some of them. (starting fifth attempt)

hmm at my sixths playthough i didnt get the bubbles from the first idol (on the left)...

Ok i am just trying to see the end now... going for the highscore later

Feedback so far:
-nice looks, challenging, cleverly hidden secret areas
- what does the red button do?
- i saw the floor at the editor at the point where the ground shoots you into the spike. Whqat does the grappable circle in the backlayer do? (except letting you fall out of the level)
- first i thought you should let the player start from the beginning when he dies. But now i think its a good idea to do it like you did cause the player wont have to ragequit (but some will anyway )

Nice level! Trying a few more times now... (5 Stars and a heart btw)

Ok now i know what the red button does...

Coxy you are one evil person!!!!

I got really far (I think), found an idol and died while trying to get to my bonus bubbles...

Nice bubblechains btw.

Ok i cant go any further... i did 12 runs now...
I passed that shooting platform, grapped a red thing in the left corner, found the idol above and thats it. I really wanna see someone finish it! Video JKThree?

Really nice challenge! I love this kind of levels but i would understand if there are people who hate this level

- what does the red button do?
Red button activates the opening of one door, which I tried to make obvious by making the mag. key switch and mag key visible

- i saw the floor at the editor at the point where the ground shoots you into the spike. Whqat does the grappable circle in the backlayer do? (except letting you fall out of the level)
Whoops, didn't notice you could grab it and fall out. Once you've grabbed the red dissolve you can use it to get to the top of that section and get more score bubbles that have been released

- first i thought you should let the player start from the beginning when he dies. But now i think its a good idea to do it like you did cause the player wont have to ragequit (but some will anyway )
That's the aim, and also I wanted it to feel like a survival challenge with a twist!

Nice level! Trying a few more times now... (5 Stars and a heart btw)

Thanks for playing, and also the feedback is very much appreiciated

P.S. Is that you in your signature photo? If so you look scarily like my Biology teacher...

I'll play that ASAP...
No it's not me.. although I would like to meet your biology teacher

Hello Coxy!!

Wow!! I really loved your new level. It was beautiful. I looked at the stickers you used and saw very few. I really dig a creator that can use materials and level design without using many stickers, and make things look spectacular, and you did just that, Great job!!

Okay, this is my kind of level. Bubble chains and platforming. The only catch is..... one life!! Very cool. It almost felt like a survival challenge, almost.

I really enjoyed jumping and swinging through your wonderful level. Looking for the idols was a blast and very rewarding too (I have high score!!).

You did an excellent job on this.

I gave you five stars and a heart. I have you hearted as creator already..... I think, I will check to make sure!! <3

I am so glad you made a new level for psp!!

Thanks for the feedback Velco, much appreciated and I'm glad you liked my levels. I've found little use for stickers on PSP because they're not quite as effective (they don't go on the sides!) and also I can corner edit and manipulate the layers to give more depth than the stickers can acheive.
Anyway, thanks, it's really great to hear such commentss from accomplished creators (I loved Tera Cota and Timber Canyon).

Thank you again <3

OMG! I just knew you were going to say that!
When I saw you posted again on this thread, I was like, "I wonder what Velcro posted about....he already left feedback.."

Haha, don't worry, hearing that this level is challenging, I probably won't beat it...

I just gave it two runs right now, and im here with feedback
First off the scenery in this level is amazing!Great use of materials.
Looking around for bubbles was a blast, jumping around past spikes was tricky especially with the glass but still fun
I think I found a good chunk of all the challenges.
But when I got to some red block thingy I was lost(although I did get the bubbles),so I decided to head back then was killed
That was only my second run though so i'll be heading back to try and find them all.

It's great to have a new level from you on the PSP side of things Coxy! I remember that your last PSP level came out right as I was publishing Now and Then (my first level), so it is sort of nostalgic to be getting a new one from you!

Since I am a judge for the Survival competition, I am refraining from playing any of the levels before judging because I want them all to feel fresh when I am playing them for the first few runs to rate them. I am very much looking forward to giving this one a play.

Welcome back

Okay Coxy here's my feedback:

I loved how the level was an open world, plus the fact that it was a survival sort of thing. There were nice visuals here and there and nice corner editing everywhere. This level reminded me of Xenon's level. I have played through this level over 10 times, just trying to get the idols and all the point bubbles.

This was a very hard and challenging level. I can see now why this level would make some people mad. But, I liked it. Fun and challenging are two great aspects to put into level. I never wanted to give up playing until I reached Velcro's score. Sadly, I couldn't beat it. That's another win for you Velcro It must have took him some hard work and dedication to get that score.

This level was very open so I was really confused on which way to go first. I gotta hand it to you, you're very good at making levels that have a lot of space for people to roam around and have fun. The obstacles were somewhat unique. I had no problems with the level at all, except the fact that is was hard. It was an all around great level.
You got 5 stars and a heart. Do you think you can leave some feedback on "21st Century Meltdown"? I would like to see what you'd think of it.

Hey coxy,
this is now one of my favorite levels. Its challenging, fun, greatto look at, and has really good point bubble chain thingys . I actually got past velcrojonzes score(after 12 tries ) but when I died Ifell to second place. anyways I loved the level and I gave u five stars and 2 hearts. One for the level and one for the creator. O! And for the red bump thing that adds more bubbles you could maybe add a speech bubble explaining what happens that triggers when u grab.

Hi Coxy,

I hope you feel very special - this is the first feedback I've left in an absolute age. I think this is a really neat concept that you've pulled off very well. I admit I was a little unsure about whether or not it really could be considered a survival challenge, but I can see how it's true to the style in surprising ways. Principally, I like the way that the level of difficulty increases as you progress along each of the routes - the pacing is definitely different from a standard platformer and seemed to be just right for the survival challenge theme.

The visuals are great, they seem very clear and deliberate without being overly fussy or distracting. Unfortunately I'm kind of terrible with high-tension platforming so I haven't scored very highly yet, but the multiple branches really make me want to try again and make sure that I have at least got everything that I am capable of ^_^.

Okay, I've already played this level awhile back, but I never got the time to give feedback.
Now that I'm not anymore, it's time to give it!

First off, I liked the whole theme and setting of the level. It takes place in some jungle looking place.
Don't know how to explain, but it was cool. The level was very challenging and I tried to make it on the high score list.
Although, each time I got far in the level, I happen to die.
Dam, this level is very challenging and addicting.

Not only the level was fun, but the design of everything was fun.
If you had a level with a fun play, but crappy design, I would've hated it. Though, that's not the case.
So playing this massacre of a level was just as fun as watching the design. I liked to see what each path lead to, but they all kind of lead to one place.
That one place it lead to, for some reason is the place I was die at. I never made it to the end of the level, but I will reach there one day!
Or does it go back to the beginning at the end? Anyways, when I have the time, I'll give this level a go and try to beat it. (And not die 20 times)

There was so many point bubbles, so collecting them was fun, but the challenge was to collect them without dieing.
I found places with score bubbles I didn't want to risk. There are so many spikes in the level.
You have to be quick and careful in this level and avoid the spikes. It was an intense level to walk about.
I wondered how the level was to be. (I still haven't beat it )
I won't rate you on length since I never got there yet, but I will say the fun never ends for me here.
Until at least I beat it.

The materials used were okay. I've seen better, but your materials worked out fine.
Collecting those Idols gave you a lot of points, but I only collected 3 so far. I never got far enough to find the rest.
There were lot's of vines and sliding. Did I mention lot's of spikes? You really have to be quick in what's coming to you.
Anyways, I'm going to rate you now...

Length: N/A (Dang, I would rate you here, but I never reached the end. )
Creativity: 5/5 (The whole thought of this level was just remarkable!)
Corner Editing: 5/5 (The corners were sharp and well put)
Theme: 5/5 (I remember seeing a place like this, not the jungle part, but lot's of thorns/spikes)
Story: N/A (No story, of coarse, I don't rate much people here )

Total: 15/15
That's a perfect score 15/15. Which deserves a 5 star :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart <3
Until we meet again,
-Spark

Hee, hee. I'm a judge too but have a different attitude. I LOVED this level it was joy to play. The gameplay suberb and challenging. I've haven't managed to reach the end... yet. But I refuse to stop playing until I topple VJ's highscore! :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart.

Your Cave of Legend was great, but this new level is even better. Lots of routes, lots of deaths, tricky sections... It's great how you designed the level, making the player think about the best routes, and ways to get the maximum bubble chain. It's a clever design. Congratulations for yet another great level. It's a nice idea for a survival challenge, where only the most adventurous players will get the high score. Addictive.2010-06-04 19:18:00

Hi Coxy! I had a lot of fun with this level, I don't think I've ever played a level over so many times in the first day of download as I did this one. I really like the unique take on a survival challenge. The process of "explore->die/learn for next time->explore further" reminds me of the old hardcore sidescrollers where you had 3 lives to get through an entire tough game, where the only progress made is due to dying repeatedly and memorizing JUST the right timing (Contra series anyone?). Having grown up on such games, I really liked that you found a way to recreate that feeling in LBP.

Lots of fun, I'm sure I'll keep coming back to shoot for a higher spot than #5 on the scoreboard :-p

Thanks for creating and sharing such a unique and well-executed level! I look forward to more!

Hiya-

I've never played a level from you before, but I am very glad that I did now. This is a very addictive level, I think I played about 30 times just simply trying to get to explore all of the areas. The visuals were really nice too, the corner editing was spot on. It's also very hard, but I love tough, challenging levels such as these. Even though I plsyed many, many times, I eventually gave up and got a little bit over 3k.

I rated it :star::star::star::star::star::star: and <3ed.

Hey Coxy, I have been particularly busy lately so somehow I missed this level. I downloaded all of the other entries but in my haste must have jumped past yours. I finally played today and it is great. This is a very interesting take on the survival level theme. I truly felt overwhelmed when I started because there seem to be so many paths to take that I want to go down all at once, I have this problem in lots of games. I will backtrack and get indecisive, but it makes exploring that much more fun. I don't know how deep this goes, but at this moment I am doing terribly on this level (still terribly fun). You very much deserved to win that competition and I would like to congratulate you. 5* from me and a heart. Keep these levels coming.

@frogboy... You like the level so much that you put 6 stars? O.o (lol)
