Anyone got tips for secret agency/ and or military base building?

Archive: 16 posts

For one of my levels i'mm building this "secret organisation or military organisation building, and i was wondering if anyone knows what i could use, (color schemes, materials, decorations, and any other details) because i really suck at these style of buildings, every time i try to build one they look rather plain and newbish.

So any tips?

(By secret agency i mean something like MI6/ CIA and those agencies or any fictional "Spy agency" or "secret organisation" and that kinds of stuff)

The setting is an agent walks along with sackboy briefing him with the details of certain incidents while they walk along a hall (With some cutscenes, but those are taken care of) then they reach a briefing room where they tell him what to do and why, and finnaly he leaves in a sort of lift to his mission, that's where the level ends.
(Its not much of a level, rather a prequel explaining the why of the events on the level series)

All help is much appreciated!

Try twin towers with glass windows every block-floor or so. It could have a bridge to the other tower, and the towers should (excuse me, it's 2 AM and I can't think of some words ) grow less wide.2010-06-02 08:16:00

I'm sorry but i do not understand what you're explaining here.

(Btw, like mentioned above, the whole thing happens "inside" the base, at no time do they actually step out.

I'm just wondering for tips on "how" to build the military/ secret agency "theme", m8.

Yaru, add me and I'll give you something I never really finished. You can then use that as an example.2010-06-02 09:02:00

For the one army base like building I made I used primarily the MGS metal, cardboard materials and insert glass hexagons as windows. Check my CC10 level. I forgot the name, but it has a little submarine on the level icon.2010-06-02 09:18:00

Hmmm, if it was me I would make the building mostly very dark grey with some silver details for the colour scheme.

This is just a thought but it would be cool if you were just walking along the front layer and used the middle and back layers to have some experiments going on in some rooms, maybe an explosion or two to add some humour

Also random blinking lights always make things look important and technical

Ah yes MGS materials makes sense.
I'll go check your level to see it in person.

Brushed stell from Incredibles pack works reeeally well, and so does narrow little pieces of VR materials from MGS (you just see the borders so it looks like a neon line). Also, try having a gekko-skin-topped-with-some-kind-of-metal floor - that's usually quite effective.2010-06-03 01:53:00

Oh yeah, i think i've indeed seen the gekko skin + other materials combination in some levels, it does indeed looks good for that style too, tho by "little piece of the VR material" you mean thin lines of the VR metals?

Try placing little moving cameras in hallways to kinda bring out the SECRET part of it.
Cameras that move always freak me out cause i think they're watching me....

Oh yes of course, a good security system would indeed be needed now that you mention it!

Put the secret service's symbol on a huge wall and light it up using moody lighting. Or you could put it on a door. Or a mug ...2010-06-03 13:17:00

Maybe do something that looks like an innocent building except for some clearly visible 'fishy' parts: moving cameras*, mowing cameras (to add the humour in the form of a pun), lots of computers, large locked metal doors, the organization's logos*, large radio transmitter on the roof, etc.

*mentioned before
