Online Backup! sort of :/

Archive: 5 posts

Many of us have been the victims of the dreaded corruption bug, some of us more times than others, I've been lucky to only catch it once, but it is a real annoyance! Most people have backups in my moon, but what happens if you get the profile corruption bug. Other people have data backups on their computers, but that is an awful lot of hassle and fiddling for people (like me) who know nothing about computers and will probably destroy their profile anyway if they try to fiddle. I recently discovered that you can have insecure online backups! If you publish any level (non-copyable) then go online and download it again, it gives you the option to copy the level to my moon! I had lost two reasonably good levels that I was going to enhance and make better, but I couldn't until I found this out! The only downside is that other people can download your partially completed levels, but you could always do a lock like ali's unamed level to stop other people seeing what your making. Or you could just place the start in a hollow square that the player can't get out so the level is only useful to you. Hopefully this helps stop the amount of great levels lost to the bug!2010-06-01 10:27:00

Being able to copy your levels from the downloaded is nothing new by the way, but thanks for reminding all of us!

Thanks for starting a thread about this. Although some people know about this it's not exactly easy for newer folks to find out, so this is very useful information indeed.

I love your idea for putting the entrance checkpoint in a pit of some sort to prevent people from seeing your level in progress - genius! I would have constructed an overly-elaborate combination lock that was annoying to solve every time I wanted to play the level. Very nice.
