POTC torches/Candle Flames

Archive: 7 posts

Does anyone know how to get these? The torches are an object in the POTC levels but it's not an official bubble prize and I can only assume these are glitched into a savable item through some method. I tried changing the materials attached to dissolve, but that didn't work.

And also, a quick follow-up, does anyone have a link to the tutorial on how to get the flame from the candles off? And is it still tweak-able at that point?

I thought this was possible, as I've seen both the torches and the flames in other people's levels and I was wondering how this may be achieved.

Thanks in advance!

The torches are in a prize bubble in the PoC pack. I'm not certain which level they're in, though.
With the candle flame, just select the flame and copy it. The flame can't be tweaked after removing it.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, the torches are decorations, not objects. That may be why you can't find them in your Popit.

Take note - the flames copied from the candles cannot be delete once placed. If you need to remove them, you need to remove what ever surface they were placed onto.2010-06-01 06:01:00

Sure they can. You just have to do it right. To start with, place a candle in the map and then capture it (yes, you're capturing the plain candle without having done anything to it). Delete it and place your captured one. Now you can select the flame and instead of clicking L3 to copy it, you can click Triangle to remove it from the candle and you can place it anywhere. Once placed, it'll still be removable and you can still tweak the candle and have it affect the flame. So, if you wanted to, you could keep the candle object hidden offscreen somewhere and hook a switch to it to control the light coming from the flame (like a speed switch to control its brightness). You can L3 copy the flame at this point, and the copies will also be removable, but they won't be tweakable. If you delete the candle, it'll take the flame with it (that is, the one you removed, not any L3 copies).

There's actually no reason to use the original flame from the candle unless you want the light to stay tweakable. Otherwise, you can L3 copy the flame of a captured candle and it'll still be removable.

Awesome! Thank you for that!

Thanks to both of you! This is exactly what I wanted to hear... There's a portion of my level where you fall down into a pitch black pit, cue the match light sound effect, and a nearby candle "bursts" into flame, which sets off a mysterious (ingenious?) chain reaction of lighted candles down the hallway of the ancient REDACTED ahead.2010-06-01 21:08:00

That sounds pretty cool. You'll probably need to emit the flames, though. I'm pretty sure the candle flames still show up in the dark even if they're turned off (they just don't cast light on anything else).2010-06-01 22:43:00
