Easiest way to set "noches" between MK and MKS?

Archive: 6 posts

What I want to do, and what I've tried to do many times before, is control something (either a piston speed or light brightness or something) with a magnetic key switch based on the proximity of the MK, but with preset "notches" if you know what I mean. For example, I might want to hook a piston up to an MKS and have the player adjust the speed by dragging a sponge with the MK on it closer/farther from the MKS, but I want it more precise than that - the ability to set a certain number of spots along the path.

For a more specific example: say I want to set 4 spaces to drag the MK sponge along and mark them so that the player can accurately set the piston's speed to 2, 4, 8 or 10 sec. with notches every 10 units. How would I best do that? My goal is to use as few logic tools and as little space as possible, to set up multiple "sliders" like this and go easy on the thermometer.

One way would be to have four pistons attached to the sponge and each triggered by something, each piston extending 10 units to bring the MK closer. This takes up a chunk of room, however, and with multiple sliders, I end up trying to manage over a dozen pistons.

I have a few other concepts, but no genious ideas yet. If anyone has anything, help is loved! Thanks.

I think I know how to, but it's too hard to describe. I'll make it tomorrow and send it over.2010-06-01 03:45:00

You should be able to ue the following for the dragging of a block:

Alright, I see how that would work, and it's practical in some cases, but it still takes up quite some space, considering the need for an additional winch for every desired notch, plus there would have to be one switch per winch, times however many sets of sliders I have... plus I would have to either explain how the switches work, and only let them use them in the correct order, or have the player see the winches/pistons, but I won't go there.

I'm still looking for something more manageable in terms of space. The space is more important to me than going easy on the thermometer. If the player can enter this room, recognize what's going on and set each of the sliders (there will be several) to the notches they want without taking too long to understand how everything works, I'll be happy.

I found a few ways, but none of them are smaller then your original idea.2010-06-03 02:05:00
