Editing the HUD

Archive: 24 posts

What do you guys think of editing the HUD?

Being able to add a lifebar, or maybe a crosshair if you're talented enough to make a FPS level. But then again, Some of it might interfere with the actual HUD.

Good idea? Bad idea?

I think you can do that stuff with the new holographic material.2010-05-31 20:36:00

Yea, holographic material can make the HUD, though I'm still thinking what else it could help with...

Can I have a link to where this was revealed? I'm failing to understand if it's a proper HUD or if it's just a piece in the level that follows you around with thousands (or one microchip) of wires flying everywhere linking up to point bubles?2010-05-31 23:22:00

It was only a a part of LBP2 rumor before annoucment, still not officially announced or showed by MM

Life bar...? Crosshair...? FPS...?! DON'T RUIN MY CUTE GAME :<!
I LOVE Fps' very much, in fact, this is the first game i've played in a long time that hasn't been an fps. But I think that turning LBP into a FPS, or even having a different HUD, might ruin the game a bit.

@BS58QW: It's only a suggestion, i don't think it's actually confirmed.
@EvasiveSpoon: I stopped thinking it was cute when you could tear Dumpty in half D: (Only kidding) It wouldn't really ruin the entire game, i mean, not all the levels would be from a first person view.

I certainly hope so D:! But it would be interesting seeing Sackboy/Sackgirl shoot down sackbot zombies 2010-06-02 04:25:00

You know, LBP2 is "a platform for games". Not every game is an FPS. Else, just evade those community levels and you will be fine.
Why that tiny red font anyway?

I think I read somewhere that it's confirmed (feels like an official source), but can't be 100% sure. 2010-06-04 11:23:00

It would be good to be able to properly change the HUD, but i can't think of many possibilities. A map, ammo and cross-hair are about all I can think of- unless if somebody could make a phone system where a person 'calls' you and tells you what to do rather than magic mouths. But that's more of a gameplay feature than the HUD i suppose2010-06-04 21:35:00

ha
actually making a FPS is quite hard, and even harder if you want to make it good, so don't worry. I myself are only planning to make one FPS level , i've already made one on LBP1 and with the new tools in LBP2 it will be much eaiser and I have already planned it out, i just need the game to, you know make it.

Read the "What we know so far" thread, you'll find it there.

A player can even customize a HUD. The example given is a health bar for a fighting game. (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=26555-What-We-Know-So-Far)

I think you guys talking about fps levels are assuming a bit much. Nobody knows yet whether they'll be possible to do or not. Everybody seems to think we're going to have much deeper camera controls, and I'm sure we will to some extent: for cutscenes if nothing else. But they haven't said anything about being able to turn the camera a full 90 degrees. That's not to say that we won't be able to; just that we don't know yet.

We also don't know whether we'll be able to turn sackboys/bots on their sides and have them run on the back wall. I really hope we can, but nothing has been said and the closest we've seen has been sackboys riding vehicles in direct control seats.

And we haven't heard anything about giving each player their own camera in multiplayer, either. It would be nice and it would certainly make race levels work better, but nothing has been said. If we can't, then any fps level would be limited to one player only, which, in my opinion, equates to a broken level.

Sorry to rain on people's parades. I'd just rather not have you get your hopes up and then be angry about the "false advertising" when lbp2 comes out.

Split cams = split team spirit. Only for races sez I.2010-06-06 19:08:00

I like the idea of split cams. Even with the shared camera we have now people still go in front without you and you end up dying so i'd rather have split camera and not die if someone runs off without you than having a shared camera and dying if someone runs off without you.

I kind of like the split cams idea, too, but for a different reason. I would also like it to be something that can be enabled/disabled by the creator rather than something that's always on. I think it might be cool to have two players take two paths to a boss, for example, to get him in a pincer attack. Or you could have something like in MGS2 (I know: the worst of the MGS's) where Raiden and Snake were working on defusing bombs separately, only now the Snake character is another player instead of a plot point. For example, you could have a ring shaped level (sorta' like the big shells in mgs2), with objectives that need to be achieved in each section and a time limit in which it needs to be done. If the game detects that you have multiple players, the time could be cut in half and the players would have to split up to get to them all. Maybe this is just coming from the fact that during that whole sequence I kept wishing I could play as Snake instead of Raiden.

Along with that, an option to look in on the other player would be nice too. If he gets stuck on his puzzle, he can ask for help and you can click your camera over to his and offer suggestions. That sounds like I'm asking a lot, but I'm pretty sure that it would be achievable though logic and cutscene cameras that we already know about, so all it would really need to work is the split camera option.

The cams COULD be useful, but definately not split by default.
I still likes a nice team vibe in my games

Actually there is a IGN preview of the game where they talk about a racing level/game in LBP2 where the camera goes behind the sackboy in his kart and gives it 3rd person kind of perspective so that races become more tense. I'll try find it so I can post it.

EDIT:Here (http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/108/1088513p3.html) is the link, its on the first paragraph of the 3rd page.

That paragraph surely answers some of the questions about top down, first person, gravity from front to back (etc etc) speculation that people are so enthralled in...

''Even more impressive, once on the caterpillar, the camera flipped to an over-the-shoulder view, giving an into-the-screen perspective as you race against two Sackbot opponents - it's all a clever illusion though, with the action still technically built on a 2D plane...''

I think there will be a split-cam coz in the Qore interview there is a game play trailer-ish part where it shows one sackboy (probably the host) going far from the others and it shows that thing where the other players are and there doesn't seem to be a counter on it.2010-06-08 18:44:00

If you want to see an example of the HUD here is a video...
its in the bottom right hand corner the entire time and for a second shows a text box.
