Modnation Racers - Worth ?40?

Archive: 21 posts

Hey there!

I've been considering getting Modnation Racers for PS3, and was wondering what you guys who have played it think.

You reckon I should go for it?

Thanks!

I reckon MNRCentral is where you should ask this.2010-05-31 17:43:00

I think that's exactly the place where you shouldn't ask considering that there will be few who don't like the game. It's just like going to an LBP site and asking whether LBP is any good.

I've been thinking of getting it myself but no way would I pay ?40. The only game I've ever paid that for is LBP and even though it's worth it I wish I hadn't because one week after getting it on launch day the price came down to ?17.99.

While MNR may be similar in that it copies the 'play, create, share' idea it's nowhere near as deep.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I mean, I've played the demo and it's good, although I'm not sure I want to pay ?40 for it, as whatever way you look at it - it's a lot of money.
(For me, a college student, anyways) I was just wondering if there was more behind the demo...

Yeah, its not like the answer is gonna be influenced by the fact that everyone there is most likeley a fan of the game and most likely say its definately worth it, right?

Have you tried the demo?

I, for one, liked it but yeah... it isn't very deep. Fun for a while, but really what do you do next?

I just rented it. The demo was horrible, but the game itself is worth it

The demo is an EXTREMELY poor representation of the game. For me MNR was well worth the money, it's one of those games that just keeps on giving. There is so much to do and so much freedom to create the perfect Mod, Kart and Track. If you love LBP you will probably love MNR 2010-05-31 19:56:00

GET IT! Really, at least if you like CTR or mario kart or any of those type of games. MNR is just awesome!
(Nowhere near LBP but pretty close)

Well if someone asked me if LBP was worth ?40 i'd tell them it was no where near it.

So are you saying its worth much more than ?40?

I'll be getting Modnation, but I need to get Red Dead Redemption first.
The in-depth mod and vehicle creation probably adds alot of replayability.

Now that you said it... it doesn't.
But I think I can explain.
Imagine that awesomeness is measured in giant pillars, and LBP is far higher than everyone else.
ModNation Racers is also very awesome, but nowhere near LBP (my first point)
But now, if you think that LBP and MNR are totally different apart from play, create, share, they can be compared to how awesome they are in their own pillars.
Modnation is really awesome as a kart game with weapons and that stuff kinda game, LBP can't be compared to that because it's mainly a platform game with some creating awesomeness.
But both MNR and LBP are high in their own pillars, which makes them both pretty awesome, and you can say that MNR is almost just as awesome.

Did that make any sense? I think not.

Don't think it's worth ?40 , but it's awesome fun racing for Xp online .... it takes forever to load . Swear i spend more time loading than racing. The create side of the game is a bit thin, making tracks is a great but once you built one you kinda made them all. It seems the game focuses on the mods you can perform on the drivers and the karts which is not really what the game should be about (or maybe it is).2010-06-01 00:09:00

It was worth the money for me. I've had quite a bit of fun. I really enjoyed the career mode (think... story mode) until it started feeling a bit cheap, but the real beauty is the online play and the track creation. Molding a world in 3D for racing is pretty incredible.... although I haven't thought of what I want to do with it yet.

I would say if you enjoy cart racing games (such as mario kart), it is worth the money.
