Emitter help

Archive: 8 posts

I'm currently working on a level and I made an obstacle where you are required to grab on a pink cloudy to reach a higher area. My problem is, when I am waiting for a new cloud to emit, it won't because I'm probably standing in the area where it starts, because it works fine if I move away. My diagram below may help you understand better.

Point "A" is the cloud you must grab on, made of pink floaty of course.
Point "B" is just smoke made from a rocket and some fire, totally useless, but its like a volcanic vent.
Point "C" is the volcanic vent, and once again, useless to the level gameplay, but for added effects.
Point "D" is your sackperson. If I stand where the sackperson is on this diagram, the emitter stops, but if I move to Point "F", is works fine.
Point "E" is the area the cloud is taking you, although it is much higher in the level, thus making the arrow to be at a higher angle.

My emitter is set to a 7.5 linear velocity, a 25 anglular velocity, and emits every 2 seconds, and each cloud has a lifetime of 5 seconds. So, anyone know how to make this easier to grab and reach point "E" using the same technique?

Make there be a hole where the pink floaty is emitted and be sure sack boy can't get in (gas).2010-05-30 15:44:00

Or would it be easier to move it to another layer, as that is just one.....2010-05-30 15:48:00

Sackboy could still access it by moving into that layer.

I know, I was keeping it all in the same layer, but obviously as far as a good level goes, layer variation is good.2010-05-30 15:58:00

Try putting sackboy in the front layer, then put the floaty clouds in the middle layer. Prevent sackboy from moving to the middle layer by not having any floor there. This means that sackboy can't get in the way of the emitting of the floaty, and they can still be grabbed easily.2010-05-30 20:39:00

Exactly what I was going to suggest. Be sure to put gas down in the middle layer, just in case the player grabs the floaty and immediately lets go (allowing them to fall behind).
