Creating a whole new level

Hey there.
I was searching sticked threads but I didnt found what I really want (or Im just blind, which is really possible regarding to the time when I was making this topic

I hope you will forgive me my "dumb" questions )

So let's go straight to my problems:

1. How people inserting their own music in the levels? I was playing some "Saw" like level, and there was that animation like in first Metal Gear Solid level, and theme from Saw movie.
I was looking everywhere how to make own music, and how to instert it into my LBP level.
And I dont mean that sound levels. It was normal level with diffrent music.

2. I said this in first question, but here I want to ask how to make that animation like in first MGS stage.
I think that is made with and elevator hidden behind the scene going down, and logos are showing in the meantime on the screen?
Sounds not too hard, but for me everything now is hard in the creator mode.

3. When Im choosing blank background option I dont know how to modify surface. I mean how to change colors, pattern, and etc. In default presets like Gardens, the surface is made with grass, and whole that things. You know what Im talking about.

4. I was playing some levels where you were starting really high, and there you were going down by elevelators or just by jumping. I was trying to do something like that by making big blocks from metal or other material.
But it was still in the background, I couldnt start on it. And Im pretty sure that I make it the most wide as it was possible.

I know this questions sound a little bit silly. But I just starting, and I want to make some good level, not some sh*t for hearts only.

1. How people inserting their own music in the levels?

This is done with the white, 'music' sound effects. It's very complicated though, especially if you don't have real-life experience with musical notes. People usually set up hidden magnetic key blocks on pistons that sense arrays of magnetic keys. Each magnetic key triggers a different music sound effect note.

The level entrance (starting checkpoint) is on an elevator hidden behind a wall. The exploding logos were made with complicated trigger explosive effects.

You can't modify preset backgrounds, unfortunately. You can only modify lighting and fog effects, or use materials to make the ground over the background's ground.

What do you mean? I don't understand what you're talking about.

I think by 'start on it" you mean spawn on it using a checkpoint? Maybe you need to move your checkpoint up a couple layers so it wont fall? Im unsure of what you mean as well.2010-05-30 11:50:00

Yeah, something like that Jrange, but its not important right now.

Im making some level right now. Simple and not to hard, its my first creation so no advanced far

Here are few new questions:

1. Can someone tell me how to use this Paintgun meter? I mean that meter you put on object, and when you shot at object with it few times it goes down.
I want to make a gate that you need to shoot to open it, or blow it up. But I dont know how to do it.
Even on normal object when I put that meter and shot it, it only goes down, and nothing happens. There is connector, but I have no idea where to connect it when I want to destroy that object that Im shooting at it.
I tried connecting it to some bombs but it didnt worked.

2. Like I said before, I want to make a gate. Something like: Its closed, but when You shoot some thing that holds gate up it blows up, and gate opens. Some sponge maybe for a material that connects gate and wall?

PS.
I want to use something a little bit more advanced but I have really no idea.
Something maybe like killing machine, or some nice looking machinism working in the background.
I think imagination is the only problem here

bombs will only work on cardboard, dissolve or polystyrene. You could hook the counter directly to dissolve though.


EDIT: as for logic/eyecandy to make the door open, gimme a second and i'll post a vid of an idea i have. I can't explain it for the life of me but i can pretty quickly and easily replicate the door I was making for a level that will never see the light of day....

I'm thinking you didn't use dark matter? Dark matter is in the basic materials section, and it won't move, and it can't be destroyed. It's best for holding things up or together.

It sounds like you're trying to make a really complicated level, but it's best to start with something simple, I once tried building something I couldn't handle, and it turned out terrible. It takes a lot of practice to do anything in LBP. So I suggest to try building some simple levels first. Experiment a little bit at a time.

Incinerator tired to answer this, but I don't think he understood the question

To change to background, go to your tools bag and scroll to the end. Then go back one page. There are all the backgrounds you've unlocked!

I once tried building something I couldn't handle

Yeah, Ive got the same problem. So I started building some simple level as you said.
But I want to add some one or two things that looks better than just simple going right and jumping.

I tried to do some disco spinning wheel with colorful light. I made some circle from stone, add motor wobble, then paste light to the stone, but it wasnt spinning

This video with doors is really great. I hope you have no problems if I will use it in my level?

And i forgot to ask before. Is there some way to clean my stage? I mean from paint from gun, or black smoke on walls from bombs.
Because when I was trying what I have done, I was shooting at walls and then I saved. I thought that it will be gone in normal play but it was still there.

When Im placing the cardboard square near the doors, and Im placing on this cardboard a "paint meter" and then connecting it to the piston, it doesn't blow up when Im shooting at it. Meter goes down, doors are opening, but cardboard stays and not blowing.

How to do that thing with blowing?

like in the Metal Gear Solid levels? that was done with bombs hidden inside. so, if you hide a bomb inside the cardboard square and hook it up to a paint switch, it should blow up the square.

I placed the 2-way switch on the elevator. And its working normaly, one way up, one way down.
But I dont know how to do it, to move back elevator when you accidentaly fall down.
Because now, when you fall down, and the elevator will go up, you are stuck.

I tried doing some additional button, but I couldnt connect more than one to the chain connector.

I finally made my level. It took me few days to make, and its still simple level.

If someone want to see it:

But when I published my level I couldnt find it, even by searching by the text.

How people are making those diffrent level labels? I mean those icons for their levels.
With EyeToy? Print some image by PC, and then make picture with EyeToy in LBP?

Or simply the in-game camera tool, you can make a design, go to front view mode, then take a picture.
