Spider mech tank walker 2

SPIDER MECH TANK WALKER 2Shade_seeker
A four legged, walking mech, that has two types of weapons, and directional jump thrusters. This mech is INDISTRUCTABLE and will walk over ANYTHING that is shorter than itself.
OK, another spider mech by me.....but BETTER!
All the issues from the first have been ironed out, let me list them:
NO re spawning of the mech, no need too! This mech is IMPOSSIBLE to break!!! (It will walk over anything, and this proved to be a problem in the level design. I had to add a jet thruster on its roof to use to right the mech if it turns over. Try it out on the first wall it comes up against, it just carries on walking up it until it flips upside down!)
The main weapon is a directional cannon that is controlled via a jet pack.
It has a secondary 'spray' weapon, that is unlocked late in the game.
The jump jets on the mech (Again, gets unlocked later in the game) now have three positions, Forward, Up and back wards. This doesn't allow it to fly, but it allows you to travel backwards and forwards very quickly, and the 'UP' thrusters, well, they don't have a use, just for fun really.
The mech is now only on two planes, so it is far easier to get in and out of (It is designed to be used in conjunction with a jet pack)
The legs now have an extra joint, giving it a 'toe' that grips things far better than the first I made, and gives it a more realisitic (albeit four legged) walking action.
This took ALOT of time and frustrating effort to get right, at least 25 hours for the mech, probably 70 hours in total. Here are some pictures:

You start with an obligatory hands on tutorial

.....to get the dragon bridge down.

And to finally unlock the secondary weapon to battle with the giant mech walker boss.

The mech can be won as a prize by shooting all SIX targets found dotted around the level, good hunting!

I look forward to any constructive crytisisms, there is a notch of thermo left, so a little space for improvements.

Enjoy, and thanks in advance

EDIT: I will F4F ALL that bother to write more than a couple of lines. Cryticisms and praise welcome, questions LOVED, I would like to get feed back on this level, as I am geting a little disheartned with the amount of effort I am putting into these 'tech mechs' for the amount of interest it returns.

Oh, hello!
I played this yesterday - nice level!

What I liked about it:
- The legs; they were so spider like! They walked very smoothly and I thought that gekko skin edge worked well for a futuristic spider... thing... =P
- The story; I liked how you didn't just move through the level in a mech - jumping up and down. There was a story (somewhat, I guess) and your targets system was fun.
- The battles; The first battle with the dragon was a nice touch - it felt like it was a real dragon, but I would've liked to see more of it... The battle with the flying dragon was cool - it looked funny as I fired at it on a futuristic spider mech with a machine gun. The last mech was cool - I was reminded of star wars. However, I would've liked it better if it was like facing towards you, because it kinda felt like I was attacking someone with their back to you... =/
- The weapons - the secondary weapon was awesome at the end, I liked how you could charge it up. It seemed like you can tap it twice and it would charge up two shots, which was also awesome. =D
- Dynamic Scenery - it made me feel like I really was 8 inches tall and that the mech was that big. The use of materials was nice, but I thought you could've either added lights or changed the background. Perhaps you could use the corner editor more? It would eliminate some of the unnecessary corners caused by cutting out with different default shapes.

What I didn't-like-so-much about it:
- A problem presented with 8-inch tall mode for your level, is that it makes manoeuvrability sort of difficult. It was hard to see what I was doing on the section where the spider is coming up and down, and sometimes I felt like I got cheap deaths.
- Camera angles; they felt weird, and they gave me some cheap deaths as well, as I couldn't find my way to jump over spike pits, etc. Also some camera angles felt a bit -too- close up on the player. I would've loved a bit of personal space bubble.
- I felt like there was something missing; a big bad cannon that fires awesome rounds perhaps?
- Control system; a bit strange, sometimes I couldn't see what I was doing...

Overall, this was a very fun level! :star::star::star::star::star:!

I hope you make more ps3 levels, a very promising mech creator, you are!

I'm going to queue this one too, I built a "Spider Slayer" (spider-ish mech built to hunt Spidey) and I'm curious how you built the legs. I'm sure there will be some significant differences since mine is only about two Sackboys tall, but I had to come up with a unique way to make mine work right. If yours seems like it would benefit from the same technique I'll let you in on the method I used.2011-03-23 23:44:00
