LittleBigPodcast LBP2 interview - Episode 70

Archive: 24 posts

It's our EPIC exclusive interview with Alex Evans from Media Molecule! All of your LBP2 questions ANSWERED!http://littlebigpodcast.blip.tv/file/3686277/

I hear a few interesting things:
-Movers, they apparently let you move anything you want through out the level to where ever you want it?
-Improved sackperson skins, not only the moving ones, but also maybe some with actual fur or hair?

Discuss!

Ooh, but why was there no questions about in-game recordings? Walkthroughs to UToob and such would be so much easier and quality-ish... 2010-05-29 12:19:00

He was so fidgety, it looked like he needed to use the washroom.

Really great podcast, btw.

Sweet! Loved hearing about the movers! I guess we can also expect levels with a decent amount of voiceovers. Not too sure about that one lol. 2010-05-29 21:34:00

I have to admit that Im not very good at understanding spoken english, since its not my mothern language and bla bla bla... Even if I get the feeling that I got most of the new info right, could someone make a lil' list of the surprisings things revealed in this podcast?
Thanks!

EDIT: Hallm3 kindly made me a list, so I thought I'd share it here for everyone else that has the same problem as me!

Here’s a run down of what Alex Evans talks about in the new interview cos I saw you were asking.

Main things he talks about are:

There used to be loads of little thermometers inside the one big one, one for materials, lights, corners etc. If one hit the max, your level would overheat.

Now he talks about, ‘balancing your budget’ in other words the thermo is less likely to max out, as things are evenly distributed!

There are new objects called ‘Movers’ that can follow things, change layers or move to different locations

Layers in top down view become the height of the level. So when a car goes over a ramp it has a ‘mover’ attached and is simply moving into the front plane and then moving back again

Voice-overs at the moment have to be recorded using the PS Eye or PS Microphone

He talks about LBP.me saying that we each have a profile page. On it we have links to our levels. When someone clicks on the level it adds it to ‘My Queue’ on your game. Handy!

Also they say they hope to release more content through LBP.me such as tools (I imagine stickers and logos and badges) to format photos and other things to advertise on you page or on a blog.

He then finally talks about Sackboy saying that theres a ton of new costumes they are now able to create with the new engine. Glassy skins and furry and hairy effects, as well as moving skins and costume pieces.

-----------------
Thank you very much, Hallm3!

I have a question then: If a "Sackboy" is now gonna be made out of goo/glass/metal/fuzzies, wouldn't they be called a gooboy/glassboy/metalboy/fuzziboy? Hahaha2010-06-01 23:36:00

Hmmm can't say there is anything particularly new here (bar some clarifications on what has been speculated / expected), but it's a nice interview none-the-less. Thanks for posting it.

I'm now wondering whether or not to resist the temptation to gloat to jjmusicman and rangerzero about how I was right (regarding the movers and top-down views) in this thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=27163-3rd-Person-Camera-Views-looking-more-likely) :hero:

I'd have to say that the whole concept of "movers" is entirely new. There had been speculation, as you pointed out, but nothing as far as an official announcement on how this sort of thing would work. I'm thinking that the "movers" capability will really help your levels come alive so-to-speak. Imagine a simple wall of square blocks that when you push a button, recede and protract into the background and foreground and re-arrange themselves into some other shape! The possibilities are amazing to think about.
