The Console Debate!

Archive: 79 posts

So we've all been using poor Ungreth's thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=27362-Get-thee-back-thou-foul-X-Box!) for debating which console is best from page 3 (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=27362-Get-thee-back-thou-foul-X-Box!/page3) onwards. So, instead use that thread to tell Ungreth which games he should buy, and this thread to debate about your favourite console.

I have a feeling this could completely turn into a huge fight and all go wrong, at which point I'll ask a Moderator to lock this, let's not let that happen ok?

Just remember, respect others opinions, and try not to fight. Ok?

PS3 is muuuuch better!!!

Let's not get even more off-topic by arguing who's a fanboy.

I simply like the PS3 better because it contains LBP, my all-time favorite game.

You should've added a poll :o

Personally, i like all of it, a few months ago i never cared for PS3, but i never had the money to buy it, thus not giving it the chance it deserved, But my bro bought a PS3, and i ended up buying a PSP, and i really love them both. Still haven't played much games for the PS3, so maybe i'll buy more when i get some money :B

Good idea, I'll do that now, although PS3 will win by far, seeing as this site is dedicated to a PS3 exclusive game.

Heh, pretty much it'd be pretty odd if the Wii won :o

Poll added. (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/poll.php?do=showresults&pollid=393)

If you like 2 consoles the same, you'll either have to make the decision, or not vote at all.

I prefer PC.

I don't like using the computer to play games on. I hate using the pesky keyboard keys and mouse. Unless I plug my PS3 controller into the computer, then I guess it's ok.

Still, PS3 is better because it's meant for gaming. Computer's are pretty much just meant for the internet...

I prefer the PS3 for a couple reasons:

1. I don't have a 360, and to be honest I don't really want one. Sure, I'd love to play Fable 3 and Portal 2 and L4D and all of those games, but I don't have the money, and have too many games I want to play that are on the PS3.

2. The Wii is, let's face it, a bad console, and by that I mean that there are no good games at all. Poor Nintendo, pulling all of the weight of their console. I think it was rushed and Nintendo really weren't ready for the next gen. The Wii was outdated at the start, pretty much. I guarantee you it couldn't handle the majority of multiplatform games out today.

3. I'm too lazy and stupid to put together a gaming PC.

But I'm not a fanboy. I try to look at things, at least when it comes to consoles, from an unbiased point of view. I try to make up my mind on issues in the gaming industry on my own, and not based off of what company made my console. But I guess I must be a fanboy if I prefer the PS3, right? Because, if I'm correct, the year is 2007, and the PS3 has no games.

Like my PS3 better than my Wii, by far. The PS3's games are just so much more detailed and fun. I can't play any Wii game, beside Wii Sports, for more than 20 minutes. I just can't do it... So, PS3>Wii

As for Xbox, I can't say. I know I like PS3 exclusives way more than the Xbox's, but I don't want to say I like the PS3 better because I do not own an Xbox 360. I do like the PS3's controllers more for games other than FPS, so I am going to pick the PS3! Ha

PS3>Xbox-360>Wii

So that's my opinion. The only reason I like the PC is the fact it has Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 and Sim City 4!

you are so wrong i have no idea where to begin so i just won't. there are a surprising number of gems on this system that you're just glossing over - including Super Mario Galaxy 2, which is currently the second highest-rated game of ALL TIME.

i love my wii and ps3 equally, and would probably love my xbox if i had one, but alas, i do not. so i cannot pass judgement. i do enjoy halo though.

Here's my take on this.

The Wii is a good gaming platform, it's just a little outdated for it's time. It has plenty of great exclusives, especially first-party games such as Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. The motion control is not so great, though. It can be ridiculously unresponsive sometimes.

The XBox 360 is decent, for the most part. Playing online is exacty the same as the PS3 except with a party system and cross-game chat. Oh, and you have to pay $50 a year in order to use it. The menu is extremely cluttered and filled with ads I don't care about. The majority of the XBL community is five-year-olds yelling obscenities at each other in games like Halo or CoD. It almost has no exclusive games. All of the "good" games on the 360 are dumbed-down versions of PC games. Also, in order to hook it up to your internet, you need to (A) tether it to a wall (B) buy a pricey attachment that adds WiFi support.

The PS3 has solid, free online. It has a familiar and straightforward menu system, although it takes forever to load on occasion. The community doesn't seem too bad, but most people don't have mics because the official PS3 headset is too **** expensive. It has a vast library of games and supports full 1080p with the best graphics around. Oh yeah, it's got built-in WiFi but it can still be tethered to a wall if that's what you prefer.

Keep in mind, this is just my opinion. I prefer the PS3 over the other consoles, but I'll respect your opinion if you're into the Wii or 360. It's all about personal taste, I just see the PS3 as being a more efficient and much cheaper system.

Aw jeez...my PS3 somehow found out about my "recommend an X-Box game" thread.

It just slammed the door in my face after scrubbing the toilet with my toothbrush and told me if I wanted to play around with hussies then I could forget about ever playing Little Big Planet 2!

Nooooooooooooooo!

Geez, this whole debate is so one-sided...

Playstation 3- Now I know this is a good console (I own one), but let's be honest here: download times take FOREVER. Seriously, a small update should not take a half-hour to fully load (let alone complete).
Also, username-change is unavailable on PSN. If I could, I'd pay $3-$6 to change my new PSN to "Gunsmith-Jack" or "Dead-Outlaw".
To add to it, if you jack up your Internet... your PSN is screwed. One little virus, and it's bye-bye trophies!!
Aaaand, finally... the YLOD. That is all.

Xbox 360- In terms of community support and selection, it's all here on 360 (even more so than PS3). I would kill to play some of the games they have available over on the 360 right now (P.B. Winterbottom?! Halo Reach?! Castle Crashers!?!?! Heck yeah!!). Also, their content and set-up are so much more organized and cleaner, with a strong, proud community backing it all up.
But... you do have to pay for online access. If it wasn't for that little ace in the hole, then I'd definitely pick one up.
Also, the hardware is a little blocky and, erm... cumbersome, for my tastes. I feel as though the 360 controller is a bit too blocky for my hands to fit around (but then again, I've been playing PS consoles my whole life; then again, there's the N64 controller...)
Aaand, of course- the RROD. Need I say less?

Wii- For Christ's sake guys- the Wii has games!! Ever heard of the Metroid series? Legend of Zelda? Mario?!... boy, you've been missin' out. There are seriously some hardcore games on there that I can easily name off the top of my head (MadWorld, No More Heroes, Red Steel 2, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy, Conduit, Monster Hunter Tri, Meat Boy... the list goes on). That, and all of my friends have one, so I won't always be lonely online.
But of course... the graphics are sub-par. It's like playing my Gamecube all over again.
Also... that freakin' sensor bar. That thing has to be in the perfect position if you don't want elbow cramps.
In addition to that... the peripherals. Come one guys, a spatula? Really? For bowling? -_-
Aaaand, finally... over-flow of shovel-ware games. Come on, Cooking Mama- enough is enough.

In all, I see some drawbacks and advantages, but debating over which one is superior on a one-sided site?... Lame. I have a life, thank you.

I must say, Castle Crashers looks rather awesome.

Also, yes, the Wii has games, but the only problem is that all of the good ones are from Nintendo. Other than that, there are about 4 decent exclusives made by other companies. I have a Wii, and play it from time to time, mostly for Brawl and Mario Kart, though I would hate to have it as my main console! :O

Could you explain why I'm wrong? The Conduit was a terrible game. MadWorld didn't interested me in the slightest. The only third party game I'm interested in for the Wii is Red Steel 2. How am I wrong? Besides Metroid, Mario, and Zelda, what does the Wii have going for it?

Here's the game systems I currently own:

PS3
Xbox360
Wii
PSP
Nintendo DSi
Apple iPad

I like them ALL for different reasons. The only manufacturer that I think has been slacking a bit is Nintendo. I totally agree it has some great games.... but they seem spread out over long periods of time.

Well, I think it's safe to say, given the nature of what this site represents, that the PS3 will show favor in the poll. That said, it really depends on what you are looking for.

I'm partial to my PS3 since I play almost exclusively LittleBigPlanet. I have played some amazing exclusives like Uncharted 2 and God of War 3, but I really can't write off all of the X-Box 360 exclusives, as I have never played them. Regardless, the two genres that I am least fond of are RPGs and FPS's, which is where the X-Box truly shines. Others are into those, so I can see why the the 360 is doing as well as it is.

With regard to internet, sure the 360's is better and more reliable, but I am the type of person that would be annoyed by having to pay for it. I am very cheap. Not to put down the notion of paying for it at all, though. You tend to get what you pay for.

The wii is kind of a funny subject. I think it has some potential, but it's totally the games that provide that potential. I'm not big on the motion controlled gimmick, but I absolutely love some of the games, such as Super Mario Galaxy 2 or the Metroid games. It's really too bad that we don't see more quality games coming out for it.

Side note: I'm proud of you all for not letting this turn into a flame war.

Biased thread is biased.

This forum is effectively a Ps3 forum, which means mainly PS3 fans. See how that is biased. If i did this on an Xbox forum, X360 would win, if it was done on a wii forum wii would win. That's how it goes. Pointless thread is pointless.

First off, you're confusing fact with opinions.

Second,
Monster Hunter Tri
House of the Dead Overkill
The best version of Resident Evil 4
The better version of Okami
Red Steel 2 (not 1)
A boy and his blob
Fatal Frame IV
blast works
de Blob
boom blox
Tatsunoko vs Capcom
the conduit is actually fun so hush up
Madworld was well worth the 20 dollars I spent
Muramasa
No More Heroes 1 and 2
Dead Space Extraction
Fire Emblem
Little King's Story
Silent Hill Shattered Memories
SIN AND PUNISHMENT 2 YEEAHHHH
The Trauma games
Warioland Shake It
Warioware Smooth Moves
Zack and Wiki

I could go on, and those are just disc-based Wii exclusives. You've also got many magical titles on VC as well as complete backwards compatibility with the stellar GC library. And then you've got some gems on Wiiware.

I'm not saying it's better or worse than the PS3 or XBox but it definitely has more than enough games. Sure, you may not be interested in any of these, but that doesn't make them all bad.

I wish I didn't feel the need to post this, videogames shouldn't be about arguing, but I don't like that people miss out on so many good games

I actually have the RE4 port, it's not bad. I don't have Silent HIll Shattered Memories, though, but I think it looks cool and would be willing to get it if I had the money.

Also, I agree with the GameCube/Virtual Console part. I'd say the ability to play Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64 completely justifies the purchase of a Wii.

the PS3 has littlebigplanet and heavy rain; nuff said
and the xbox has the halo series, not to mention 'you're in the movies' which is always a laugh.

Liking one console more than the other doesn't make you a fanboy, it makes you opinionated. The three console choices may all be consoles, but in many ways, they're very different, and that makes it unavoidable that people will choose a favorite. A fanboy is more along the lines of someone who says a console is better just because its the only one they own, or someone who blindly worships their console instead of calmly preferring it over other consoles.

Ps3, because PS3 with a PC gets the best coverage of good games and you gotta have a PC

Wii I really don't regard as a console in the sense of xbox and ps purely because the games all seem gimmicky and are severely hindered by the wii hardware; I can't think of a single wii game I've played where I'd rush home to try and play it.

X-box:
I like...
The controller.
Far Cry: Instincts Predator.

I don't like...
Overheated about every ten minutes in the summer.
System destroying errors.
Games become damaged if console is moved during game operation.
Confusing interface (the new version).

PS3:

PS3 pros: LBP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS3 cons: YLOD
Xbox pros: good games like RPGs, can be revived from RLOD!!!
Xbox cons: RLOD
Wii pros: Super Smash Bros. BRAWL!!!
Wii cons: easy to get bored
DS pros (Sorry, had to include it): good games like POKEMON!!!
DS cons: Wait, the DS has cons?
Well, it's not the best on graphics, but I don't care much.

outlaw jack, upgrade your internetz, I download a demo of 1,5GB within 10 minutes.

I have one of the best connections around my area, which is about 40-50mbps. It took me almost 1 freakin hour to download the GoW3 demo. It took me only 15 minutes to download the Halo Reach beta, both being around the same size. Everything on the PS3 takes longer to load/download. (For example, your PSN Friends list takes a while to load up, and comparing trophies takes forever! While on the Xbox 360 it's almost instant.) Like Comph said, you get what you pay for and since your not paying for the PS3, well yeah.

I still like both consoles, I just prefer the Xbox since it's all about the online for me and Xbox Live is a much better option then PSN, in my opinion of course.

What?! I can't pick PS3 and I have a life?

Anyway here's my reasons for favouring PS3.

-Backwards compatibility, it's always nice to have.
-Free internet, yeah I'm cheap.
-Controller layout, the position of the analog sticks on Xbox annoy me.
-Controller has in-built battery, I have a good battery charger but I hate having to charge batteries.
-Controller can plug into PC, that's just plain cool right?
-Blu-ray player, Blu-ray is sems to be replacing DVD so it's good to have, future proofing.
-Exclusives, I personally like them better.

That's all I can think of right now.
So yeah, just my 2 cents.

All you need is the same USB cord you use with the PS3 to plug it into your PC.
Then you have download this thing called SixaxisDriver and it should be pretty simple from then on
you even get sensitivity with the analog sticks but not with any of the other buttons.

Hope this helps because I can't remember much else, I haven't used it in a while.

that is definitive proof of PlayStation's superiority, all hail Sony, obviously

Not that this is a forum for a community who play a PS3 only game has anything to do with the results.

Not that I disagree.

Ive never played a console as much as my ps3, and as such is my favourite.

I sold my xbox360 as it has no exclusives that interests me and the controller was too small for my hands. Also it rrod every month.

Im getting a wii just to play mario galaxy and mario galaxy 2 when its out in the uk as I know it will be my favourite platfrm game as nothing has come close to mario 64 or sunshine (including lbp). I dont like the wii as a console as im not into motion controls and really hate going back from hd detailed graphics to sd, but I guess ill have to if I want to play mario.

What? Xbox has a huge controller!! At least it's bigger than PS3 anyway....

How is this relevant at all to the console debate? Anyway, it's not impossible to use the PS3 controller on your PC. Try a ****ing google search, man.

did you actually read at what I pointed it? /facepalm
and it IS possible to do, it's just too time consuming to even bother with it.
even if you get the driver working you still have to find a program to link the buttons to a keyboard key, neither xpadder or controlMK did it for me.
try it yourself and then come back with your own tutorial.

I have never heard of any of the XBOX or Wii exclusives you guys mentioned, save for some of the Mario/Pokemon-ish titles. But even then, it's not like I've heard people rant and rave about them.

The only XBOX exclusive I've ever heard anything major about is Halo, which if you asked me, simply isn't appealing to my tastes in a shooter. I like Sony's products because they're not Microsoft, and Nintendo has cornered the kiddy market. XBOX is primarily geared towards teens (which is why they have such a robust social network) and PlayStation has always had 2 adult-themed titles for every one on XBOX or Nintendo.

As far as content, Rockstar, SquareEnix and Kojima Productions used to be the three biggest reasons why I went PS over the other consoles, although two of those have now crossed the multi-platform barrier. If you asked me, PlayStation exclusives still outweigh anything I've seen on the XBOX or Wii. (Oh yeah, God of War, Ico/Shadow of the Colossus, too!)

When it comes down to it, the Playstation controller just fits more naturally in my hand, like a handheld device rather than a toy with buttons. Although, I will probably be caving and buying the eye/move combo or getting it for Christmas... but I've heard it feels much more natural than a nunchuk.

That sounds like an outright lie, no offense. It's hard to believe you haven't heard of Left 4 Dead, or Splinter Cell Conviction, or Gears, Fable, or any of the other many exclusives the 360 has.

The controller debate is ****ing stupid, I hate to break it to you guys. Maybe it's not blatant fanboyism, maybe you do it subconsciously, but it's still fanboyism. I don't even own a 360, but when I go over to a friend's house and play it, it's not like I'm a caveman and the controller is a ****ing rubix cube, it's almost the exact same, except a tad bigger and my thumbs don't always slip on the joysticks.

You like Sony products because they're not Microsoft? Well, at least you're admitting it.

EDIT: Also, I'm being rude right now because there's a tornado warning in my county. The weather is throwing off the cosmic flow of the universe and blocking my chakras.

I'd say overall theXbox has a wealth of games that vastly outnumbers the humble PS3, but the PS3s exclusives are of such sheer quality that it obliterates xboxes feeble mass. LBP may not be considered a good game in the eyes of FPS freaks, but let's compare.
Generic Xbox Gamer Community vs Littlebigplanet community
offensive yobs who'll kick you for having fun... A great community

a kind caring development team who have evolved with the community and is now fully functioning organic mass of networked plsyers ( sure there are some tumors to deal with but they're working on it)

to Conclude PS3 better than Xbox

All valid points, though more of my friends have the 360 than PS3, and, to me, that would make the 360 community better, not to mention everyone has a headset. That's one thing Sony definitely needs to do. Start bundling headsets with the console pl0x!

I'd also disagree with your first point, because I think that the 360 doesn't have that many more quality exclusives than the PS3. Perhaps if we're talking games that came out 2006 and 2007, then yes, the PS3 had a rough start, but I think the PS3 has been able to catch up. Not saying the PS3 has more exclusives than the 360, but I think that "vastly outnumbers" is an exaggeration.

Oh, god. This makes me want to throw up.

How does Sony have a heart? Because MEDIA MOLECULE made LBP? Because PSN is free?

Let's face it, both Sony and Microsoft are businesses, and they're in it for the money. Does that mean they're bad people? Does that mean they'll exploit their users? No, of course not. I'm not going to be one of those people who say they don't care about us, of course they do. They'll care to an extent.

They're both in it for the money, though. What exactly gives Sony a heart? Is it the fact that PSN is free? That's simply a business decision, that's a good selling point to a lot of people. Maybe you could elaborate on that saying a little, so I could better understand your point of view?

This is a console debate, we know LBP is an awesome game with an awesome community but it isn't Sony.

Sony and Microsoft are both in it for the money, think of it as you will but they could care less what you thought about their console, they just want your money. That's what keeps food on their table, and keeps the company alive.

I'm curious:

Sony's customer service is fairly bad. If your account gets hacked, it will take hundreds of dollars of contact fees to get it back, presuming you get it back at all.

Is the x-box's service like that too? I heard it is.

Sorry, let me rephrase my statement:

I have never heard of any decent XBOX or Wii exclusives...

You like Sony products because they're not Microsoft? Well, at least you're admitting it.Yes, Microsoft never understood gamers, never will, and they build crappy gaming systems and even crappier games. That's my personal opinion, and one you may disagree with. And it's not like I'm some iDiot who worships Apple, either. Steve Jobs can go REDACTED. I like what Microsoft does best: Operating Systems and Office Applications.

Another thing too: I think you'd find that the average Sony PS3 owner is older than the average XBOX owner. The PS3 was out of reach for a lot of people when it first came out, and the XBOX hit shelves for considerably less money. Thus, younger players (and their parents) were more keen to buy the XBOX. This has held true in my own experience, and represents another reason why I prefer the PS3: the players (and PS3 games in general) are generally more mature.

Never used customer service on the PS3. I've used it quite a few times on the Xbox and the customer service is pretty good, the wait is usually the most annoying part, once you get a person to help you with your problem it's usually a smooth process, I forgot my email adress and the guy helped me out, they usually have a good humor too, told him my Gamertag and he had a good laugh and told me I had a creative name. As for your account getting hacked, never happened although you would probably need proof, actually account hacking on Xbox doesn't happen at all unless you get tricked into giving your account information, at that point it's your fault.

Just a reminder of the 2nd and 3rd paragraph on the OP;

I have a feeling this could completely turn into a huge fight and all go wrong, at which point I'll ask a Moderator to lock this, let's not let that happen ok?

Just remember, respect others opinions, and try not to fight. Ok?

Just seems like people are taking this all a little too seriously is all....

a few things I would like to mention:

@awesomemans: I'd rather not have sony bundle a microphone with the ps3...reason? from my experience I only heard 12 year old kids in games and I hated having to mute them every game I would join.

@schm0: lol, how can you have not heard of the L4D games, mass effect, gears of war...seriously, come from under that rock and take your ps3 and TV screen with you too

oh and something else I want to throw in: technically, the ps3 online isn't free...you still have to pay for your ISP subscription! (even though that doesn't make a difference, I always wanted to say it in a console debat when it comes to free online)

I used a similar debate in other subjects though, like comparing using the internet for business market research, advantage is its free as opposed to doing it yourself which takes more time which costs money, as time = money, then I waltz in saying, "net ain't free guv'nor" like a right legend, or goon/nerd/freak etc....

....

Nyuk..

Sorry for the derail.

I think that there is no need to see which console is the best. They each have their own different strengths and weaknesses...tbh it depends on what you like some people love the 360 others hate it.

But meh I go for ps3 as its the only one i have
