LBW5 - Zombification

LBW5 - ZombificationOneEyedBanshee Survive a zombie horde as long as you can. Thought I'd make an entry for LBW5. Don't really make survival challenges so I thought it would be something different. I had a go at making a zombie survival challenge, maybe it's nothing new but I haven't played many others. You must shoot the heads of oncoming zombies, they get more common as time goes on. There is 2 new types of zombies that have a chance of appearing later on but chances of seeing them are slim as it gets quite crazy with just the normal zombies. It's a pretty dark level so pics don't look too clear but I grabbed two, one of the play area, one of the scoreboard area. Anyhow if you like this genre please give it a go and let me know what you thing, suggestions are welcome. But as I'm sure your all aware emitters + complex stuffs = thermo death and I have hmm 18 of them so thermo is very close to max. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/Almwitch05/APhoto_21.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/Almwitch05/APhoto_20.jpg Feedback much appreciated http://lbp.me/v/s-y6eq | 2010-05-27 20:26:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |
Totally epic looking!!! I can't wait to play. | 2010-05-27 22:13:00 Author: X-FROGBOY-X Posts: 1800 |
1) Your environment is really well made. I don't know how I feel about your trees in front of the scene, but I suppose they make the scene more interesting. 2) Like everyone else, I'm in love with how the zombies move. I'd like to see how that was done. But why are their heads so blocky, with a big hole in the front? Maybe I should have paid better attention and I might have understood. 3) I'm personally not a fan of shooting in three layers. Most of the difficulty stems simply from switching to the correct layer. I like the fact that the player dies in all three planes though. There must be some way to make it more apparent what layer to switch to, maybe by making the camera more top-down, maybe by putting dotted line stickers on the ground between layers? 4) Your ending area is pretty nice, but I don't understand what it is that we're standing on... It just seems like a random stone cube. Can you make it look like something real, like a house, hospital, morgue? You have an impressive level here so far. It's not perfect but I think anyone who likes zombie levels should play this one at least once. I gave it four stars. F4F my zombie level: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=27684-ZOMG!-Survive-the-Zombie-Takeover! Oh between you and me, my level was overheated too, so I fixed the problem by making the zombies not technically creatures anymore. I took the brain off of them and replaced the feet with rolling wheels. It worked in my level, and the zombies just mindlessly roll towards the center of the map rather than following the player, which is all I really needed them to do. | 2010-05-27 22:18:00 Author: LilNeL Posts: 34 |
Hi- First off, I love how the survival challenge sort of begins as soon as you start instead of something like 'press the red button to continue'. You are great with the 3D layer glitch, and the level's visuals are absolutely stunning! The looks bring you right into the inner fun of the level right at the start. Shooting the zombies was cool too, and I thought it was funny how they walked in their own zombie-like way. This is, by far, one of the most addictive survival challenges that I've ever played. I played enough to where I saw the two special zombies. I finished in 1st with 7,742 points! I rated it :star::star::star::star::star: and <3ed. | 2010-05-28 01:30:00 Author: X-FROGBOY-X Posts: 1800 |
Woah dude, better than I imagined. Looks like you didn't need my suggestions after all Anyways, your level; The Good stuff : - Amazing zombie designs, I love their hobbling gait! I see what you mean about wanting animated legs now, it really does add something. Are you using pistons to move them? It's definatly something special there. - I love how, and it might be incidental or it might have been by choice, that when you shoot the zombies that because they are so light, they recoil a little bit from the impact. It's not much, but its satisfying. - Super good use of 3d layer glitch, there are some real masters of it around and about this forum aren't there? Stuff to think about : - The camera makes it very difficult to see which layers the zombies are attacking on. For me, at least, it made it more trial and error than being good at aiming. If you maybe were to tweak the camera to be a little more 'top down' then that might alleviate the problem a little. - The 3d layer trees in front of the action felt a little intrusive, that might have just been me but they seemed to obscure a lot of the action. - The grass in the background seems a little too vibrantly green. It seems to stick out a bit (for me at least), maybe try a patterned grass material or darkening it with stickers to see the difference and to see if you notice it. Pretty sick stuff though, :star::star::star::star::star: and <3 My F4F is my Seeking the Meaning levels in my sig (don't worry, the prologue is only like 30 seconds long ) | 2010-05-28 02:23:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
It was pretty fun and unique, as with any survival level I didn't make it that far, it was fun though, I can see what Asbestos is saying about the layers. I'd just kinda switch back and forth layers till I was hitting something, not much to criticize, I enjoyed it. All in all, pretty good. I wish you success with your level, best of luck. | 2010-05-28 02:46:00 Author: ElementalPenguin Posts: 83 |

Thank you guys for the feedback. Darn frogboy you are like stalker of leader boards! I checked the leader boards for a few mins after you first commented and I was like no way he played I don't see him there. Good to see you got to no1 lol now just to nudge you off that spot.. Asbestos I get the grass comment, I never thought about darkening it for some odd reason, I will be sure to take a look at that to make it match more. As for the camera view, I totally understand that it can be slightly tricky to tell but perspective is the indicator. There is subtle differences between each layer that way but maybe that's not enough. I have the view at that angle to show off the background but I'll still see what I can do. The trees in the foreground are a style choice I felt it added more dimension and depth so I want to keep it there. I could try messing with the thickness of them to make the view a bit more open. As for the way the zombies are setup there is pistons and legs and all sorts lol. Not as clean when they bump into each other but for the most part it work for what I want. Cheers again guys I will be sure to check out any F4F levels you request, I'll do yours Asbestos now in a min! | 2010-05-28 03:36:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |
I checked the leader boards for a few mins after you first commented and I was like no way he played I don't see him there. Yep, that's one of the things that really annoy me about the game. | 2010-05-28 03:40:00 Author: X-FROGBOY-X Posts: 1800 |
I played it and thought it was really fun. Liked the visuals One minor con is the foreground sometimes getting in the way of the midground, but other than that, 5 stars and heart No F4F needed [if this is one lol] | 2010-05-28 07:20:00 Author: Voodeedoo Posts: 724 |
Ok I tweaked it a bit, made the trees thinner, they are thick so from far to the side they are still chunky but a little less so, the middle of the screen they are most notably thinner so it should make it a bit more open there anyhow. Grass I darkened and it matches more. Also tweaked cam slightly. Thanks for the feedback everyone! | 2010-05-28 16:18:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |
Wow looks great AND you have some good feedback! Im looking more forward to playing it now XD Im gonna go for top score to MUAHAHA watch out peeps lol | 2010-05-28 16:27:00 Author: Fenderjt Posts: 1969 |
lol eh Tia like to see you try! It's not as easy as you think 7k is a very formidable score by Frogboy. But eh yeah I'll be the one taking that top spot :kz: k? thanks, bye! | 2010-05-28 16:35:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |
I guess I'll have to give this a go, though I have a horrible feeling that it'll be better than my LBW entry. Looks fun though, and design is awesome from that one photo! 8D http://i.neoseeker.com/mgv/272671-Blackfalcon/671/5/animal0064hb2_display.gif | 2010-05-28 18:25:00 Author: Blackfalcon Posts: 409 |
This level was great! The environment was creepy- great use of the 3D glitch! The zombies could have been better stickered, but that doesn't matter much.:star::star::star::star::star: and <3 | 2010-05-28 21:16:00 Author: Sunrise_Moon Posts: 469 |
I have an even higher score now, go check it out, it's awesome! | 2010-05-28 22:04:00 Author: X-FROGBOY-X Posts: 1800 |
Turns out I done something silly when making a fix. I placed 2 objects incorrectly thus preventing front layer zombies from spawning. So technically you got that facing 2 layers of zombies instead of 3 which is a whole lot easier! I fixed it now so I'd like to see you get 10k again XD. Don't worry I will keep trying though. My fingers a bit burned out though from all the r1 mashing lol. Thanks Sunrise-Moon. I agree about zombie stickering, could be better but I am not lying when I say I had to reselect the zombies for emitting dozens of times already. Scrolling all the way down is a killer, I will contemplate stickering though, if I get good results I will be willing to redo the emitters. | 2010-05-29 01:15:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |
From just looking at the pics i would give it a :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 lol I am going to try this later | 2010-05-29 03:11:00 Author: Arnald23 Posts: 1843 |
Haha, enjoyed this so much! I've never been so determined to get onto the High Score board in a survival challenge, finally managed 10th and decided that I should be happy with that! Then my brother came in and wanted to see the level, so I played it again and managed 7th! Design was really cool, and it was so hard! Even though the zombies aren't random you get swamped so quickly, points multipliers are your best friends! Very well made level! :star::star::star::star::star: Best of the luck in the competition, my entry will be up by Monday, if you could F4F it then that would be great, but no rush. Bring a friend! http://i.neoseeker.com/mgv/272671-Blackfalcon/671/5/animal0064hb2_display.gif | 2010-05-29 19:55:00 Author: Blackfalcon Posts: 409 |
one of the best survival levels i've ever played | 2010-05-30 00:09:00 Author: Crazed Creator Posts: 177 |
I went back and got 16k, beat that! | 2010-05-30 00:23:00 Author: X-FROGBOY-X Posts: 1800 |
Thanks, I've redone the stickers on zombies, tweaked the difficulty and tried to make it more random. Now it's not that much more random but there is differences, not very notable at the beginning but as time goes on the play should turn out differently to the last. Also thank you everyone that is engaging in the fierce competition for the top spot. FrogBoy you are so dead later! I was there at the top for 2 seconds! I'll be back for it though XD | 2010-05-30 00:23:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |
That was a great level! I only mananaged a max of ~2567 points, i placed 10th at the time. I loved the zombies since they were more bloody-cardboard-robot lookin than zombie, i was expectin the usual human like zombie but was presently surprised! and i also love the way you had to shoot them in the head, makes aiming a challenge when one has to aim from left to right, plus the extra layers add to the visuals. Survival levels aren't really my thing but this was great. it was simple, fun, and the area an zombies look great... think i'll go try beat some scores EDIT Woo came 6th... those bouncing zombies really add to the hecticness | 2010-05-30 16:49:00 Author: MegaBlob Posts: 291 |
Lol, I played again, and got the topscore again, with 27k. | 2010-05-30 22:27:00 Author: X-FROGBOY-X Posts: 1800 |
Why do you keep doing this to me Frogboy? AAARRRHHH!!! I will somehow have to beat that now.. Thanks Megablob glad you liked it. | 2010-05-30 22:34:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |
I'm definitely adding this to my list of "to play" levels! Sounds awesome!! Will play it as soon as I can! ^^ | 2010-05-30 23:37:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |
How did you get 27K??? Holy crapington | 2010-05-31 12:31:00 Author: MegaBlob Posts: 291 |
I liked the level alot, I've played the level and got 3rd place! XD Things I liked -great atmosphere in the level -I loved how you used the 3d glitch to make the level look more apocalyptic -The scoreboard part was very creative, lol Mmm Brains Things that you should look at -The camera angle should be fixed because you can't see which layer the zombies are on -you could go really far away from the center of the level so when the zombies emit you could get caught off guard because it just pops up like 3 feet infront of your sackboy -The scoreboard part was very creative but you can't see the sign very well, maybe move it a little bit lower so you could see it, and maybe give the sackpeople some time to get to the scoreboard so they could see the sign | 2010-05-31 16:10:00 Author: wolverine_2008 Posts: 304 |
Nice level. Best zombie level I've played actually. Great job. Can't really say more. :star::star::star::star::star: and <3. | 2010-05-31 16:42:00 Author: AbstractSam Posts: 332 |
