The Music Maker: Awesome or Fail?

Archive: 16 posts

So MM said that they will add a Music Maker in addition to the classic songs for the game.
(or maybe it's a rumor.)
Imho, this is the greatest idea ever.
With this, you can literally replicate any song without the copyright drama.
But...

I hope it will be complete and easy to use. I WANT TO MAKE ANY SONG FROM IT.
Imagine a Super Mario level with

Or a Metroid level with

Oh so much awesomeness...<3

However, what if the Music Maker sucks? And it can make only simple tunes?
I'm a bit scared

I hope we could make tunes like the ones you linked.
Chances are it may be complicated to do them though.
I am sure that there are people here who have the talent for music making in LBP though.
Spyro the Dragon music in my level series would be amazing.

IP rights apply to the actual composition, as well as the recording. Now, it's liable you'll get away with reproducing other's copyrighted works, in the same way that most people get away with it now. But that doesn't mean that the music maker is a copyright bypass. I just thought I'd clear that little misconception up

Have they officially announced this feature? I was wondering where this speculation originated from... curiousity and all. 2010-05-27 17:40:00

I'd love it to be complex, but chances are it will be similar to Mario Paint composer (youtube it along with a popular song name)2010-05-27 18:46:00

Depends on how it is made. They will have a hard place trying to get it right; too simple, and people will complain; too complicated, and only few people will venture on it's depths. Of course it would be great if they/Mm would make tutorials of the subject 2010-05-27 18:46:00

Not explicitly stated there, but there the wording very much implies there will be a dedicated tool for making music.

I would love this. I have attempted to make music many times, and I've played the tutorial levels, but I just can't get the hang of it. Also, the lack of sounds really limit me.2010-05-27 20:09:00

If it would be anything like Mario Paint (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzC-DZDP5ZI), heck even Warioware: DIY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4CIt1NpjVk). i'd say it'd be amazing =D2010-05-27 20:33:00

If anything, I would assume it will be much easier to use the existing microchips to create a sequencer, with perhaps the addition of a lot more variations of sound effects (i.e. instruments.) Perhaps even sustained notes and volume ramps? I'm sure anything's possible, to be honest... Maybe that's what they meant?2010-05-27 21:29:00

like you said flame dragon i hope its easy to make simple tunes like this:

Or fairly complicated songs like this:

I honestly would never need to play any of these games again, if the music-maker allowed you to do this!
