The Gaja TempleKishemishe
In a dark and creepy temple in the far corners of India, the lights have gone off! Can you help turn them back on, and rack up points along the way? Make friends with the elephants and they'll help you on your journey!
Hey all. This is my first level that I've posted to a forum. I've only made one other level, but I'm pretty happy with this one. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hey, cool level.

I really liked the beginning of the level and some of the contraptions you built. The level looks really good and plays very well. The elephants were cool as well as the overall theme. However, when it became dark, it was extremely difficult for myself to navigate through the level. The problem with making a dark level is that everyones TV's are different so what might be easy for you to see may be hard for others. I understand that the concept of the level is to turn on the lights, so I'm not really sure how you may want to change it. Maybe it doesn't have to be extremely dark, just a tad dimmed?

Also, after the fireball conveyor belt, I actually missed the checkpoint the first time, so you should probably place the checkpoint on the platform, rather than in the middle of the air. One more thing! The second time I played through the level, the car at the end actually killed me by flattening me.

I gave the level 4 stars. I don't think it would be fair of me to knock it down a few stars due to my difficulty in seeing the level. I think my problem is that there is a rather big glare on my TV. I really did like the beginning though!

Anyways, if you want to give my level feedback please do so: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=23831-Snowy-Adventure

If you don't want to, no big deal!

I think you are doing yourself a dis-service by not putting up some pictures of your level, especially when you have some genuinely good looking set pieces. I took the liberty and snapped some for you to show everyone else.

Good stuff :

- Some gorgeous characters, seriously, at the begining when I saw the sitting lady I got my sticker tool out and started peeling it apart; I thought you'd just used a preset face! It was pretty inspired. The elephants were kinda' cool as well

- Good chocie of material combo's and decoration choices.

Stuff to think about :

- MAKE AN ICON!! A lot of us LBPC goer's will just outright ignore levels we see on lbp search if they have a default icon. You clearly put some effort into your level and you have to make sure your effort shows at first glance.

- The elephant / green gas section of level is particularly difficult to see Think about adding some more ambient lighting. Also the first elephant, the one that speaks to you, that's tough to know which bit of trunk to grab onto. You should maybe consider looking at an and switch where grabbing any part of that first elephants trunk will make it go down.

- The bit with the emitted firey blocks, about half way through, it was hard to know where you could stand before it, maybe tweak the lighting up a teensy bit.

- The story was nice and simple and put a good purpose to the platforming but when you to the end of the level you don't do anything...I was expecting to light a candle or pull a lever and see something cool to show that I did something. Maybe if the vehicle drove along and lit candles slowly makign the level brighter, that would be cool.

My F4F is in my signature, it's the Seeking the Meaning part 1 and prologue (don't worry, the prologue is only about 30 seconds long and you don't have to do anything )

Thank you so much for your advice, both of you! If I make an icon, do I take a photo of something and use that as my icon? And do either of you know how I can name some of my objects? I have a few LBP books, but there's nothing about either of these things in there. And thanks so much for posting that picture i worked really hard on that meditating lady in a sari. Took me forever.... How do I take/add pictures? I'm so new to this part of LBP. Thanks again for your advice!2010-05-28 00:31:00

It's not so hard, don't worry.

To make an icon, you would make something cool in create mode, ideally you'd switch the camera to front view (it makes the brightness nicer) and then go to stickers, and capture it.

Back in your pod, go to community > Search > My levels and highlight your level, go to change icon, and find it. Perty simple.

To upload images to this site, you need a usb flash memory stick. All you do is find the image you want to upload here, click square on it, then click export to hdd. Then on the ps3s main page, find it under pictures and copy it to the stick.

Then, you'll use a website like imageshack.com or photobucket. You don't need to register to use their service.

You'll take the direct link from there and when you make a thread or post a reply on this site, you'll see a little icon in the shape of a picture, click that and paste the link.

Voila!

When you want to name an object, go to your goodies bag, press square, press up to highlight the name, then click X. Then you can rename it

Well done, this is a pretty good level. It has variety of things and a nice simple storyline. Also I don't mind the pink elephant icon, as long as it's relevant to your level I don't mind, if your level is about the fire and you have a snowflake for your icon is when I have problems, or the overused ones. Not much to criticize, I'd say the only part I had a slight misunderstanding with was with the floaty material, I couldn't tell that I was supposed to use it as a switch and had to kill myself. The lighting is a bit dark in some places but It doesn't bother me too much, it's supposed to be about all the lights being out after all.

All in all, not bad. Good luck with the success of your level.

Hi Kishemishe, and congratulations on your first published game!

K, will type and play.
Nice start, great elephants!....(maybe use an infinate lives spawn at the elephants, (i'm not very good at platformers) I died so many times I had to restart lol.
Maybe put one half way, past the elepants, and just before the last moving platform where the candle is.
Phew, made it! That was tough, but felt good when I did it, some nice grabbing and jumping there (not by me, i mean level design)
Excuse my ignorance, but how the heck did you make the rickshaw tick to the walls??? VERY clever indeed!

Ok, so Ive finished. Maybe I'm influenced by the fact that this was your first game, but you know what, I REALLY enjoyed this level. I Had no trouble with the lighting, and really enjoyed for once, the platforming! I gave you five stars, well done indeed!!!

If you could f4f my level "Spider mech tank walker 2" that would be grand
