Robots becoming more agile, planning world domination
Archive: 16 posts
Check out this cool robot that can run fast and do backflips, and then fear for the future of humanity! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLIVBKrzNzI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CdrPvIvl0Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vIQw__SZSc | 2010-05-26 15:06:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |
From the looks of it, that robot isn't actually running, it's just walking rather fast in a comedy / benny hill fashion. I have seen (on telly, not real life) one of those Honda bipeds actually run though, which was bloody impressive. Realistically, I think if robots are becoming more agile, world domination is a bit far off. Possibly they should set their sights at the olympics first Nice vids though | 2010-05-26 15:23:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Also impressive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1czBcnX1Ww | 2010-05-26 15:30:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
@rtm223: You're right, it does have more of a running motion. Sure has come a long way since the early models that only walked and sometimes fell off stairs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vCytjNj-uM | 2010-05-26 15:35:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |
The most terrifying thing is of course that cats and robots have teamed-up. http://www.theboredninja.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/roomba_attack_cat.gif | 2010-05-26 15:47:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
My cats flee in terror from the Roomba. But if robots can run and do backflips today, how soon before we start seeing the first robot ninjas? | 2010-05-26 15:57:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |

Very impressive. That Big Dog one too is awesome how it keeps itself from falling over. And some people think Terminator and Skynet are fiction !! We have been warned. | 2010-05-26 17:11:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
There's a Little Dog too...it can apparently teach itself what a stable foot-hold is. It's pretty creepy watching it move...looks more like a living creature than a machine. | 2010-05-26 18:24:00 Author: fullofwin Posts: 1214 |
You would think that all you have to do to stop a robot is push it so it falls down, but they've already countered this problem! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sv35ItWLBBk | 2010-05-26 18:26:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |
i think we should combine them all | 2010-05-26 18:39:00 Author: flamingemu Posts: 1872 |
@Gilgamech#1: I don't think its much of a menace yet... Now if it could do backflips while running, THEN we'd be in trouble XD @Sybot: That thing'd be kinda freaky to see if you're driving by or something... Pretty awesome nevertheless. The future is now and well within our grasp! | 2010-05-26 18:42:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |

And the number two threat to America... Jazz robots!! http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/309279/may-12-2010/threatdown---military-food-police--jazz-robots---pretty-girls Though Japan is still the all-time champ of making unintentionally incredibly disturbing robotics: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0P-Jl6Hb5Vw&feature=related I don't really speak Japanese, but I know well enough to know it isn't saying "Please, kill me" and yet... | 2010-05-26 19:33:00 Author: Dapiek Absaroka Posts: 512 |
