Automatic Profile Upgrades

Thanks in great part to RockSauron (I wouldn't have gone on this little endeavor without his creative problem solving), we have just rolled out a system that will upgrade your profile with new features when you reach certain reputation thresholds. At a rep level of 150, 650, and 1450, your profile will be hit with a "booster shot", so to speak, of features and updates that will make using the forum a bit more fun. For those of you who haven't gotten there yet: think of it as motivation to get involved in the community and be helpful as much as you can. You'll earn a ton of rep that way, and you'll hit the first upgrade in no time. For those of you who have already seen an upgrade notice: think of this as a "thank you" for all the work you've put in thus far. We love our community and we can't really do something for everyone because there's simply too many awesome people, but this we can do. I hope you guys enjoy it!

Note: Donors will not see notices about upgrades because the upgrades are unnecessary for them. If you're a Donor and you hit that magical number, don't expect to see any changes!		2010-05-25 03:00:00

Hang on.. I'm a donor and I already have 4 gems, but I got the 'Congratulations - you've been awarded three gems' notification at the top of my page just before. What does that mean then? Was that because I already HAD three or more gems? Or am I to receive more? But as a donor, should I not have received the notification? For a while there, it wasn't configured to be hidden from Donors, so you guys probably saw it while it was viewable to everyone in that rep threshold. It should be hidden now. If it's not, then I'm not sure what the problem is - hiding notices from specific usergroups is a built-in feature.

This is great! All our helpful new members can get bundle privileges! I couldn't live without my ultimate bundle. It's great.

Three Questions:

Since I donated, that means I have all the new extra profile features, right?

Do people who bought bundles keep their bundle upgrades?

Why is the 3rd reputation level 1450? It was a lot easier to get 2500 experience than it is to get 1450 reputation points.		2010-05-25 03:51:00

.......what? I thought rep gems were, as their name implies, symbolic of your rep. And apparently that's untrue because of "bad design"? I'm really confused. Usually helpful posts. Posting in Level showcase threads will usually get you a thanks, commenting in the Artwork and Creativity. Etc. But make sure to actually be helpful and not just say "It's good" Suggest things to improve.

At a guess, I'd say it's PHP's default rescaling code not being able to support the rescaling of animated GIFs.

It might work if you rescale the image to no more than 100x100 pixels or 150x150 pixels, depending on which the maximum is for you, which you can find out on your Edit Avatar page (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/profile.php?do=editavatar).		2010-05-26 23:58:00

you must donate at least 10 dollars to get a user upgrade. And it isn't automatic, so basically you'll just have to wait till CC gets online, sees you donated, and then manually upgrades you to donor status.		2010-06-04 20:25:00

Anyway, I am keen to up my ranking and post relatively often, I do get the impression however that not many people actually use the thanks button.

That's exactly the motivation we want to avoid. Thanks is not something you work for, it's something that comes about by being helpful and being of the mindset that helping others is more important than the rep you receive. You will not gain more rep by asking for it.

And yes, people do use the thanks button quite frequently, but only on the posts that they deem deserve it.

Well, if you want to avoid it, you may wanna keep the only way to upgrade your profile from getting huge amounts of it ;o

Although exp is coming back soon, the guy says that the update to vb exp 4.0 which has the store comes out around today, so D:

Just wondering, what's the max size of the profile picture? I received the message sometime ago about my rep. and the maximum size of my profile picture was bigger, along with a few other changes, which I have not noticed. Yet.

Alrighty, vbexp 4.0 has gone gold! ... which pretty much means that it is now in an almost bugless state, so CC doesn't have the excuse to hold it off on us because it may be buggy anymore.

However... The guy who is working on the shop add on said he'd upgrade the Point Market to be compatible with vbexp today... however, he hasn't been on.

However... I just noticed he just logged on and is looking at his topic... so he may be updating it... now...

At which point, CC won't have too much of an excuse to hold it off on us... EXP IS NIGH!

edit: k, he said he is trying to fix two more bugs before releasing, but it shouldn't be too much longer... so yeah, exp IS nigh.		2010-07-13 01:23:00

Each "thanks" = 2 rep.

You have 158 rep, but thanks is 2 points.

As for the remaining 18, you probably have some rep from before we switched to purely thanks where thanks = 2... so yeah, it gets confusing.		2010-07-14 02:34:00

You earn rep by helping the community, being funny and generally being nice, if people see these qualities in your post they may 'thank', this 'thank' button is located at the bottom left of every post, each 'thank' earns you +2rep.

To see how much rep you have, at the top of the page, next to notifications there is a link called settings, click on it and scroll down and you will see how much reputation you have and in what threads you received it.
