Water Material
Archive: 19 posts
Like normal water, you can swim in it and stuff, but it's a material. And it isn't 3-D. Not free-form, it static and acts the same as horrible gas with the physics. Then R3 to get out of the water if it's one layer or something. Discuss. | 2010-05-23 07:27:00 Author: tjb0607 Posts: 1054 |
I think they've been working on something like that for LBP2. There's definitely a watery looking animated material in the video, but doubtful you'd be able to swim in it. ..so yes, sounds great. | 2010-05-23 10:43:00 Author: Kiminski Posts: 545 |
This would be great! it was kinda how I imagined water before the release | 2010-05-23 19:37:00 Author: Alec Posts: 3871 |
it was kinda how I imagined water before the release Same here, boy was I disapointed... Needless to say I like this idea | 2010-05-23 20:47:00 Author: Serph Posts: 53 |
I like it but it'd look weird. Because the water would look like jello. | 2010-05-24 06:09:00 Author: KablooieKablam Posts: 364 |
You mean kinda what people might have seen for LBP2? Well, if so then its probably gonna be added to LBP2 m8. | 2010-05-24 06:44:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
I think they made the right move with global water. Because in reality, water would spread out on the Z-axis like that. "Drawable" water seems like it would have a sort of forcefield on both sides. | 2010-05-24 06:55:00 Author: KablooieKablam Posts: 364 |
Great idea. Then we would be able to make waterfall who accually looks good. | 2010-05-24 10:42:00 Author: ghik16 Posts: 311 |
I think they made the right move with global water. Because in reality, water would spread out on the Z-axis like that. "Drawable" water seems like it would have a sort of forcefield on both sides. But the game does have some kind of forcefield on both sides, that's why sackboy is confined The suggestion in the OP would give some interesting physics if you think about it, imagine slowly lowering the water material onto a block of polystyrene until upthrust > gravity and it gets sucked up into the water. In honesty though, I don't really think it would add that much to the game. | 2010-05-24 11:10:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Yeah, I second rtm as always The problem is that if we don't have dynamic water, a water material is quite useless, or worth only to do good waterfalls, that is wonderful, but limited only to visual stuff, and won't change the gameplay. | 2010-05-24 13:08:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
Well i dont think you really need it. Jetpack is enough ! | 2010-05-24 14:59:00 Author: Unknown User |
Well i dont think you really need it. Jetpack is enough ! Please ignore this guy. He hates Sackbots too! | 2010-05-24 16:48:00 Author: Jovuto Posts: 2345 |
Interesting thought: if you place water material in a blank level with no confinement, does it spread on the x-axis until it hits both edges, at which point it would be really thin? Apart from taxing the physics engine in gameplay, global water is a lot easier to engineer from a technical standpoint (I have no background in this field, but I assume this is so) | 2010-05-25 03:36:00 Author: KablooieKablam Posts: 364 |
Well i dont think you really need it. Jetpack is enough ! This guy thinks its possible to do anything in LBP2 with a block of wood and a piston, so please ignore him | 2010-05-25 04:01:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
What are you talking about, Silver? You haven't figured out how to make Sackbots/microchips/grappling hooks with a block of wood and a piston? Psh. | 2010-05-25 07:18:00 Author: KablooieKablam Posts: 364 |
This would be excellent--think of how e.g. Roller Coaster Tycoon handled adding water; you dig a hole, and click the water tool in it. Water fills up in the hole only to the level you clicked at. While I understand the physics would be more complicated, this sort of thing would be wonderful. Imagine, e.g., having to knock over a barrel full of water to put out the fire on a block you need to jump on... | 2010-05-29 10:22:00 Author: roux- Posts: 379 |
This guy thinks its possible to do anything in LBP2 with a block of wood and a piston, so please ignore him But it's TRUE! You can do it! If you're McGyver... | 2010-05-29 11:26:00 Author: Flame Dragon Posts: 312 |
it would be nice to have something like this along side current water. | 2010-06-07 16:25:00 Author: Deftmute Posts: 730 |
When water was coming out I thought it would be a material, so I was pretty gutted when it wasn't. Hopefully, Mm are listening... | 2010-06-07 17:05:00 Author: talbot-trembler Posts: 1114 |
