Player Number Requirements

Archive: 7 posts

For a long time I have been creating a level, and as I get closer to finishing it, I realize that it is not very suitable to multiplayer. In many cases, the camera messes up two players during vertical platforming segments, and some parts are far too laggy with multiplayer. It's getting on my nerves, because I might get some bad ratings from multiplayer groups, and there is no way to stop them from playing, hating, then rating my level poorly due to their frustration.

My suggestions for Little Big Planet 2:

1:

Make an option for limiting the number of players that can play your level. Select "1 Player only", "2 Player only", "3 Player only", "No player limit", or any combination of these would be the options. This way, if a multiplayer group of 4 selects a 1 player only level, when he tries to play it, he gets a pop-up message saying that only one player can play the level.

2:

We have Require All switches. Add switches that activate only if there is 1 player in the level. Normally there is no easy way to prevent multiplayer groups from entering areas in levels that only work with one player. This suggestion and the last one as well could eliminate this issue. One example of a level that suffers from the lack of Player limiters would include player trackers, which can malfunction due to multiplayer.

3:

As an alternative to #2 , have switches that can be placed in the level that can remove extra players temporarily until the host passes a switch that brings them back into the game. For example, a 4 player group tries entering a 1x area, and the player remove switch makes the non-host Sackboys disappear from the level. Once the host clears the 1x area, he will pass by and activate a player return switch, which brings all of the non-host Sackboys into the level, without the cost of lives.

4: Make levels that are published as "1x Suggested" non-rateable by multiplayer groups. If the level is labeled as "1x only" by the creator, multiplayer groups can not play it at all, but the host may heart it for later. (Suggestion #1)

I hope these suggestions will be useful in some way to MM, as the multiplayer problem is something I'd like to be fixed in Little Big Planet 2.

Yeah i agree with this. Some levels just aren't working correctly in multiplayer but people still play it with multiple people.
Also i hate it when a level gets completely messed up when a player joins in the middle of the level. What i mean is that inverted switches that were activated by a dissolve material containing a magnetic key on it dissappearing will get re-activated when a player joins, it is very possible that a level randomly gets flooded with water or turns completely dark when a player joins, i absolutely hate this. And also all speech bubbles that were already readen will get activated again.
It would be awesome if you can select the ammount of players can be authorized in a level and to make it able to choose if players will be able to join or not troughout the level

I knew that speech bubbles were activated, but I did not know about all of the other events that you mentioned. This is an even worse problem than I thought it was. Also, thanks. You may have just persuaded me to use one of those gates that prevent additional players from joining.2010-05-22 18:45:00

This is a good idea. And as for your level, just put a note in the comments section saying it's recommended for 1 Player only. It wont deter all groups but it's better than nothing. Good luck with your level!2010-05-22 23:46:00

I will definitely recommend one-player in my description and comments. Thanks!2010-05-23 00:33:00

I'd definately want it, but there will be people who think the current player must be him/her instead of the lazybones who even stops to look all them boring cutscenes... I don't mind taking a turn in though.2010-05-23 20:15:00
