(Spotlighted!!) Jimmy's Room

Archive: 32 posts

Jimmy's RoomVelcroJonze
The imagination of a child is a powerful thing. Jimmy is two years old. What goes on in a little boy's room when Mamma thinks he is napping?
My inspiration for this level came from my nephew Jimmy. He is two years old. I got the idea for this after his Mother put him down for a nap, and he talked (well, as good as he could) to himself for over an hour and never went to sleep. I started thinking about what he could be thinking about. The level came easy after that. I actually have real dialogue in this level, a first for me.

I hope you enjoy your trip to Jimmy's Room, and as always, feedback is most welcome.

Thanks!!

-VJ

WOW what another awesome level from you VelcroJonze. It was full of creativity and is actually one of my favourite levels. It was a blast to play from start to finish, the visuals were unbelievably awesome, the platforming was solid and it was just pure fun. I was really impressed by all the detail put into this level, I liked how it had baby Jonze and Uncle Velcro that was pretty funny. You took a great idea and turned it into a brilliant level. I think this is one of your best levels so far, so keep up the good work, you truly are the platforming king. :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3. 2010-05-22 03:50:00

That was amazangspectaculumongus! Yes, this level was so incredible I had to invent a new word for it.

Wow. I don't even know where to begin. The materials, puzzles, slides, and even *gasp* dialog were all amazing. This is a pure solid masterpiece. You have even beaten Euphoric Physics as my favorite level. That's how good this was! I loved Jimmy's talk about "good because Uncle Velcro isn't good at dialog." Honestly, that was on par with something Taffey would write when it comes to the lol-scale. My favorite part was the area surrounding the waterfall. It took me a while to get in there - honestly I pushed the wall by accident - and that click of the block just felt incredible. Thanks for another great level to rip-off imitate inspire me. =D

Adults talk about the terrible twos... but if this is what your nephew dreams, I hope he never grows up!

Needless to say, five stars and a heart. Amazing work man!

Hidy Ho VelcroJonze! I was excited as always to check out a new level by you, and once again, you didn't disappoint.

I think that the incredible camera angles on this level put just about every other level, including your own, to shame. You did an incredible job with set pieces, and I was wowed time and time again while playing this level. Incredible work with that, and I hope that more authors see what you did with this and try it out for themselves.

The platforming was top notch. You had some unique ideas like jumping across the top of the sponges instead of swinging along the bottom, and I always love to see new things. I am not a huge fan of bubble emitters, but you handled it very well, and I actually LIKED them in your level. As always, aiming for the high score made the level even more fun. (BTW, I currently have the high score, and I am beating 2nd place by over 1,000 points, but I'm sure that that will soon end).

The scenery was great as well. It would be interesting to see what a new Fort Sugar level would look like (and yes, I realize that Sugar Roots was a prequel, but I'm talking about a full blown sequel) since your art style has really improved since those days.

So, in closing, this is an incredible level, and it will certainly add a painful blow to Team Amazingflyingpoo in the VelcroJonze vs. Amazingflyingpoo war

Hey there Velcro,

This level was amazingly different from my perspective. It still has that VelcroJonze feel, but it was different. The platforming was awesome, it will never get old. The catapulting here and there still suprises me when I don't see it coming. The visuals were fantastic, although I thought the materials didn't really match the new background. There were some hidden prize bubbles here and there and especially the emitters. It was fun trying to get the high score, but I am not sure if I still have it. I checked in over 17,000 points, for my first amateur try, but I'll probably beat it if Captain Rule, Memorex, or Xenon don't get it first. I did not know what exactly happebs in your nephew's mind, but if it's like this everytime then he's going to grow up to be a creative kid. Nice level, 5 stars and a heart.

I hope there will be more suprises in your future levels.

Nice VelcroJonze, it's nice to see a new level from you.
Not something new, but something different.

I liked how you pictured this level and I loved the materials used.
I don't know if anyone told you this yet, but this level reminded me kind of like a ship in the seas.
I'm not sure how, but one of the materials in the level gave me that feeling.
It was well put thoroughly and I liked looking for those prize bubbles.

There wasn't much of a story, but I don't think that was the point, so I won't rate you on story.
Your corner editing is always perfect. Whether it's just basic, you still actually bother to do it.
Which is nice and handy. The level was very great to play through and I enjoyed it very much.
I haven't played LBP in awhile, and after checking out many levels, I was kind of disappointed until I played this.
You put the smile on my face and I'm just glad to see you make a new level.

Now that I'm done playing Monster Hunter Tri, I think I might be able to build more levels often.
So now I can keep up with all this feedback.
Anyways, time for your rating.

Length: 4/5
Creativity: 5/5
Corner Editing: 5/5
Theme: 5/5
Story: N/A

Total: 19/20
It's not 20/20, but that still is 5 stars :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart. <3

Until we meet again,

Awesome! The master of platforming has released another tantalising level of epicness! As always the level is very polished, with not a single corner out of place! This level is good just to play through and relax. All the mechanics are relly clean and nothing breaks. You clearly spend a lot of time working working on your levels and this was no exception. The only bad thing was that the ematerials you used at the start didn't really fit in with the theme, unless your nephew is an emo. other than that the level was amazing!

Hello VelcroJonze-

First off, I like the unique material choice for this level, and I love how you used the corner-editing tool, it always gives so much character to a level. The check-points being on winches was a nice touch. It's always good to see a creator trying something new, like how you used actual dialogue in your level for the first time, another thing that I liked was how you made all of the characters names similar to your username. All of the platforming was fun, it had your classic VelcroJonze feel. I liked how you had the secret point emitters hidden throughout the level, because I don't see secrets much in levels. This level seemed to jave your best visuals yet, such as the area with the waterfall and the bridge. I fortunately didn't encounter any problems. My favorite part was the end where your sackperson practically flies to the scoreboard, then the scoreboard being turned sideways, which always make the end of levels so much more interesting. Keep up the amazing work, I look forward to see what you make next.

I rated it :star::star::star::star::star: and gave the level one <3.

Hey VelcroJonze!
I think that this is the first time that I'm writing you Feedback.
Se let's begin!
I like your style, because it's clear and direct: jump over here, run over there, pull that switch, etc.
JR is exactly this, so this is a great level.
And I liked the idea of jimmy describing his room, it's a nice add!
Nicely done and sorry for a very short feedback, but I don't have too much time, but I promess you that when I have more time, I'll write a longer feedback for future levels.
Greetings!

Alright! Lots of gems for me to check out now that I'm back!

This was a super fun level, VJ! I love the way you set up bubble chains in this one, as with some very careful jumping and grab timing you could extend them longer than the average casual player would try to I like the secrets! Just a complete blast to play, I'll definitely be coming back to this one. Keep it up VJ! I love your style, without your levels the community would be lacking in good platforming!

Here is the returning feedback, this level seemed to be the most interesting one of them all...

So... Really original idea, I liked it a lot.
The platforming is great, and the placement of bubbles is awesome, it keeps you moving all the time and really adds a challenge to the level.
That room looks a little dangerous for Jimmy since he is only two, lol
The only problem with this level was me, running through like a crazy monkey with a banana trying to get a bubble combo and failing epicly. I missed one jump but managed to grab the side of the platform. Well, I couldn't get up and saw how the bubbles of grabbing that platform just flew away...
But seriously, this level is great and really fun to play, :star::star::star::star::star: and <3

Well, it's been a while since I've played any levels and given any reviews, but I gave this one a go.

Story/Dialog

+ Though there was dialog, there wasn't much for story. The idea behind it was interesting, however
+ Most dialogs' spelling, grammar, and in some cases, mannerisms were tailored specifically for the role of the two year old speaking them

Gameplay

+ Tons of hidden score bubbles to set apart the Sackboys from the Sackmen
+ Chock full of Velcro's usual platforming goodness, from start to finish
+ A plethora of platforming game elements combined and seasoned with a sprinkle of launch platforms, cooked to perfection
+ An excellent length for a level (not too long, not too short--just right!)
+ In most cases, score bubbles are lined up perfectly to allow for the possibility of massive bubble chains (if done correctly, of course)
- It is possible to be killed by spikes upon being launched by one of the sack-launchers

Final Thoughts
VelcoJonze has become a household name for platforming. People have come to expect a number of components to a VelcroJonze level, including tons of sack-launching devices, unique platforming elements, and score bubbles galore; and this level is no exception. While playing your levels I often think to myself, "How can I proceed while collecting score bubbles in the quickest and most efficient manner, maximizing my score multiplier?", and it is this very frame of mind that makes your levels so fun for me. It's more than just platforming--it's strategic platforming. However, despite my best efforts, I only managed to snag a spot as #5 on your scoreboard.

The moving rectangles was a refreshing and intriguing new platforming element, and the waterfall was visually charming. Overall, this level combines enough delicious platforming to keep me coming back for more.

Final Score: :star::star::star::star::star:
And a <3.
