Get thee back thou foul X-Box!

Archive: 75 posts

About 3 months ago I swopped my old 40gig PS3 for an X-Box 360 (my friend had two 360s, while I had two PS3's). However, I have never even taken it out of the box and plugged it in to play it. It just feels wrong somehow, almost like cheating on my wife. So, I'm hoping someone here might give me a good reason to overcome my aversion to the X-Box and recommend to me some exclusive 360 titles that I would be badly missing out by not playing...2010-05-21 01:06:00

theres a fun game called upseedaisy where you throw something or someone in the air and say upseedaisy over and over till you drop it. That's a fun one.2010-05-21 01:54:00

Try Mass Effect?

Is that the one that's supposed to be a bit like KOTOR? If so, then is it actually as good as KOTOR?

I've already completed that one, earned all the trophies and discovered all the secrets.

Yeah, but get Mass Effect for the PC... Not the 360.

I don't play games on the PC. Sitting in an office chair for hours while playing eleven-finger twist with a keyboard and mouse does not have the same appeal as sitting back in a nice comfy armchair with a user-friendly joypad in my hands.

If you want a good 360 game, try Fable 2 or even Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. I've heard that both are pretty good in terms of quality and content, and they seem to have lots of replay value in them (considering one is making a hero and the other is making cars... and explosions. )

BUT, if you really want quality titles, I recommend getting an Xbox Live account and go through the Xbox Marketplace. There, superb titles like Shadow Complex, P.B. Winterbottom and Castle Crashers (Oooooh, I've SO wanted to play that!! >_<) are available for download. It's also better in terms of price since most Marketplace games are ranging from $7.99 to $19.99 (or about ?5.00 to ?14.00 in your currency). But be warned: Xbox Live is FULL of n00bs, haxxers and boosters.

Oh, and do note that all of the titles I've mentioned are Xbox 360 exclusives.

Wasn't Castle Crashers supposedly going to get a PS3 version at some point in time?

Either way, PC gaming is generally far superior to console gaming in pretty much every area... I wouldn't bother with a console, but I don't actually have the option of becoming a "PC gamer". It's not feasible at least. A desk area can be perfectly comfortable .

But, regardless... If I had a 360 at my disposal I would check out "I Made a Game With Zombies in it" (Apply appropriate 1337 speak, I refuse).

I've heard that Fable 2 is riddled with game-wrecking bugs, so I'm not keen to waste my time with it. Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts has already been loaned to me by the friend who I did the swop with. He said it's a lot of fun, but I still haven't tried it out yet. As for the X-Box Marketplace games you mentioned, are those multiplayer online or single player? If single player then I'll probably check 'em out. Otherwise I won't bother. Aside from LBP I don't do online gaming, mainly because I get frustrated at being repeatedly fragged by cheating little turds who spend 12 hours a day camping out at spawn points with their modded out super weapons and invincibility cheats. Unless you happen to be one of those cheating little turds, I really don't see how anyone can find pleasure in online gaming.

Those games are single-player, for the most part. I think only Castle Crashers is multiplayer... with anyone on your friends list. You won't have to worry about little s***lings fragging your experience... but you may have to be weary about pickle pies and slapping.

It my perfetional opinion, as a person with no life who can't spell, that you are suffering from what we call the "stop n' swop" disorder. Simple put, you are worried that you are going to regret the decission made from crossing platforms resulting in feeling of betrayel to your gaming community. I suggest you take it slow by playing some of the exclusive consle titles like "Banjo Kazooie: Nut & Bolts", "Castle Crashers" or "Dead Rising". You should cured and free of those feeling in about a week or two2010-05-21 04:29:00

I don't have a 360 myself, but I have played a ton of 360 games at friends' houses so I can make some recommendations.

Brand new one getting a lot of positive buzz: Alan Wake
Definitely check out Mass Effect. I played it very late in the game, and even with all the hype I was just blown away. Stellar music too. Really cool game with an engaging storyline and characters.

Don't get Castle Crashers, it's coming to the PSN very soon, and will include new features. But it is a HELL of a lot of fun.
Someone above mentioned Shadow Complex - if you're a Metroid fan you'll want to check this one out. GREAT reviews, and it's a sci-fi "metroidvania" style sidescroller. I haven't played it, but have heard nothing but good things about it.

I've also played through the Halos and the Gears of Warses, but you know what, I'm not a big fan of any of them.

...drawing a blank from there.

There's Tales of Vesperia, the one "Tales of " series that went global that I haven't played

Of course there is already a PS3 remake in the works in Japan, however Namco's weird when deciding which Tales of games should leave japan, they pretty much flip a coin, so its something to make note of.

Viva Pinata sounds fun (liked the DS version)....CURSE YOU MICROSOFT AND YOU BUYING RARE, SPLITTING UP THE COMPANY CAUSING THE OTHER HALF (who did the Timesplitters series) TO BE SHUT DOWN AND RUINING DONKEY KONG!!! *rips up stress reliever ball*

The only game I've played on the 360 is Trials HD. It's one of those 2D motorbike games. I'd love for there to be something like that on the PS3!

It's on the Xbox live arcade though so it should cost under ?10.

Any of the MotoGP series if you like that kind of thing, entirely different ball game to the PS3 versions. Wonderful stuff! <3

Also, I'd totally go for Fable II anyway, never encountered any bugs myself and it's such a good game. Viva Pinata too, if you can get past being spoken to like a 5 year old.

Lastly, Microsoft's offering to the game creation genre, KODU!

Forza 3 if you like racing games, it destroys GT.
CoD2 has a great single player, and seeing as most of the n00bs have moved to CoD MW2 the people online are all pretty cool.
Maybe PGR3/4 if you like racing.
Fable is good, there are some bugs, but they should be mostly gone form patches, I never encountered one anyway.
Mass Effect 1+2 - they are really good.
If you never got Oblivion on Ps3 you could try that...

I never use my PS3, but my 360 gets a lot of use...

I think I'll break my X-Box's hymen with Mass Effect, since I've had multiple recommendations for it, and I guess there must be something there worth checking out. I'm not into FPS unless there's an RPG angle like Fallout and Borderlands, so Halo, COD and Gears of War are definite "nots". Also I'm not really into racing games so much these days, but thanks to all for the recommendations anyway. Alan Wake sounds interesting, and if Fable 2's bugs have been patched then maybe I'll give that a chance too.

Still...I'm finding it hard to accept the X-Box into my gaming life. Even knowing that the X-Box version of Red Dead Redemption is graphically far superior to the PS3 version, I still opted to buy the PS3 version this morning out of some (misguided?) sense of loyalty! Doh!

EWWWW Mass effect 1 is horrible idk bout the 2nd though

You definatly gotta check out Fable 2, Gears of war (1&2),forza, Left 4 dead, Splinter Cell Conviction

yeh off the top of my head =/

Thats off the top of my head

Just saw you hated FPS.
Left 4 dead is still worth checking out as its not all shooting and when it comes to zombies its different.
Im pretty sure Splinter cell is a tad different more sneaking than shooting i thinks.

And Gears of war isn't a FPS!!

Ah yes! Splinter Cell...I'd totally forgotten about that, so thanks for reminding me! I love Splinter Cell games (played 'em all) and I was seriously miffed when I found out the new one wouldn't be coming to PS3. Now I've got an X-Box, that's not a problem any more! Sam Fisher, here I come...

Was about to recommend Halo, but it's a not for you, so I won't. I don't have an Xbox 360, though I would like one. I know I would be buying Alan Wake if I had it, I tried it in a store (just long enough for the guys who work over there to not hunt me out, and it was quite brilliant, though I became quite frustrated when I died because of the lack of ammo.

I'd also say you should visit www.metacritics.com
they are a website that moshes up all the different scores from different critics into one, and it gives you quite a good look at everything. That reminds me that red dead redemption is out, that would be something you might want to check. I think it is also for PS3 too though. Too bad I am under age. Too good that I've got a dad to buy it for me.
Dad's who don't care too much about age ratings and games themselves FTW!!!

I think that's ultimately what drove me away from the 360: Not enough variety. The only worthy titles to ever come out were shooters. And I suck at shooters :/ But its okay now, because I have a PS3, and it hasn't let me down!

As for recommended, if you like RPG's, I'd definitely get Lost Odyssey. The storyline is unique, and the battle system is fun. Plus, all the mini stories you can unlock are extremely well written. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Its super cheap now, thanks to age. Other than that, everything else has already been said.

And racing games... Forza and PGR being exclusive examples of racing games better than any on the PS3... And a fair amount of RPG's... How is Mass Effect on PS3 anyway? oh...

I own every console there is right now and in my opinion it was a wrong decision to get yourself the 360! The only reasons to have a Xbox360 are the SLIGHTLY better graphics, the price, free repair and a few exclusive titles. The only reason I bought the 360 was because it came first and I didn't know how much it sucks! I regret that I bought it every day!

The console is loud, it overheats too fast and breaks easily if you have bad luck (after a few days playing Oblivion for just a few hours I had the problem that the game froze and then I had weird errors for a few hours), there are many flaws (for exapmle when I use the cable for my controller which I had to BUY EXTRA the console won't turn off at once. The light is out but you can still hear it till you press the power button 1-2 times again and I'm not the only one with that ridiculous problem!), instead of making more good exclusive games they "steal" the exclusives from PlayStation (like Tekken 6, Final Fantasy 13, Devil May Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid Rising and so on), you can't play online for free and some of the demos are only for gold members too (and if you really play online with it the 360 becomes more expensive then the other consoles after a while because of the dues you have to pay), there is no webbrowser, they bring always new models because of the countless flaws so you spend your money something not as good as it should be in the first place (the PS3 has different models too but only different hard drives which you can change yourself, less functions which makes your old model better anyway so you don't need to buy another PS and the Slim model), the controler needs batteries (what a joke!), 360 fanboys always talk ill about the PS3 though they have no reason because the PS3 don't has all these ridiculous flaws and they say that it will never reach the 360's sales figures though it already comes near (and Sony didn't have to release a bug invested, malfunctioning console long before the others just to sell more of it while they are giving a **** about what their customes are spending their money on!) and many other reasons!

If I were you I would sell that console again as long as you don't have too many titles on it! Oh and you can be sure that I'm not a fangirl because I like every console even the old XBox but the 360 is garbage!

Ok that's great, but for a start he wasn't asking for your opinion on the console, he already has one and wants game recommendations. Second, you are wrong. All the pro's of the Xbox you mentioned are correct, however some of the bad things are wrong. I will happily pay ?40 a month for xbox live, considering the far superior service i get on XBL than PSN, i never use PSN now because it is seriously lacking in comparison. And because most of the games i play are played online, this means i barely play my PS3 now. Demo's are for silver and gold members, gold members just get some of them first.

That ridiculous problem' isn't a problem, it's the fans going off, and if you have had it on for a wile, that can take a few seconds, no need to repeatedly press the button. Infact, that probably contributes to more problems. Yes there were issues with RROD, but no one i know has had one for a while since the newer chipsets were put out.

Sony didn't release a bug infested games console either. They released one which was severely lacking in terms of many different areas. The xmb is horrible, and the friends integration, and what you can do with the friends, is below par. The mandatory installs are stupid.

I could go on, but i have an exam in an hour and i should be revising.

Nope you are wrong. I never had any problems with PSN and free is always better then paying that much just to do something that is standart for any other system! And it still will cost you more money then any other console because of that.

The Biocn Commando demo was for gold only so I think you are wrong and even if silver gets the demos later at PSN you always get everything at once.

No it has nothing to do with the time the 360 was on and it is a common problem of the 360 that all these fanboys don't want to realize. I once waited for more then a minute but it didn't go off and it only happens with the cable so don't try to tell me it's not the 360's fault!

Of course they released a scarp heap of a console because the 360 broke more often then any other console before. If you say that is not true you should look it up. I can go on too because I dislike that console enough (and even have it myself) to have good arguments against it!

Btw he mentioned that it feels wrong to play wiht the 360 and I told him why it's true so that post belongs to this thread just like and other post.

Banjo and Kazooie or viva pinata; very LBP-ish
BandK you design your own vehicles of any sort (like modnation but on steroids)
and VIva pinata, you build a garden to attract pinatas, mate them and unltimately become a master romancer of them all!

'Biocn Commando? Sounds **** anyways, probably why i didn't know. Don't imply i'm a fanboy when you clearly are. I don't know what a scarp heap is, but it probably doesn't have anything to do with an xbox. If you dislike it so much, why do you have it?

/argument.

Maybe you should read my post properly because I already said why I have it. I also said why I'm not a fangirl.

Bionic Commando is a very cool Capcom game so it's not ****. About the word you don't know since I'm german I can't be sure about every word but as far as I know it means something like "a pile of garbage".

You said you have it because it came first. Ever heard of ebay? If you hated it so much you would have gotten rid of it by now. It's all preference, but to claim that PSN is as good as XBL is wrong. You may be fine with it, but as the majority of my gaming is online, i find the friends management, chat options, online service, and various other things very useful. You may not think it is worth ?40 a month, i do and i'm sticking with it.

As for the exclusives, you may not think they are as good but i beg to differ. For me, Forza is better than Gran Turismo, and that alone sells the 360 over the PS3 as far as i am concerned. I'm a racing fan and racing gamer first and foremost, and i have played all GT's, but Forza is just better. The racing, handling and online modes are superb (well, matchmaking isn't, but i race for a team so i use private lobbies). I prefer Halo to Killzone. I prefer the controller on the 360, and find it easier for precision things, so i prefer any FPS to be on 360, not to mention the friend support again, which is a big thing for me. Racing is easier with precision on the controller. There are many reasons why i personally prefer my xbox, and if you haven't realised by the fact that this is a LBP forum, i do also have a PS3. And a wii for that matter. The PS3 has good features, built in wifi being one of them, but it doens't do it for me.

If you want to continue this, then we'll do it via pm's, however there isn't much more to say. Now stop ruining Ungreths thread.

PS3 has better graphics, actually. I actually struggle to think of things that are better on Xbox360.

And the price, although it's cheaper when you first buy it, it will eventually be much more expensive, you have to pay for all of the following:

Online ?40 per year
A wireless adapter (So you can connect to the Internet) about ?40
Battries for the controller
A hard drive

All that comes free with the PS3, after a while of owning a PS3 you'll have saved more money than if you'd bought PS3.

That cancels out almost all your pros for 360, therefore making PS3 far superior!

Ya that are facts but it's really true that the graphics are a bit better on 360 because of the hardware but not much.

@AlexW618
There are a few titles I had to play on 360 so I can't sell it and I don't want to lose money. I just keep it and in case there is an exclusive title I want so I can play it even if the console sucks.

You have every option on PS3 you need. Text chat, voice chat, friends management and other things. A few more options don't make it worth 40 dollars a year. I even think that you can find everything you need alot easier on PS3. It's totaly confusing on 360 and many ppl I talked to said the same thing.

Maybe there are 360 titles you prefer but that doesn't change anything about the flaws I mentioned. When a console has that many negative points and hardware problems it just can't be better.

I don't think this doesn't belong here because he said that he has doubts himself and I want to make sure that he doesn't do a mistake by keeping that console.

Definitely should try the Halo series, it's quite a blast especially online. Forza is fun, so is Mass Effect too.

Off topic : In all honesty everyone on this website should know I sold my Xbox 360 for a PS3 way back to buy LBP. Last month I sold my PS3 again for a Xbox 360. Why? I just feel the PS3s online is lacking so much you can almost say it was poorly designed.

You can argue over and over but anyone that thinks logically understands that the PSN is not up to par with today's technology and just gaming in general. PSN is just not as social friendly as the Xbox 360.

A few examples;

-Xbox 360 has voice messaging, private and party chat, both same game and cross game.
-The PS3 does not come with a microphone when bought, the Xbox does.
-The XMB for the Xbox 360 is much more friendly then the PS3s ( One could argue this comes down to personal taste but in the end the Xbox 360 has twice as many arcade games, demos, movies.
-Netflix, which is awesome by the way.

Now I'm not trying to start a flame war or anything but I have tried both consoles and I must say the Xbox 360 is so much more lively and fun online compared to the PS3. This is mainly Sony's fault seeing as they don't listen to the community as much but anyways.

Just my two cents.

The Xbox 360 is packaged with a hard drive so I have no idea what your talking about.

And guys seriously, 40 dollars a year is NOTHING, that comes down to $3.33 a month, lay off one meal from Mcdonalds and BAM, that month is paid off. Lol.

I have and love both consoles, but the 360's definitely been made on the cheap side. The amount of fan and drive noise in comparison to the PS3 is absolutely horrendous.

I'm also on my 5th 360 now, (Had my PS3 since launch!) most of which died before the E74 extension on warranty, so I've wasted a hell of a lot of money on replacements. Doubtful I'll bother with another one if this one goes, but it'll still be a sad day.

To be fair, a full Gran Turismo game hasn't been released on a Playstation console for around 5 years. GT5 Prologue is exactly what it means - a prologue to Gran Turismo 5.

Oh, really? I heard it wasn't. I do have a 360, but it's my dad's, he got it out of the box, and stuff, I heard the hard drive is sold separately, my bad.

True, but what's cheaper, ?40 or ?0? It's an extra ?40 for something that is slightly better, I rarely ever have lag on PS3 anyway...

These conversations are funny. Everyone picks up on tiny little almost non-existent things that make the "big differences" between the two consoles, whilst carefully glossing over any minor disadvantage that their console of choice, not to mention that every single one of the pros / cons that generally get pushed are purely down to personal preference. Not to mention the ultimate question of "why the hell does it matter in the first place?"

Anyways, the XBox sucks because the controller is all weird and the D-pad is wrong, not to mention < insert other mindless fanboyish comments >

It makes complete sense if you have any sense of humour.

Anyway... Let's compile a list of pros and cons of xbox360 and ps3 that are not soley based on opinion so we can tell which on eis better.

This isn't one because it is opinion, but don't you love blu-ray? One disc per game for a start.

In your opinion.
It has nothing to do with opinion because it's fact that you have to spend money on all those thing which make a 360 more expensive then the PS3.

I don't understand why we have to discuss this anyway. The price and the hardware of the PS3 are better and that's a fact. You get a Blue-Ray player, free online gaming, more old and famous games series, a hard drive, rarely any technical problems, it's not overheating, it's not loud and so on. A few functions less don't make a console worse so that's no argument and maybe the 360 fanboys should start to ask themselfs why the PS3 comes nearer the 360 sales figures every day. The only two reasons the 360 got more sales was because they threw their console earlier on the market and because the PS3 wasn't as cheap as the 360 but now there is the slim PS3 and it's only a matter of time till the 360 is on the third place.

We have to discuss this because YOU began a discussion about it, don't try and make it like i came in and made a post completely unrelated to the topic of the thread, ie WHICH GAMES SHOULD I TRY. The price of the PS3 is not better, especially if you have no interest in playing online. The hardware isn't that much better, xbox's have a history of breaking a lot, however far less are doing now, it was one major problem which was changed, and no there are way less RRoD failures. Speaking of which, hows that yellow light of death crap going?

Anyone who plays games online only will gravitate to xbox, regardless of what you think, because XBL is better. That is a fact. Everyone who isn't a complete fanboy knows that, as whaaale has shown. And for people who want to play online, ?3 a month is nothing for a better service. Look at WoW, that is subscription based, for ONE game, as are many PC games. The money amounts to nothing.

I have both. The PS3 is far superior to the XBox 360 for the following reasons:

1. The XBox 360 uses 5 1/4" floppy drives. For goodness sake, this is OLD technology. I spend an enormous amount of time fishing through tons of floppy disks to find the game I want to play. Whereas PS3 has a hard drive!

2. The PS3 plugs into the TV via an HDMI or Component Cable. I had to get a VHF converter plug so I could plug my XBox 360 into my TV.... and even then, it doesn't even DISPLAY IN COLOR! The PS3, however, can not only display in color.... but works in Hi-Def 2060P!

3. My PS3 plugs into the wall and functions off of normal electricity.... whereas my XBox 360 came with a treadmill for generating the eletricity.

4. The PS3 controllers are far superior - they even have buttons, analog sticks, and rumble! The XBox 360 is a simple Pong-paddle with a single button.... how am I supposed to play a decent game with that?????

5. The PS3 has wireless and connects to the internet.... and will let me chat with people via a keyboard or a headset. The XBox 360, on the other hand, came with 2 styrofoam cups connected via a string for chatting..... FAR inferior!

See, this is exactly what I was talking about on the previous page - you mention all the downsides of the xbox, but none of the ups. Yes, it's treadmill powered, but it does come packaged with a cute little hamster to make it work. PS3 doesn't come with a furry friend now, does it?

Is that the one that's supposed to be a bit like KOTOR? If so, then is it actually as good as KOTOR?

I've already completed that one, earned all the trophies and discovered all the secrets.

From what i've seen of my bros playing it, yeah, it is. Except for the fighting looks a little different.

Dragon Age is also like KOTOR.

You could get.... Idunno, Halo? Left 4 Dead if you're into zombie games?

No Microsoft charge you an extra ?40 a year for that privilege

I do prefer Live, and gladly pay the money, its a much better service and worth the pittance it costs a month.

I love fanboy wars btw Reminds me of the spectrum/commodore, sega/nintendo wars years ago, you will find you don't really care when you grow up.

You don't know how stupid that sounds...

I think anyone who says XBL is better is simply stupid, a fanboy or arrogant.

The truth is, it's a matter of opinion, personally I think there's no reason to pay ?40 a year, I hardly get lag on PS3, so why should I pay more so I get slightly less lag?

The main problem with the X-Box is neither the hardware nor the software. The problem is that it feels dirty. It's kinda like that flirty, promiscuous girl who frequents the bar. Well sure, she may look real hot through all the smoke and liquor fumes, but you'll be peeing blood by morning if you go there tonight. See, when I look at X-Box games in the shop I get that same paranoid, self-concious feeling that I get when I'm browsing a newsagent's top shelf for por...
