The Camera with Multiplayer

Archive: 25 posts

A few of my friends wish that LBP 2 's camera, in multiplayer, would have individual angles for each player, such as in Create Mode currently. No dying off the screen anymore.

I myself think it would ruin a big part of the LBP's community feeling. It would cause the following situation:

Take player A, being him (hi!), and player B, who looks like this (hi to you too!) who are playing a level, a kaskaroto level for example. Now, because both players have their own camera, they can advance or lag behind without worrying of the others. is a worse player than , meaning that is a hundred Big Grid squares away, while is getting bored at the scoreboard.

In my opinion, that would completely ruin the "having fun with my group here" feeling of LBP, when players are scrambled around the map. And what would the poor Checkpoints think?
Tell me what you think. I'm against (and so is ) the idea, if you didn't get it from the depths of this Wall of Text.

I can't see them abolishing the system completely because as you say that could lead to people staying behind on purpose and forcing people to wait or quit. Having thought about the trailer there was parts I thought that has to be individual cams. But now I'm not so sure. Hopefully they increase the distance sacks can travel apart but after x distance from main group sacks die. Now the issue of racers comes to mind, how can you have a good racer if everyone has to stay in tight range? That wouldn't work either. My thoughts are that you might be able to activate a cam by switch. If everyone is controlling a sackbot, each sackbot could have a cam attached so they have their own camera so to speak. But still they will die if they go too far, ideally we could specify this, if someone does go for a full out racer they might want to disable it completely. We'll just have to wait and see the new camera tool in more detail. I hope we just have options to tweak this because it would open up more possibilities.

Further thought you HAVE to be able to activate a cam by switch! Otherwise how would you trigger a cut scene? Right I see yes you could just have a trigger radius on the camera but how awkward would that be if you wanted to show off areas further off and such. Surely it will be able to have a switch plugged into it like magic mouths, mm yes, yes it must!

Ok another thought! There is that remote control option in sackbots which is still a bit ? on how it works, but if it does what it says on the tin sackbots can be controller remotely? If so then technically you could have sackbots off screen with a cutscene camera and then have all the regular sacks next to each other where the screen would normally be hence they don't die. But you are forced to look where the camera is so it looks like the normal one. There is still a lot of ?s but I think there is quite a few ways of doing it with a proper camera system, and given some of the screen shots it seems the thing is very flexible. Darn it, these sackbots + camera sound soo handy! can't wait to find out more on them soon.

Yeah, but the creator should be able to choose how the camera work: like if every player has its own screen or all have the same, for example if you want to make a multiplayer shooting game deathmatch the player wouldn't know where the other players are and can surprise them from behind, etc..

PS: wow so much ideas... this just made me remember how much i want LBP right now!!!

If every player would have their own "camera view", it would mess up the level. Some of the players maybe miss cut scenes, if they going another way.
It's still a good idea.

They should make the camera pan out when players are spread apart. But not too far so that they look like ants.2010-05-20 20:03:00

Personaly just have it optional or have it where when you are all together its the regular camera but when you get far away. it set to your own cam.

and if they ware to far they can just pop them self's :-P

BUT having separate cams as optional would be good. if your making a regular level. use regular camera.

if you are making a big them park it be good to have separate cams and just meet up somewhere.

separate cams are a must for racing though.

I think that the function of the camera in LBP2 will be decided by the level creator. You could choose the camera to function like the one in LBP1 where all the players have to stay in the same general area, or you could switch it so everyone has their own camera or some other option I haven't thought of.

Since LBP2 is about making new genres, it's a bit strange Mm hasn't said anything about this as competitive multiplayer experience like shooters would require everyone to have their own camera and spawn area.

I actually really hate the shared camera. I'll spend days working on a scene in a levels, only to find out half my logic's in view when I test it with two players. I should be able to decide how much of the screen can be seen.2010-05-21 20:52:00

I agree - or worse, you have 3/4 players. It's a big hassle. I'm very specific with my camera views and how/what I want the player to see - only to have it disabled.

I created competitive races - basically, the player left behind off screen should die - but sometimes, the camera follows the wrong player and the person that moves ahead goes off screen and has to slow down or dies.

I would love the option to enable individual cams. <3

Pan out further. With maybe arrows with an icon of your sackboy above it to indicate where you are.

I don't want it to pan out further - it reveals things above and below that aren't supposed to be (like the basement below, or some contraption above that hasn't lowered).

I'm sure you'll say, "then hide them" - but I shouldn't have too, that's what the camera's are for (especially, the locked camera).

Oh well.

yes because you expect the players you join in with to carry a bluetooth headset....or even listen to you when they're busy trying to enjoy the level........pls go away

Not meant to be bad, but shadowcrazy seems a bit egocentric. A bit. Choose your friends carefully to reduce anger caused by others not listening to you when trying to co-op. What a sentence. 2010-05-24 17:42:00

i think everyone should hve their own camera because i think it would make the game better bcause then you'd only see what the creator wanted you to see. the only downside to it would be if some silly dude doesnt co-operate and goes the wrong way. but then you could just kick them.2010-05-25 16:58:00
