The Turbo! Pack: Likes and Dislikes

Archive: 45 posts

Hey everyone-

I finished playing through the uber-excellent Turbo! Pack last night, and I am supremely impressed with this DLC. As with anything of a scale this epic, there were parts I loved and parts that annoyed the heck out of me. My single favorite part of the whole pack is probably the race track in Short Circuit, but I thought that platforming through the inside of a working engine was awesomely ingenious. The thing that annoyed me the most is probably trying to pick up the sixer with the jet.

So, what are your likes and dislikes? It could be anything from your favorite / least favorite vehicle, the level you liked the best, the challenge you hated the most, whatever.

My Likes:
The Music in the Construction level.
The new objects are frequently AWESOME!
The whole idea from starting with cars to tanks.
The story is actually interesting.
The new materials are VERY USEFUL
The Short Circuit is Ideally Fun

My Dislikes:
You! I mean.. I mean.. the levels.
Unstable environment in the Monster Truck Section
I think in Tanks A lot, when you get far and die you respawn far back.

Other than that, THIS PACK WAS PACKED!!!

My Likes:
-The new materials & stickers are awesome
-The levels are very long!
-Most of the vehicles are fun to use (my favourite is the tank)
-There are many interesting ideas that might give us plenty of amazing levels in the future
-The story is great
-Overall, this pack feels more complete than some areas of the Story Mode (like the boring Australia)

My Dislikes:
-Some parts are too hard or random, you die a lot. I can't see myself acing some of the levels because there are too many sections where I might die easily
-The pacing of the 5 main levels is rather slow, which is ironic since the title of the pack is "Turbo!"
-Except for the pogo level, I don't think they're very replayable

My Dislikes:
You! I mean.. I mean.. the levels.Heh, I see what you did there.

I also have to say that I also really like the overall scale of this pack. The amount of materials, stickers, etc., you get is huge compared to the relatively small price tag.

Ha, tell that to my PSP. Likely it will be seeing every level over and over until they're all 100% and aced.

+ The Price
+ Materials, Stickers and some of the bits n bobs (Pogo Stick, generic objects & wheels)
+ Level design isn't too similiar to the story mode
+ The Bridge Builder is phenomenal

- Vehicle Parts are pretty much useless, especially when the complete vehicles are in there too. Kinda feels like they're in there to bulk up the numbers. Mind you, I've not found everything yet...
- Very hard!
- It's possible to get some of the vehicles stuck, forcing a level restart (I'm looking at you, Bridge Builder!)
-The level where you have to repair the road is a blatant rip-off of my LittleBigAvatar level (haha only kidding... or am I? )

Overall though the pack is very much full of win

edit:

Another dislike - I suspect some or all of these levels have been constructed using something other than the PSP Create Mode. If so, that's cheating!

The sheer amount of content
The vehicles are nice looking
Some 3D objects
Great materials
Most levels are not too hard, but not too easy
Wicked music
An extra background (that I probably will never use)
Some of the sounds could be useful
THE POGOSTICK!!!!!!!!!!!!?!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dislikes:

That @&$! Monster truck!!!
Plane feels clunky
And that's it for me!

I've loved this pack, and I think Cambidge did quite well, because it's like impossible to please everyone.

Overall I thought the pack was pretty ace. My principal interest has been the vehicles and their handling. The submarine is really excellent and handles just right. The plane was absolutely dreadful. The cockpit is so small it's basically pot luck which switch you grab. I cannot see that I'm ever going to ace that level.2010-05-20 15:21:00

- Vehicle Parts are pretty much useless, especially when the complete vehicles are in there too. Kinda feels like they're in there to bulk up the numbers. Mind you, I've not found everything yet...I can see that with some of the vehicle parts, but others show promise for being fairly useful. The monster truck suspension for example has a great industrial / mechanical look to it. It'll be great for making things like bridge girders, giant robots, half-built Death Stars, etc.

-The level where you have to repair the road is a blatant rip-off of my LittleBigAvatar level (haha only kidding... or am I? )Speaking of rip-offs, they also totally copied my minisub from LittleBigOctober! Ok, well not really... My sub has a different design and control scheme, but the depth charge warning sound is EXACTLY THE SAME!

Really? It's strange, this is the only pack of levels I've got a 100% on. The other Curators are at 98% and 97%.

Also, New Dislike:
-Causes some people *cough*cory*cough* to become whiny and annoying crybabies.

BTW many peoples said that plane control is very bad. I don't think so. when I played it I died only once because I didn't know about second door in sluice. If you fly with little velocity and do all carefully, then plane fly almost perfect. For me control of subs and plane madded identical fine. I don't think that someone will create free flying machine with better control part. If you still think that plane control madded very bad - check SHADE_SEEKER's level "TOAD IN THE HOLE" and it sub remote control - it cracked my brain and fingers to do right things on it. But I finished this level twice and found it very good madded.

It is my imho.

And I loved ending part of last level from this pack. Very good idea. My only comment is that this pack with its war parts looks a little martial and strange as against with all others original and DLC story level on psp and PS3.

P.S. And twist gear with tank shooting looks very similar with many PS3 levels where we use paintanator to move some level part.

Hmmm, I have a flying machine in progress right now that I believe has much more reliable and intuitive controls. It doesn't hover in one place without a little throttle management, but it only has ONE control switch and is quite fast and manouvreable.

Ok, I've published it as "Vehicle Demo: Barrel Rocket"

It's a completely different kind of flying machine from the plane in Turbo! and in once sense it is a little less 'stable' (thought basically impossible to tip over) but I think it does have a more active, engaging control style.

This pack is EPIC!!!!!!! I liked that there were tons of objects and that in some of the levels the scenery was tilted, which made it look cartoony. I'm so glad that they they actually gave us a good gear rather than having to make our own. The levels are really addicting and I've been stuck to my psp for the past few days, completeing and acing every one of them. Sometimes it felt as if they were just trying to throw away prize bubbles which was annoying as I like a little challenge. My favourite level would probably be Hopping Mad or the second part of sub standard, as The pogo stick is unlimited fun and I love the idea of storming through dolls houses in a toy tank! I didn't like the jet at first as it was hard to get control of, but I got the hang of it eventually. The part when the conker attaches to the plane looks rushed as the bottom piece of the cradle sticks out the side and will not always attach to the plane. The submarine was a little hard to control and it was impossible to go in a straight line, and I bumped numerous times into the roof of the tank. I aced every level eventually, I didn't like acing Plane stupid and Tanks a lot as they took me ages and were really difficult. The stickers and objects are awesome and will play a big part in my new work in progress, and I have a feeling it will be really good unless my Thermo blows up!2010-05-21 13:39:00

My congratulations, salieri! You created most perfect fly machine in LBP at this moment, that I ever tried! Really, great job. Only one comment - players can fall from your rocket, if they release R during flying left or right.

Can you open the secret - how you did left/right control on one object?

I liked the 1st,minigame and 5th level. My Most favorite moment of the pack was when the tree grow and it was just epic.
The stuff what you get in the pack is good all the musics, objects and the material, but the car engine dont work like in the pack that is only thing what i didint like.
I wanted to do a race level with the car engine, but i will just do normal levels.

It's not the object that makes it stall, it's probably an off screen piston that if you hold the sponge it will contract and if it fully contracts it turns off the wheels momentarily. I don't know how they can get the car to start again, but you could probably work it out with a bit of tinkering in create mode.

Alrighty, I tried to make a post here last night, but my internet died when I posted and I lost all that I had written. The good news is that I had only played through half of the pack then, and now I have played through the whole thing, aced every level, and collected 100% of the items, so I think that I have experienced the pack to its fullest

There was a lot to love about the Turbo Pack. Not only do we get all kinds of awesome stickers and materials, but we also get brand new music! And not just that, but also 6 full levels to play. Having these levels was a real treat. I love being able to play through levels and trying to collect all of the items and ace the level. Sure, trying to ace can make me want to rip my hair out, but it is still satisfying to finally ace it and get those few extra objects/stickers.

So, I was pretty much thrilled with the whole pack. I usually hate vehicles in levels, so I was very surprised to find myself enjoying building bridges to help my tank progress, or making cement, putting it in a cement truck, and transporting the cement to a different location. The vehicles were all just so much fun...

...except for one...

My only gripe with the whole pack was that final level. I just cannot understand how a vehicle like that Harrier could have been included. Even after I really gave it some time to get used to it, I would still find myself flying all over the place. It just irritated the heck out of me. I guess I just feel very strongly that controls should work correctly. I don't mind if they are complex and need explaining, but once I understand them, I want them to work every time, especially if I am using them to navigate through a dangerous obstacle where one wrong move could kill me.

Sadly, that Harrier was just about as undependable as possible. I was starting to think that if the left or right side corresponded to up then it would be a lot easier to fly, because sackboy seemed to have a tendency to gravitate towards those. I figured out that if I jumped and immediately grabbed, then I seemed to grab the ceiling about 90% of the time, but still, there was that 10% of the time where I would end up grabbing the wrong direction. And it gets even worse once you get that WMD!

And the icing on the Harrier Hate Cake was when I got to the part where you dock the plane in the middle of the level, and I went and pressed the button to open up the new section, and the Harrier just stayed where it was and was stuck! I just couldn't figure out what was going on. I eventually realized that the level must be broken and restarted and it worked fine the next time, but I was amazed that the level broke so easily. Maybe I just got very unlucky though.

Ok, so I'll shut up now. I was just a bit disappointed that this amazing pack had to end off with such a finicky vehicle. The pack as a whole was incredible, and I really did have a blast. Big Thanks to Cambridge for bringing us the amazing pack

I've finally aced everything except Plane Stupid... will do that later. Noticed something useful about the plane... instead of jumping to grab the 'up' switch, just hold up on the analog stick and press R... works more reliably than jumping in my opinion.2010-05-22 14:32:00

Some levels were pretty choppy. They weren't boring, but they weren't fun either.

I don't know why people hate the Harrier Plane. The controls are pretty easy, if you know what you're doing. My advise is don't freak out when you're trying to manuever it. The easiest way is to calmly hold the analog stick in whatever direction you want to fly ( up, down, left, right) and hold "R". That is the most easiest way to fly this plane smoothly. I never even thought of the plane controls as hard or even tricky.

Level acing? Still pretty easy. I had a lot of trouble acing some of the original story mode levels. My advise for acing is to take your time, don't rush, and play the level at least more than twice.

Collecting all items was tricky. But not at all hard. They just put it out for you. The items are either right there in front of you, hiding behind something, or you have to activate something to get it. BTW getting 100% and Acing all the levels takes time, plus you have to play them more than two times. Yes more than two times.

Yea, some of the terrain is too tricky and you can fall off easily.

The key for the pogo level is on the construction level... directly above where you find the forklift truck. Just use the forklift to make a platform so you can get up there and grab it!2010-05-24 14:45:00

Something similar happened to me with the key in Opening Fright in the story mode levels. I have a feeling I restarted the level without realizing it. Just replay the level and if the key is still there then you need grab it again.2010-05-24 22:13:00
