Lights in LBP2

Archive: 15 posts

I think we need a proper red light this time.
And the lights (L.E.D's,Spotlights ECT.) Should be in the tools bag not the goodie bag.

I agree. It's worked fine to have the lights hearted but they should be in the tool bag.2010-05-18 17:31:00

I like the idea of them in the tool bag as well.

I'd love to see the ability to make neon as well. Almost like a material but a scultpable light bar that you could bend to any shape you want. It's a long shot but it would be a very versatile tool I think.

I'd also like to see more color variation/control without having to adjust the global lighting to get the lights to change lightness or darkness of color.

And also the Shadow and Foggy settings did exatcly the same thing really.
And Neon would be awsome.

Ahh Morgana, how did I know I'd find you here?

I'd love to see a color wheel for picking our color. Maybe dynamic coloring? (Red to blue fade in the same LED/spotlight)

Also, I'd love some 3x3 / 5x5 / 9x9 / 10x10 LED panels, as the molecules are getting into their tower's ceiling... We wants it too! http://www.mediamolecule.com/lab/article/tetris_on_the_ceiling_chapter_1/2010-05-18 18:56:00

I'd like to see a few things with lights:

- parallel beam projectors. Sometimes you just want a straight beam of light without any spread, and without having to make the throw so long that it spills into other parts of the level.
- some sort of material that is opaque to light, both for creating shadow effects and quarantining lit areas from each other
- colour changing as an option, both fades from X to Y and X through A B C to Y
- Front-aimed spotlights, as if they are mounted where the player is sitting
- angle radius for LEDs (same as in magnetic key sensors). This would largely do away with the need for an opaque material
- neon lights as Morgana suggested; neon has a very specific light quality that could do very cool things in levels
- Ultraviolet lights (along with UV-reactive stickers, or perhaps just an overlay sticker or tweakable option on stickers/decorations/materials). This would open up a pretty incredible world of lighting and surprise visual options.
- tweaking of light shapes to fit better in the grid without fiddly resizing
- lights (esp spotlight) that can go across all three thick layers

Thanks

I would also suggest a colour wheel, but I can see why they wouldn't; MM chose a limited palette so that people could quickly and easily put levels together that will all flow together colour-wise. (Me, I just use white. So much easier... )

I think we're getting a new material that is neon. I mean, there is a theme called Neon Propaganda, chances are we'll be seeing some. xD Here's the pics to support the "neon material".

Notice the outlines of the two people are a blue neon?

I think the tiles that are lit up are the neon material.

I'd love to see that color wheel option. Also, if possible, I'd like to save certain colors that we've chosen from the color wheel so that we can easily come back to them without having to search. xD And roux, all of your ideas are wondeful. ;D I especially like the angle adjustment one, as I know how annoying it is when certain lights spill into other parts of the level when you don't want them to. Looks like some sort of glowy material, yeah. Though the bars just look like the VR material from MGS. And you could get almost the same effect with careful stickering and light placement.2010-05-18 21:11:00

Well it looks like a material that "glows" in the sense that it lights up, but not in the sense that it cast out light onto other objects. So for neon signs etc you would probably want additional lighting assisting the material.

Of course it's still pretty cool, and superior to what we have available now. Especially if you can switch control it

I think your neon material wish is coming true. In one of the trailers(the Qore one or something) there's a tiny clip of the Designer Organic levels, and there's this floating purple thingy that looks like it's made of a neon material(not the one which only has a neon outline)

No need to worry about Lights in LBP2, cause I mean c'mon, they totally revamped the whole lighting and graphics of the game, so really you can expect LOTS more of content for those creators who like EXTREME detail.2010-05-18 22:02:00

Screens of neon material. Presumably it's tweakable because the neon dancefloor in the dancing scene doesn't glow as much.
