Sending Out Teh Guides?
Archive: 12 posts
If anyone here happens to have played NSMBW (New Super Mario Bros. Wii), you probably know about the Super Guide feature that helps a player through a level if they get stuck a few times. Well, I think this could be implemented through sackbots. Their could be a button of some sort before the level actually begins, and if you press it, it sends out a sackbot to show you how to go through the level (Without revealing secret areas obviously). It also won't continue moving if you're not in it's range. It might be hard to program the sackbot to go through-out the entire level, but it's worth a shot. (It could be more of a relay type thing, hit a button and sack-bots drop near the checkpoints in your level and help guide you through it's specific section.) | 2010-05-18 11:58:00 Author: Prince Pixelton Posts: 286 |
I would think it's doable. Maybe do it so the sackbot shows you the way inbetween two checkpoints. In which case you'd just need someone to record the movements, assign them to a sackbot and then whenever a player gets stuck, turn on the sackbot (possibily through an emiter) and watch him go. The difficulty would arise is there's only a 1 shot thing. I.e something collapses as you go over it the first time, like the bridge in the first level of The Gardens. | 2010-05-18 12:10:00 Author: Mkwone Posts: 104 |
Another idea: if you're making a really complex puzzle room or something, you can put a button in the room that, when pressed, will activate a cutscene that demonstrates how to complete the puzzle. | 2010-05-19 00:18:00 Author: Sack-Jake Posts: 1153 |
Simple enough, its just programming a Sackbot (or sackbots, depending how long the move cycle lasts for) to run through the main path of the level. | 2010-05-19 16:11:00 Author: Matimoo Posts: 1027 |
Or, record yourself doing a certain part of the level, then put a help button or something that when pressed plays that recording. | 2010-05-19 16:37:00 Author: Unknown User |
Yea, I know that, but I'm just wandering about how you can record the sackbot's movements. If you can control it the way I'm thinking, then this will be completely possible. | 2010-05-20 01:45:00 Author: Prince Pixelton Posts: 286 |
You can record every single thing a Sackbot does. Recording sackbot guides might work for extremely basic levels, but if you've got complicated logic or timed platforming it might be hard to accurately program the Sackbot. It would just be easier to make a cutscene I think. | 2010-05-20 01:55:00 Author: Sack-Jake Posts: 1153 |
If anyone here happens to have played NSMBW never played an acronym before | 2010-05-20 04:34:00 Author: Shadowcrazy Posts: 3365 |
If anyone here happens to have played NSMBW never played an acronym before lol I was actually wondering what the game was too Seriously, I don't like it when people use big acronyms and assume everyone knows exactly what they're talking about, no offense Prince Pixelton, but could you please say the actual title of the game you're referring to because, to be honest, I really haven't a clue as to what game you're talking about Now, in regards to the actual topic, I think it would be fairly easy to create this feature if it was a video recording that you could watch in the level at the push of a button, but if you had to program a sackbot to play an entire level, I think there would definitely be some challenge in that because of the variables of certain obstacles So yeah, cool idea and I think it would be really helpful to see advice on how to get past some obstacles | 2010-05-21 06:37:00 Author: Fancy_Zombie Posts: 226 |
Well, I just thought people who HAVE played the game would known what the acronym was, so if you haven't played the game, then the acronym wouldn't even be needed even if it was written out. Editing first post... (I bet you haven't played a NAME either, huh smart stuff?) | 2010-05-21 11:54:00 Author: Prince Pixelton Posts: 286 |
never played an acronym before You should probably take the acronyms out of your signature then, people might get extremely confused. And what's up with this website name? LBPC. No one's gonna know what that is. | 2010-05-21 21:41:00 Author: Sack-Jake Posts: 1153 |
Watch out Sack-Jake. You have an acronym in YOUR signature as well. The police are on to you. | 2010-05-22 01:09:00 Author: Prince Pixelton Posts: 286 |
