The Cutout Collection [UPDATE]

Archive: 27 posts

http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/SR20DETDOG/CutoutCollection.jpg

While working on my lbw5 level making some cutouts of sackboys I realised that although not very hard it's a very tedious and not a very fun process. This led me to the idea that wouldn't it be great if you could go somewhere and pick up a couple of cut outs. So I'm considering the idea of making a level were users can browse a variety of cut outs, pick the ones they want and be on their merry way. I'm sure lot's of you have at least a couple of cut outs that could be added.

So what do you guys think?

Cheers

UPDATE
As is pretty obvious I havent contacted anyone for their cutouts yet. I said I would start this weekend that has just past but due to real life circumstances and working on my LBW5 level I haven't had the time. It will, however, definitely be up between now and the end of he month.

That's a very good idea. I've got 3 or 4 I could send to you, and I agree, it's not a very fun process...

Plus this gives the added bonus of if everyone at LBPC was to invest in this, then they might eventually see their own sacky cut out in other peoples levels

Thanks Asbestos, I'm glad you like my idea. I'll try to pick those up by the weekend. I'll create the level then too.

I never thought of that, it would be kind of cool to see your own sackboy or sackgirl as part of someone's level.

Nice idea. I wouldn't do too many though incase we get the sticker cutout tool in LBP2. Probably not but if we did it would make it a whole lot easier.

There are a few levels out there with various cutouts but I don't know if they're shareable. If not forget them.

I have lots of cutouts I've made previously if you want them. I have one of my character, mrsvista and Icemaiden and also I've got all the character cutouts from the POTC pack. Have a few scenic ones too, trees and stuff.

Oh I almost forgot, I have quite a few miscellaneous silhouettes too which I made ages ago with a view to doing a silhouette level but I never did one becasue I saw there was a silhouette level out there already. There are a few characters, garden objects and animals.

Yeah, I'm expecting LBP2 to pretty much kill off this idea but it's still a fair while untill it comes out so untill then.

Anyway, thanks for the support. Like I said to Asbestos I'll try to get them as soon as I can. The silhouettes, scenic and other cutouts will be great too.

Thank you

I hope they do, it's seems to be getting good support so far. All I need is some free time to get things rolling.

Do you have to be added on a friends list to send LBP objects to someone?2010-05-18 20:46:00

Thanks Rhys, that'll great.
I don't know what happened with these coloured stickers but it doesn't sound good.

As Alec said, you do need to, as far as I know. I was thinking the easiest way would be to add me send the objects and then I'll just delete you again. Unless anyone knows of an easier way.

the only reason i would say this isnt a good idea, would be that people would steal them, claim them as their own, or something of the like. if it were locked to all who havent asked for a key, this would greatly increase its potential for use in GOOD QUALITY levels. once a key is implemented, i would be glad to send some very detailed cutouts.2010-05-24 00:35:00

Good point you have there Jack.
Just one question, how do people actually get the keys? (I've never done anything like this before)
Thanks for offering your cutouts too

I wouldn't bother with keys because of the key bug. They don't usually work for me at all.

Probably better to put a combination lock door or block of some kind at the start of the level and give people the code or custom sticker of some kind.

By the way I found some levels with loads of cutouts in the other day but they aren't shareable. You might want to take a look at them though as they've been done pretty well from what I saw. There are 4 levels but I haven't played them all. They were called "My Big Fat Sloppy Yard Sale of Cutout Stickers" by 'nikki5654'.

With these non shareable cut-outs, embed the prize in a different material, then delete the prize. You're left a piece of material with a shape of the prize cut into it (Call it piece A).

Then place a different material (Call it piece B), Copy piece A and embed it in piece B.
Delete piece A, and now you are left with the shape of the prize that is now shareable and editable.

NB. The maker of the prize might not want you to do this though...

I haven't done cut-outs in a dogs age. I had a level where people would request a cut-out, send me a photo and I'd cut it out. I think I have around 45-60 cut-outs laying around. I believe I left them shareable but it's been so long since I last played it. Just check @MH4wheel for my gallery level and take what ya want.

And yes, with at least 40 cut-outs under my belt...it's very friggen tedious! Especially if the sticker slides out of place on you.

EDIT: I just checked, I have 49 in the gallery and 13 more laying around my moon.

This would be extremely useful for people who didn't have that much time and don't want to make such an effort to add a probably small visual detail. 2010-05-31 01:41:00

Thanks mate I'm still trying to find the time to actually start this but i'll be sure to let you know when I do.

I see that as all the more reason for doing this. This will give creators more time to actually create instead of spending however long to make what is essentially a fairly small yet quite important detail.

Wow thanks mate, this will really get things moving, once I actually start

That's my thinking. They're not exactly fun to make and really the sole reason, I hope, that we create is to have fun. This will make use of all the effort people have already put into making cutouts and re-use it.

Something can be quickly finished yet still be tedious. I think I spent roughly 20min making 4 cutouts, including making the costumes, taking the photos/getting the right pose and actually cutting them out. By the time I got to the fourth though I was so sick of using the corner editor I stopped a 4, I was originally planning on about 6 or 7.
